Drawing a bike the hard way. If it was a one-off, no-movement shot, I mighta used a sketch-up model. The temptation was very real. But, I’m gonna need to cartoon this bad-boy for a comic, so I’m making myself learn the thing cold. There’s a bunch of ways that parts were parallel, or intersections lined up with others...I wouldn’t have learnt otherwise. After a couple of more times this way, I hope to be able to freely doodle a convincing bike, then off to the races. Still using the ellipse tool in PS to finish pencils on the wheels. Its a stationary object, and I’m not totally crazy. https://ift.tt/33sJQFt

Walt Simonson is known for his big, bombastic, epic pages in books like Thor and Orion, but he’s just as good at the quieter moments — like this 1982 promo image.
