I knew a little girl who had a bunny rabbit. She was so delighted with it and so afraid of losing it that taking it home in the car she squeezed it to death. Lots of parents do that to their children, and to eachother. They hold on too hard, and so take the life out of this transient, beautifully fragile thing that life is. To have life and its pleasure you must, at the same time, let go of it. Then you can feel perfectly free to have that pleasure in the most gutsy, rollicking, earthshaking, lip-licking way, with one’s whole being taken over by a kind of undulative, convulsive ripple, like the very pulse of life itself. But, this can happen only if you let go, if you are willing to be abandoned.
Alan Watts
“Life is a dance of energy.” — Alan Watts
Enlightenment or awakening is not the creation of a new state of affairs but the recognition of what already is.
Alan Watts (via aspiritualwarrior)
What if you could look into the future and see what your life amounted to? That is, all of the accomplishments you made, all of the life you lived by the time you died. I’ve spent a great deal of my life wishing, if only that were so. But what if you could stop wondering and realize that you already know? What if you could frame it in this way: my soul is the architect of my existence. I think what would happen here is what happened for me: I realized that I already had all of the tools I needed. You see, I had the pleasure of sitting down with my neighbor, who has an undeniable gift, last night for hours and hours. And though she knew nothing of my life’s pursuits to date, she saw in my future what I would consider my wildest dreams of self-actualization. And that’s when it clicked: I constructed my own life prior to my physical existence in this realm so that I could see my strongest gifts early on and continue to refine and enhance them. I threw in a lot of suffering from inexplicably young ages to help me cling onto these gifts, and I created a path that led me exactly where I sit now. I have had this feeling that the ultimate goal in this lifetime is to create something from your soul that lives on past your presence on this earth, a work that people will continue to learn from or that will change people’s perceptions of reality. I have believed this because I know that the greatest minds, for example, Alan Watts and Albert Einstein, have not come back into existence in this realm. They have moved onward, because they found enlightenment, which is obvious in the ways that their contributions continue to impact our world. It brings me an indescribable peace to realize that this is what I am on a path to achieve. If not in this lifetime, maybe in the next, but I no longer see barriers that serve as limits to what I might accomplish. This is where I will begin my endeavors: to help people live in a higher consciousness by intertwining concepts of spirituality and psychology. Amazingly enough, this is exactly what my gifted neighbor told me I would do, that I would produce a piece of writing explaining spirituality at the psychological level, and that this would have immense impact after my time on this earth. This marks a start of the journey I will take for the rest of my life. Maybe, if people can begin to look at the inexplicable gifts and passions they already possess early in life, they will resist setting limits on what they might achieve in this lifetime. Once you stop looking for the path to walk, you will continue walking, and you will already be exactly where you were meant to be. Attempting to control the circumstances around us is our main barrier to realizing this, all of the power we can possess is essentially contingent on our ability to let go. Let go, and what you desire will come to you. It just will.
