a little backstory first if you care to read, i live in brooklyn with my dog and my boyfriend. one day in november, when i went back to long island (where my parents live) me and my mom went to the mall. i’ve passed by this pet store named “american dog club” in the mall a few times, its been there for a few years. me and my mom went inside the pet store, and we saw the cutest pomeranian!! i knew immediately i wanted to take him home no matter the cost. i played with him for about 20 min, but noticed he seemed a little off. i asked one the employees if he was okay and she told me “yes he’s fine! he’s just a little sleepy” i put down a deposit for him and came back about 5 days later with the rest of the money to come pick him up. he totaled out to about $2000 including the useless supplies (dog food, medicine) they pushed on me. they also told me if i took him to their vet, i would receive free shots for him. upon leaving the mall, i noticed he was acting strange again, he was very limp and seemed sleepy. i tried to brush it away in my mind by telling myself its probably because hes a puppy and he’s sleepy, like the employee said, but i knew deep down that wasn’t it. i have owned a number of dogs in my 21 years of life and have even helped birth puppies and raise them straight out the womb. when i brought him home that night, he ate like he did not eat in several days. i noticed that his stool was straight diarhea and he would even vomit every once and again. i set up an appt with the vet they recommended me right away. i went to the vet, a very short stay but they assured me he was alright and just needed to take the medicine they gave me (which i ended up having to pay for). that was alright though, i would pay anything for him to be better. i gave him the medicine and he became even sicker. i didn’t want to go to that vet ever again, free or not, so i researched a vet who was highly reviewed on yelp and scheduled a visit with her. she was a house call vet so she came to my house. she also noticed he was not doing so well. she recommended we change his food, to see if that helps. he finally got extremely sick about a week ago. our dog (his name was ponta) had gone through the works, from black, liquid stool, to vomiting, regurgitating, seizures, etc. yesterday, the vet came for a follow-up visit, where when she arrived i told her how he’d been extremely sick the whole week. ponta was always a trooper so even though he was sick, he would wag his tail and follow us around, so thats how he was acting when the vet came to our house yesterday as well. she gave us some medicine to start giving him, and we were to pick up some more medicine from her office later in the day. after that our landlord came to our apartment to fix some things. then after he left, i went in the room with ponta and my other dog, bella, to notice ponta laying on his side, extremely limp and panting. i immediately called the vet and asked what i should do, she referred me to an emergency animal hospital near us. i got an uber while my boyfriend readied a bag to put ponta in. when the uber arrived, ponta started whining loudly in pain, there was nothing i could do at that time but cry and just pick him up gently, wrap him in a towel and put him in my bag. we rushed out the door and to the uber, with ponta. i asked the uber guy to rush, if possible. about 10 min into the drive to the hospital, i noticed ponta was not moving anymore and looked in the bag, unwrapped him from the towel, and as blood rushed from out of his nose, i realized he had died. it had only been two months since i bought ponta, but i had to watch him, at 4 months old, die in my arms yesterday. i was so devastated i couldn’t even think or feel anything but sadness, pain and confusion. i screamed and cried all the way to the hospital. we have decided to get him a necropsy to see exactly what caused his death. although i’m not 100% sure yet, i am 90% sure it’s because of that vile establishment i bought him from in the mall. i looked up reviews on yelp on this place, and noticed many people have faced the same trauma we did yesterday. no dog should ever have to go through the excruciating pain ponta felt yesterday. no person should ever have to feel the amount of hurt me and my family are feeling right now. especially while this place is receiving profits! this place buys from puppy mills and keeps the poor things in terrible living conditions! i am in the process of seeking a refund from these people, not even because of the money but because of the principle! i don’t want these people to have my money! they put money first over anything else and couldn’t care less about the puppies well being! this is one of the many places that buy from puppy mills, and i want it shut down! so if you could please sign the petition down below, i’d really appreciate it!
