Over my head

I'm 39, live in South London and my job is quite hard to explain to people. It's pretty boring too so I'll gloss over that. Mostly, I will reblog Dirk Gently, Galavant, Shoot from the Hip, Joey Batey and The Amazing Devil, so if you don't like those, you won't like me. I am also partial to knitting. Good day.

The monster is finished. It needs a border but that's a later problem.

I tweaked my chart and redid the corner square and knitted up the adjacent square for my cursed horror and the wild blanket. My ambition seems to exceed the limits of knitting so im not sure if I'll see this through to the end.

Update on my Horror and the Wild blanket. I finished the corner and I wasn't happy with it because the proportions were off. I'll show you the chart I made versus the end result. You can see that the knitted version is way taller than designed.

So I knew I had to change up the pattern. I think i ended up tripling the project in size, but it seems to be knitting up to scale now.

Halfway through square 1 of whatever the hell it is I'm making. I had originally tagged it as THATW blanket project, but it's gonna be way too small for that. I am not sure whether or not to keep going or rip it back and try something different.

I finally managed to design the tattoo that I really want to get. The only trouble is, I suspect if any artist is capable of it, it will probably be quite large, so I haven't figured out where I want it.

how did you get into knitting? I see all your gorgeous projects and I'm always curious how to start, I think it's such a cool art form!

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to send an ask! I love you for it.

Various generations of my family tried and failed to teach me as a child. Despite my grandma, mum and sister trying to teach me, I just couldn't pick it up. They would show me and I would watch them and then I would try to copy them and it was a disaster all round. Skip ahead to my late teens/early twenties, I picked up a knitting magazine and they had written instructions with photos, and I read the instructions and I followed along and suddenly I could knit. I think the reason my family couldn't teach me was what I call the mirror effect. I was watching them do something from the opposite angle that I was attempting to do it, and so it wasn't making sense to me. Discovered double knitting about 12 or so years ago and it is my absolute favourite technique.

I have two favourite TAD songs and that's not me being greedy. I like to call them my head favourite and my heart favourite. A head favourite is a song that you recognise as being brilliant in its composition, melodies, harmonies, lyrics etc. And you think it deserves all of the awards.

A heart favourite is a song that speaks to you on a fundamental level, whether spiritually, emotionally or whatever. It's a song that reaches deep inside you and leaves you feeling seen.

My head favourite is Battle Cries. I genuinely think it's an amazingly written song and is absolutely perfect, which is why it was so wonderful to hear the utterly charming shambles it became at the Hay Festival gig.

My heart favourite is Farewell Wanderlust, and since I've waffled too much in this post already, you can read why in the linked post.
