"For my entire life, I've been at Pops' side, always wanting to be useful to him somehow." -- Blue, [Wolf's Rain] Requested by scribeassistant.
As Shinji walked with the she-dog by his side, he mused to himself as to what to call the other. Many names passed by through his head, and then out of his mouth, talking out loud to himself— or rather, talking to the dog spitting out suggestions as to what to call the other.
"Maybe I should call you Lady." It had a nice ring to it, as the other was a she-dog. "It.. doesn’t really fit…" The name was put aside. There was a pause as he continued musing to himself. It was odd being in such a situation. Never would Shinji had thought he was taking home a dog that was lost. Granted terrible thoughts were running through his head.
{ What if Misato kicks her out? What if an Angel attacks the city by surprise? What if I accidentally kill her while inside the EVA? }
Terrible. Disgusting. The dog would be better off without you.
The thoughts halted his echoing thoughts, the only sound coming from the cars that drove by and the sounds that were made when feet hit the ground. The light turned red, and Shinji stopped. Silence. After about a second he turned to the dog and knelt down. “What do you think I should call you?”
Like asking a dog would get an answer.
☾ — Never had she been called 'lady' while in this form, it'd only happen when the illusion had been conjured. Blue would've been content with whatever name the boy would give, but she feels obligated to go by the name given by her boy.
Upon his inquiry, the she-dog looks over at the brunette, eyeing him for quite some time. Once again, she debates whether or not it would be best for her to speak in his native tongue. After all, Shinji was rather a nervous wreck, but the she-dog feels that he no longer feels unnerved by her presence.
[ Blue ... my name is Blue. ]
Don't be runaway, please I don't want to be left alone again.
"—well… yeah. But s’funny!"
No. Corpses aren’t supposed to be funny, nor are they supposed to jiggle. That’s not gonna stop Ellis from poking at them, though.
☾ — "Is it just me or do all humans have a strange sense of humor?"
Despite the rather ... grotesque sight, she's unable to keep herself from smiling at his antics - most people couldn't find something funny about a rotting corpse.
The smile upon Shinji’s face grew wider, and his eyes closed. It was quite rare that a face of happiness would grace his face. It seemed as if the dog knew what he was speaking, as if she knew the words of Japanese, one of the most confusing of tongues that laid upon this world.
The Third slightly petted the other’s forehead, scratching behind her ears. “Alright, but if I take you home you have to behave. We have a pet penguin and his name is PenPen and I don’t want Misato to kill me.” It felt strange to be happy like this. The feeling was so unfamiliar to him, a stranger, and having it place itself upon his heart was the oddest of odds.
{ I shouldn’t be happy. }
No, now was not the time to think like that. Slowly he placed those sicking thoughts somewhere else in his mind and engulfed himself in the moment that was unfolding before him slowly. After a second or two, Ikari got up from his crouched position and beckoned the dog to come forward. “Come on, this way.” Perhaps he should pick a name out for the girl…
☾ — Traveling for as long as she did came with it's advantages -- to understand various human tongues was only one of those advantages.
Soft whines escape the canine's throat at his touch. Much time has passed since Blue's had someone willingly pet her, she almost forgets how it felt altogether. "Aoooo," Her wine would have to suffice as confirmation to his words. The hybrid is unfamiliar with whatever 'PenPen' was, but she'll do what she can not to cause it harm, for Shinji's sake.
I'll be a good girl, I promise.
Blue does not hesitate, she follows him in stride the moment she's beckoned. Velvet ears raise to attention, instinctively wary of the surrounding area despite it's desolateness.
"Arf, arf!" It feels so good to feel happy again.
Wolf’s Rain- Episode 1
…Pokes the bottom-half of a dead Boomer with the end of his bat.
☾ —
"... that's just gross and unnerving." Totally taking about the dead boomer here. It smells and looks gross, and it also jiggles! Wait, were corpses even suppose to jiggle in the first place?
⊰ ♱ ⊱ “I thought I’d follow the rather u n p l e a s a n t scent I happened to come by. Seems t’have led me straight to ya.”
Wow, Bigby. r00d—
☾ — [ You're one to talk, I can smell you a mile away w o l f. What brings you here to these parts? Looking for another victim? ]
Blue, please, don't fight with him.
’——Eeck!’ Red wasn’t- she wasn’t expecting a dog to jump out at her, and her hands trembled for a second— just the time she needed to get under control. ‘I don’t- what do you mean?’ Saying she was surprised over a talking wolf would be an exaggeration, for, now that she looked it over, she could say with some grade of certainty that is was a wolf. A talking wolf, given everything she had gone throught, wasn’t that far of a stretch.
☾ —
[ It's not hard to understand - I'm only asking you on what you want. ] Humans were getting duller and duller every passing minute, but then again, there has not been a moment where one wasn't phased by the mere fact that they had an animal speaking to them.
Either way, the girl's reaction was enough for Blue to cease her snarling. Though, it does not ease her into dropping her guard just yet.
A slightly saddened expression passed over his face as he was given a negative answer. Eyes seemed to haze at the feeling of being alone. It was a feeling known all too well. Abandonment from his father, and the loss of his mother. Only given a friend when forced to pilot the EVA and protect the city that only saw him in the fame of controlling a monster. It wasn’t just the city he protected, but Humanity, and yet barely a person looked at him.
Humans are disgusting.
"Hey it’ll be alright." The collar looked like it didn’t have any information on the owner. This would make things difficult. "Well, we can’t have you running around here lose when an Angel can attack," Shinji mused to himself. "Maybe I can take care of you until we can find your owner." That’s if Asuka didn’t complain about it all the time. Misato would understand why he was doing this. Penpen wouldn’t mind some company anyway, right? Besides, the Third Child didn’t want to think of fighting an Angel with the possibility of killing an animal.
{ We can be alone together. { Maybe then we won’t be as alone.
☾ — The same could be said about the wolves. Had it not been for them and the flower maiden, she would have lived her remaining days playing dog with her boy and family, most importantly, she'd continue to turn a blind eye to the world's cruelty.
But, not all were mindless animals. Her pack redeemed the species as a whole, perhaps the same could be accomplished by the humans.
His musings were received well by the canine. While temporary, the possibility of going to a home makes her feel nostalgic, jubilant even. Stepping towards the brunette once more, she laps at the boy's hand with her tongue. Blue's grateful of him for even considering on caring for her, and it shows.
I'd like very much, t h a n k y o u.
I’ll protect you with my life.

Trotting over to the area they were calling home for the night, Toboe held on tightly to rolls he’d managed to steal from the back of the bakery. They were only a little burnt, there was no reason they should have thrown them out.
"Blue!" he called out, seeing her. "Look what I got!"
☾ — With the pack gone to complete their individual duties, the hybrid makes herself useful by gathering the necessary components to create a compact fire for their shelter. Absentmindedly pacing to and fro, Blue catches the runt's scent before he can ever speak --
With a gentle beam, she approaches her pack-mate to admire his prize, "Good job, Toboe!" she praises the brunette, happy to know that the pack would have something to put in their bellies tonight, no matter how burnt or little it was, "We can eat these once the others get back, okay?"

☾ — Growls, [ What do you want? ]
If nothing had happened… I could’ve stayed happy forever.
I just wanted to take you to Paradise. You were the one who brought me all the way here.
