Phil Kessel was traded in 2009, 2 years later the Bruins went on to win the stanley cup. Phil has struggled against his former team. In 21 games played against the bruins he only has 3 goals 8 assists and is a -22. He has to date the worst stats against a former trade for any player in the NHL who has been traded.

Last night Phil unfortunately had to suit up against the Bruins and try and change those tides. The tides never turned for Phil. He was a -1 with 0 points and the leafs blew a 2-0 lead to loose in a shootout 3-2.

With that win the Bruins are now 4th in the Eastern Conference tied with the Montreal Canadiens and only 5 points back of the 1st place Pittsburg Penguins. The Bruins lace up at home Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens in what will be a great match up and a match up for 1st in the Northeast Division. Bruins Get Ready for Senators

The Bruins had a practice skate today at Carleton's University icerink, getting ready for tomorrow's big game against the Ottawa Senators. So far the Bruins have made no trades with the deadline soon approaching the next few weeks should be interesting.

Currently the Bruins are 4 in the Eastern Conference with the Ottawa Senators right behind them in 5 place. According to NHl.com .. 

"the Bruins are in the hunt for the top seed in the Eastern Conference and GM Peter Chiarelli likely doesn't want to tinker too much. However, the Bruins have been included in the Jarome Iginla rumors and could look to acquire the Calgary Flames captain assuming they're amenable to the asking price."

I wonder if mr. Chiarelli has taken a look at my video blog to see what I suggest for Iggy.

The Bruins strap on the pads tomorrow at 7PM for what should be a good game and possibly a first round playoff match-up stay tuned for what looks like a good game

NHL New Alignment

This is the new alignment of the NHL starting October of the 2013-14 season. Keep this in mind when making suggestions for trades based on teams that the Bruins will play next season as well.

I look forward to games against the Red Wings and Tampa Bay Lightning as both teams have star power and pure goal scorers including the likes of Sensation Steven Stamkos, and NHL most skilled player Pavel Datsyuk.

This new alignment I feel will bring more excitement to the Bruins schedule as we now play more skilled all around teams and will have to compete day-in and out to stay atop the Eastern Conference.

Trades for Fire & Ice

Alright Bruin fans and loyal members to my blog I open the discussion to you. As I stated earlier myself and another NHL Blogger Fire & Ice will be having a video conference discussing possible trades we would like to see between the Bruins and the Flames

SO FAR..

I have watched the Flames vigorously over the last two weeks, and with the Bruins slumping to top place teams in the Eastern Conference a trade is highly recommended.. I feel the Bruins could use a solid Offensive Defensemen with some veteran savvy to help young Rookie Dougie Hamilton. 

Jay Bouwmeester may be the solution to this problem. He has one year left in his contract and we can afford him in our salary cap. This year Jay has shown signs of his younger days in the NHL with the Florida Panthers. He has played 700+ games in the NHL and never made the playoffs. Brining him onto the Bruins squad will bring some excitement and offensive scoring from the point which is crucial come playoff time.

Another big guy to pick up could be Captain Jarome Iginla. There has been talk of trading him for draft picks, and although the Bruins don't have many picks to give away we could still be able to give away some picks with some AHL prospects who could help rebuild this Flames team.

Lastly, Matt Stajan is having himself an impressive year and could help our third/fourth line out. With a +22 rating this year on a struggling team it's good signs that these stats would only improve on a successful team such as the Bruins. Stajan could be someone that the Bruins pick up without giving a lot away which could be a great move in the late round of the playoffs.

Who To Give Up

This is where my brain starts to hurt. The easy part is looking at who you want. The hard part is deciding who to give up in the process for these players. A lot of this team is the same team that won the cup two years ago so it becomes hard to makes moves. Players that I feel could be traded and replaced by Flames players would be:

Andrew Ference--> a 2-3 line defensive player who has good starts this year and is not afraid to shut down top line players on the opposing team. He has filed into his role very well for the Bruins and could do the same for the Flames next year in their rebuilding year.

Chris Bourque--> A power forward for the Bruins was sent to the AHL because his role on the team was already occupied and coach Julien didn't want him going into a third line role that wasn't a fit for his style of game. He could be an asset to the Flames 2-3 line next year when they start to rebuild.

Gregory Campbell--> Hardest player to trade as he is a perfect 4th line player with penalty killing specialty. The only reason why I would put him up on the trading block is because he is hurt and will not be able to play the rest of the year.

Thoughts...

Fire & Ice vs Locker Room Talk about the Bruins

The countdown is on....

In T-minus 7 days two famous bloggers are going to collide in an all out video blog discussing their teams play during the season and trades that should be made for better success.

As the NHL is at the mid-way point, April 4 which is the trade deadline is soon Approaching. GM's around the league will be discussing who they need to make a playoff push like the Bruins are doing or who they want to get rid of to rebuild for next year like the flames are doing. As fellow Bruin fans will remember two years ago when the Bruins made trades for Peverley, Kelly, and Campbell it turned out to be a great plan as the Bruins went on to win the cup and those three players were a key role in it.

Fire & Ice is a minor league blogger talking about the Calgary Flames an NHL team who this year should be a minor league team... even then they wouldn't be in first. For those of you bloggers who are dedicated to the Bruins and my blog please stay tuned for a great video.. Please comment on trades if any you feel would be good between the Bruins and Calgary

Big Week for Boston

The Bruins have decided to put Chris Bourque on waivers to hopefully get him back on their Providence AHL team. Chris had played 18 games with the Bruins and put up 1 Goal 3 Assists, 6 Penalty Minutes, and a -6 +/- ratio which was second worst on the team. The Bruins had to put him on waivers because they signed him as a one way player so they were unable to send him back down to their AHL team. Chris must go through a week of being on waivers and no other team to pick him up for the Bruins to be able to claim him back and send him to the AHL.

WHAT HAPPENING THIS WEEK

The Bruins their longest week ahead of them. They play 5 of 7 nights this week with two back to back games as well. They start off tonight playing against the Ottawa Senators in Ottawa. After the game the team will sleep on the plane as they travel to Pittsburgh to play the Pittsburg Penguins Tuesday night. The Bruins will have a day off to relax and get back to Boston where they play the Florida Panthers on Thursday.

Finally the Bruins get a 2-day rest before having to face the Washington Capitals on Saturday and again travelling to Pittsburg to play the Penguins on the Sunday. This will be a true test of the Bruin's endurance, and skill in the lead as they are playing the #2,6,12,15 place team with all of the teams being in their conference.

Currently the Bruins sit in 4 place in the Eastern Conference. They are 3 points out of first place who is currently the MOntreal Canadiens. The Canadiens have played 4 more games than the Bruins. After this weekend the Bruins will be all square on games played and hopefully in first in the Eastern Conference.

Stay tuned for updates throughout the whole week on the Bruins journey to the top of The Conference and the League. Should be a good game tonight, if you can't watch why not read about it on my blog.... i'll see yah shortly as the puck drops at 7 PM tonight!

JUST GOT DONE PUTTING THE BROOM AWAY

As the title states, I was little busy today sweeping my house... The reason I decided to sweep was because the Bruins inspired me through their now 8 game sweep against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Last night, the Maple Leafs travelled to Boston... The only enjoyable thing for the Leafs was the nice scenic route from Toronto to Boston, because on the ice it was a nightmare for them.

It all started with the early fight with Adam McQuaid and Mark Fraser... Look at earlier blog to see the video and make sure to comment on who you thought won the battle. The Bruins used that momentum to take an early 1-0 lead with a minute left in the period scored by Patrice Bergeron.

The second period saw some moments of highlights for the Maple Leafs.  Kadri Rookie sensation and team leading points was able to put one past Khudobin to tie the game at 1-1. Tyler Seguin and Davis Krejci had different plans and both scored to make it 3-1 going into the third period.

The third period was the same as the first two. Toronto was able to put one in the net by McClement to make it 3-2. Although the game was the close it was total domination by the Bruins. With the goalie pulled in a last minute effort to tie the game the Leafs did everything they could but were stopped dead in their tracks when Seguin got his second of the night shooting into an empty net to give the Bruins a 4-2 victory.

The Bruins are now in 4th place in the Eastern Conference. Only a point behind first place and also has 3 games in hand on the First place team the Rival Montreal Canadians. The Bruins are in action again Saturday at home against the Philadelphia Flyers at 1:00 PM. Stay tuned for updates leading up to the game.
