Zana Bayne | S/S 2014
When we think of San Francisco the best of the bizarre always comes to mind... in a very good way. Some of our favorite BDSM fashion finds it's way out of this eccentric city. Case and point Zana Bayne, serious leatherworker and designer. The biggest and most bad ass harness fashion on the market and media right now can be accredited to her. She has quite a bit of work out there. Styling celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Madonna and accomplishing writes ups in Rolling Stone, Village Voice and our beloved Bullet Magazine (plus many, many more). This collection draws on the feminine lingerie side of harness wear. Accentuating silhouettes with bold lines and flattering ratios. The merging of sexy delicacy and refined strength. May we also add that her team artists and models also took our breath away in this collection. Take a look at past collections and shop Zana Bayne at her official website linked below.

Iris Van Herpen | Dutch Profiles
Born in The Netherlands fashion designer and "garment sculptor" Iris Van Herpen grew up indulged in the arts and most notably a youth in dance. At this time she claims to have gained an interest in designing clothing. Using unconventional materials and age old techniques to create her free-floating designs that adorn the human figure instead of merely draping it. As an intern for the late and widely admired Alexander McQueen, it goes without saying that Van Herpen developed exceptional tailoring techniques. She has always represented a very strong vision in her work and often collaborates with artists of other disciplines in order to achieve her creative perspective. Since the final product requires so much research and time to produce she argues that other fashion designers find it far too time consuming to develop these new techniques.
"She creates a modern view on Haute Couture that combines fine handwork techniques with futuristic digital technology .Van Herpen forces fashion to the extreme contradiction between beauty and regeneration. It is her unique way to reevaluate reality and to express and underline individuality.
The essence of van Herpen is expressing the character and emotions of a woman and to extend the shape of the feminine body in detail. She mixes craftsmanship- using old and forgotten techniques- with innovation and materials inspired on the world to come."
These patterns have caught some notable attention where mega musicians such as Bjork have adopted her clothing into her routine stage wear. Van Herpen has almost become a uniform for the artist during her tour for her latest album Biophilia. Check out more of Iris van Herpen's work at her website linked below and stay tuned to BTM for more updates on this innovative young designer.

Alexander McQueen | Spring/Summer 2013
Behind the Scenes
THIS SEASON SEES THE RETURN OF A HERITAGE SILHOUETTE. WASP WAISTS AND A CONSTRUCTED HIP EXAGGERATE A FEMININE SILHOUETTE.
Signature tailored jackets are layered over jewelled, moulded resin bustier tops and sheer, mid-calf length honeycomb pencil skirts, or cropped panelled trousers. A play between covering the body and discreetly exposing it is seen throughout as the transparent is juxtaposed with the opaque and garments peel away from necklines and shoulders. Lightness is paramount: intricately woven jacquards, lacquered lace and laser cut patent leather hover over silk organza. Cages, corsets and crinolines in various incarnations are worn as underpinnings or as finished, elaborately embellished pieces in their own right. Every aspect of the foundation garment and the transformation of the body that is a hallmark of the house of Alexander McQueen is explored.
“The collection is a study of femininity. We looked at erotica. Vargas girls, cages, corsets and crinolines and the idealisation of the female form. Nothing is set in a particular period. It’s about sensuality and skin but not nudity. We also wanted to express lightness, for the clothes almost to hover over the women who wear them.” Sarah Burton

Alexander McQueen | Men's Autumn/ Winter 2013
Here at BTM we constantly celebrate our favorite designer Alexander McQueen and the legacy left behind. This presentation of the house of McQueen's Men's A/W 2013 collection is a true horror show. Take a look at the full show viewable here and read on for an in depth analysis of the classic tailoring taken to new levels by creative partner and sucessor to his name, Sarah Burton.

Alexander McQueen's menswear collection for Autumn/Winter 2013/14 takes the classicism of Savile Row and subverts it. A pinstripe three-piece suit has a signature McQueen pagoda shoulder, with a longer jacket to create a new lengthened silhouette. These are matched with low-rise pinstripe trousers that are cropped with a slight kick flare. A cigar shoulder gives an alternate nipped-in jacket shape. White cotton shirts come with pinstriped collars and cuffs, a motif that is repeated with other fabrics from the collection, all of the shirts coming with a longer collar and barbed wire cufflinks. As the collection evolves, single-breasted suits are patchworked from panels of pinstripe and some suits are cut from a cloth specially woven to look like patchwork. A softer shape comes from a kimono-shouldered camel coat, worn over a camel suit with articulated S-cut trousers. Military dress is an important part of Savile Row's history. This ceremonial heritage is represented in red and black paneled frock coats with military buttoning above the waist. Meanwhile a detail of a blown up stained glass church window is used as an all-over suit print, an image which also appears on a long silk dressing-gown. Silk polka dot dressing gowns are worn with velvet tailoring, ushering in the eveningwear section. Velvet tuxedos are cut with a pagoda shoulder, and also come constructed from patchwork panels. Patchworking is taken to its ultimate extent with an intricate multi-patchwork coat constructed to follow the elaborate pattern of a stained glass window made from velvet, satin, grosgrain and jacquards. Throughout the collection, footwear also plays with British traditions. Brogue and Derby detailing is matched on a leather shoe and cut like a slip-on loafer, whilst a Chelsea boot has been cut short to create a new slip-on shape, with a strap detail at the ankle. "It feels right to focus on Savile Row for our first ever Alexander McQueen menswear show in London," says Sarah Burton, creative director of Alexander McQueen, "especially since we opened our menswear store on Savile Row at the end of last year. This collection is full of tailoring traditions and subtle references to English style''.
