The redhead who had been speeding down the hall was recognizable to most people around Morgana and was often categorized in one of three ways: know-it-all, hippie and scary…. Usually from people who called her a hippie. Coffee in hand at all times, she always seemed to have a place to go and that wasn’t something people were keen on interrupting however, with a bump to the back, a consequent stumble and steaming coffee spilling onto the concrete – she was. Turning on her heel, Giselle attempted to smother the look of annoyance with the stranger which withered a bit as she recollected her fallen cup and examined her clothing for coffee stains – so far, so gone. “I’m fine. Unfortunately, I wasted money on overpriced coffee for no good reason.” She glanced down at the brown liquid spilled across the floor with a sigh. “Are you lost? I don’t think I’ve seen you before and I’ve seen mostly seen everyone.” Shoving pamphlets in people’s faces has a tendency to cause that.

“Uh -- sorry. Again.” Beck felt a little guilty at seeing the girl’s coffee spill across the pavement, and she began to dig her hands into her pockets to look for some spare change. A few seconds later she’d managed to pull out four dollars, and offered it up to the redhead. “Here. I don’t know how much your coffee was but maybe you can get another one? Or I’ll get you one another time I guess.” She shrugged, rubbing at the side of her face and offering up a smile as if that might help smooth the situation over a little more. The girl didn’t seem to be too mad about the collision and loss of her coffee -- just a little annoyed. She began to shake her head then as the redhead spoke, gesturing in the general direction of the field where the sport events were going on. “No, no, I was just heading over there to see what’s going on. With the sports day and everything. But I am new. I got here at like two in the morning so I’ll probably be lost some time later.” Beck paused, letting her smile grow, and offered a hand out to the girl. “I’m Beck.”

Technically, Dagny fell under faculty, not student, meaning that when it came to the academy’s annual sports day, she wasn’t allowed to take part in any of the races. Having to stand on the sidelines and watch was, for her, more than a little frustrating. Although a lot tamer, it was events like these that really reminded her of home, with all of the cheering and adrenaline. Hollental’s competitions (so to speak) unquestionably held a different air about them to Morgana’s, there was still reservation in people’s excitement here; they didn’t let go as much as Hollental’s people did, but everyone was still having fun, and the energy was near enough the same. It left Dagny itching. She hadn’t sat down since arriving a couple of hours ago, and her pacing back and forth had increased, as had the frown marring her brows deepened further. At least she would get to take part in the later races, wherein she could compete against the staff. 

Perhaps one of the only good things that came from being exempt from the student races was that she got to watch Zoe. Those races had stolen all of Dagny’s attention, enough to get her to forget her annoyance at the day. She’d abruptly stopped her backing and forth-ing when her girlfriend had bent to stretch her hamstrings, and as a result someone hit into the back of her. Dagny was barely moved by it, and probably would have ignored the accidental bump if not for the small flurry of words that followed. Dagny pulled a face, and having rolled her eyes she slowly turned to look behind her, dropping her stare from the unfamiliar woman’s face to her feet, then up to her face again. “Does Dagny look okay?” She gestured with a large hand to the rest of her person, because she clearly wasn’t suffering from the run in. “But uh, maybe look next time. There are some here you do not want to accidentally bump in to.” Giving the stranger another once over, Dagny grunted, then offered a brief smile. “Do not know your face.”

The first thing Beck noticed about the woman she’d bumped into was that she was tall -- the second thing was the muscles, and the third all the scars that littered her body. For a good few seconds her eyes didn’t lift to the face that those features belonged to, and it probably looked a little bit like she was staring at the woman’s breasts (she wasn’t -- maybe only for a second or two). “Uh, Dagny looks... fine.” Beck nodded, eventually looking up at the woman, who she assumed was Dagny. The accent that came out of her served as something of a surprise, and the more Beck looked at her and listened to her talk, the more interested she became in her. “Thanks for the advice. I’ll keep it in mind.” A smile grew across her face then, and she realized she was still stood slightly too close to the blonde and took a step backwards. “Yeah, well, I just got here last night. Literally. About two in the morning or something I arrived.” Beck nodded, rustling around in her pockets then for a packet of cigarettes and a lighter. “I’m Beck. And you’re Dagny, right? You a teacher here or... a mature student?”

So, a human walks into a school for mutants. Sounds like the start of a bad joke. Beck had arrived at Morgana Academy in the middle of the night, after deciding that stopping and staying in any of the dingy motels along the highway wasn’t really worth it, especially when she was so close to her destination. The decision to go to Morgana had been a spur-of-the-moment one that stemmed from a post card she’d received from Alix, and if Beck was honest, her reasons were mostly selfish. For a while she’d felt like she was stagnating. Working the same bar every night, meeting the same kinds of people, going home to the same apartment and doing little with herself until it was time to go to work again. Nothing was fun anymore, and after getting the postcard from her friend, she’d decided a change of scenery was exactly what she needed. 

Her biggest problem had come with figuring out exactly what she’d be able to contribute to the academy. Teaching was off the table, unless learning how to make extra strong cocktails was part of the curriculum, and she was hardly suited for security. In the end she’d put down secretarial work, which thankfully they accepted. She suspected most of her time would be spent sat behind a desk typing things into a computer, or organizing files, or something equally as boring -- but how boring could it really be when mutants were involved?

For the first time in a while Beck had woken up early that morning, oddly eager to see the school and all its inhabitants in daylight. Part of her was even excited to start working, but upon arriving again at the front desk she found there was nothing to be done. It was sports day at Morgana Academy and most people were outside taking part in or watching the activities. The woman behind the desk told her to take the day off and familiarize herself with the academy and get settled in, and return to start work properly the next day. Beck needed no encouragement where taking the day off was concerned, and made her way outside, deciding to watch the day’s events in hopes of seeing something extraordinary. 

Her eyes locked on the field in the distance as she descended the steps from the front door of the academy, and they widened as she spotted someone jump a good forty feet in the air and perform a back flip, to a chorus of loud cheers. She was so busy trying to catch a glimpse of something else happening that she didn’t watch where she was putting her feet, and more or less walked right into the back of someone else. “Jesus -- sorry, sorry, totally wasn’t watching where I was going. Are you okay?”
