On Friday I went to The Grand Budapest Hotel movie screening at the IU Cinema. The movie begins when a teenage girl starts reading a memoir about a trip the author took to the Grand Budapest Hotel in 1968. The rest of the movie takes place in the late 60’s and tells a story about when the author was a lobby boy at the hotel and all of his experiences that came along with it. Somewhere along his journey, it turns into a mysterious murder case after he was accused of killing one of the hotel guests. Over the course of the semester, we learned a lot about the idea of invention. This entire movie was developed around invention. It started with fictional setting of the Republic of Zubrowka, and was set off by the murder accusation. The idea that this author murdered one of the hotel guests began strictly from knowledge that he spent one night alone with her. The rest was invented and persuaded by the women’s family.
