Jadesie Reflection and Afterthoughts
I’m probably starting to sound like a broken record but I think my project is bad. The story is bland, it doesn’t have enough choices and visually it is alright except most of the visual appeal is caused by photos borrowed from external sources and other people. If it winds up failing I will not be surprised. At the very beginning it was an idea that was strongly recommended by Anna and at that point it sounded alright, not quite as interesting as my other 2 project ideas of Overwatch themes and culture or some Video Game connections but still at least it will heed some results before quarter way through the semester which the same cannot be said for some of my earlier projects. The problem however is that because it wasn’t an original idea from me I wasn’t exactly mentally prepared for it but Anna was adamant. I write stories how a painter paints his artwork, it just comes to me out of the blue, completely random, instant inspiration and unless I am currently busy doing something else I go and write it. Not once during this project did I get this inspiration explosion and as a result it is far lacking from my other writings and is quite possibly my worst work yet (minus that terrible animation during an earlier project). However, while the initial story itself wasn’t too bad it was likable revolving around a princess who is cursed into not aging and growing but because I had to rush a finished story and then after that change it to first person causing me to rush it even more much of its progressively forming depth was thrown out to a bare bones of an interactive story. This is one of those projects where extra time would not have made any difference, like I could have gone workaholic double time and gone a full 600 hours on this and I still don’t think it would be much better than it is currently because it lacked inspiration, most of that time would be spent just staring at the project on the screen unable to figure out what to do next just like what probably 1/3 of this project consisted of. Another mistake that I didn’t realise until now refers to the SCP foundation reference I made, I realise that I could have actually used that as really good research material because it interacts with the reader in a unique way in that it is psychological, it gets inside your head, invades your psyche and that could have made for something truly interesting but too bad I didn’t come across it until late October so far too late anyway. In terms of learning something new I did discover a bit more to do with the media but not something I would want to implement. Overall I clearly wasn’t meant to make Interactive Stories or at least not of this type and I don’t think I am ever going to do another one in the future.
