Watch Daveed Diggs Sing on Sesame Street

Our winning Easter Bonnet Presentation, sung to the tune of āAlexander Hamilton.ā Proud of our company, who raised an insane $516,029 for BCEFA. And grateful to you, who dropped Hamiltons in our buckets for people who need it to live. Thank you. *greatjob*
I am so happy to be alive right now
I canāt.
I just want to say thank you to Lin-Manuel Miranda
For making 2015 an awesome year. I am so grateful.
Ditto
But someoneās gotta keep the American promiseĀ You simply must meet Thomas. Thomas!

My life is crumbling but hereās some Broadway Trivia:
I was fact-checking something about the original cast of 1776 for a piece Iām working on (barely related), and I saw that the production played the 46th Street Theater. I remembered that the 46th Street Theater is the old name for what is now the Richard Rodgers Theater. The Richard Rodgers Theater is where HAMILTON plays today. The action of HAMILTON only starts in the year 1776, where 1776 the musical starts and ends, and the musical shows many ways that the form has changed and remained basically the same. HAMILTON began previews downtown at the Public Theater 46 years after 1776 ended its Broadway run on 46th St. 46 years BEFORE 1776 closed, a musical about the birth of the country called DEAREST ENEMY closed. DEAREST ENEMY had music by, guess who, RICHARD RODGERS. 1776 shows many ways that the form had changed and stayed basically the same in those 46 years. FORTY-SIX.
None of this means absolutely anything, but I find it beautiful

This is incredibly beautiful. Thank you.

My life has been leading to this beautiful thing. I have reached eternal happiness.Ā
Jefferson: āLife, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.ā We fought for these ideals; we shouldnāt settle for less These are wise words, enterprising men quote āem Donāt act surprised, you guys, cuz I wrote āem Adams: I have more to do than stand here listening to you quote yourself.
The 1776/Hamilton Crossover we all wanted. (via theloversthedreamersandme)
(via Encores! 1776 Looks to Hamilton for a Founding Fathers Revamp)
So the only thing more exciting than Hamilton right now is the prospect of my favorite musical (1776) taking a chapter from Hamiltonās casting....so hereās my impossible dream cast for the Encores production coming up in March.
John Adams: Lin-Manuel Miranda (a little young but I donāt care, heās already proven he can be charismatic and still play āobnoxious and dislikedā)
Abigail Adams: Audra McDonald (because perfect)
Ben Franklin: George Takei (think about how perfect this is... the timbre of his voice even matches Howard da Silvaās....)
Thomas Jefferson: Christopher Jackson (canāt you just hear him sing āMr. Adams leave me aloooooooone!ā)
Martha Jefferson: Phillipa Soo ( again, I can just hear āWhen heaven calls to meeeeeeeeā) Edward Rutledge: Leslie Odom Jr. (Molasses to Rum to Slaves...thatās all Iām gonna say) John Dickinson: Brian Stokes Mitchell (Nobody can touch his poise, Cool Cool Considerate Men? Perfect. Iām thinking Cam from Frasier) Richard Henry Lee: James Monroe Iglehart (First of all I love this man. Second of all he would bring down the house with that song!)
And a whole lot of other amazing men (since this show is all men...unless they started gender bending, which is my ultimate dream for this show...but that would be a whole different post)
Their Favorite Things: Two-Time Tony Winner Nathan Lane Shares His Theatregoing Experiences
He was nonexistent. I wrote it the week we adopted our dog.
Lin-Manuel Miranda on how old his son was when he wrote āDear Theodosiaā
So in my continual quest to find songs to sing to my dog Iāve used this information as inspiration to change āSomeday, someday/ Yeah youāll blow us all awayā to the following:
āSmall dog, small dog/ You are softer than a logā
āSmall dog, small dog/ I can see you through the fogā
āSmall dog, small dog/ You do not come from a bogā
āSmall dog, small dog/ You smell better than a hogā
Note: I wept audibly when I saw Linās face as he sang this song onstage...which I credit to his acting, and his love for his dog (and probably his son too) :)
TUMBLRICO!
I made this for you today. Itās the scene in Hamilton that goes between āDear Theodosiaā and āNon Stop.ā I made a decision not to record this scene on the album, for two reasons 1) It really is more of a scene than a song, the only SCENE in our show, and I think its impact is at its fullest in production form. 2) As someone who grew up ONLY listening to cast albums (we aināt have money for a lot of Broadway shows, like most people) those withheld moments were REVELATIONS to me when I finally experienced them onstage, years later. Hamilton is sung through, and I wanted to have at least ONE revelation in store for you. I stand by the decision, and I think the album is better for it.
I know, I know. āBut what about people who wonāt get the chance to see itā¦ā I know. āAnd Laurens is already so underrepresented in historyā¦ā I KNOW. THATāS WHY HEāS SO PROMINENT IN THE SHOW. So hereās where we meet in the middle. The missing scene is above.Ā Please understand that the reason I left this scene off the album is precisely BECAUSE I value it (and Laurens) so much. Happy #Hamiltunes listening, Tumblrico. This is your extra credit reading. Yr Obd Serv, Lin-Manuel
BAHAHAHAHA
Everything Daveed Diggs does on this album is brilliant...but the āwhatāās are especially satisfying.
