Ted frowned again as he listened to Felix, making a soft whine and looking down at the ground once his twin stopped going off. He hesitated, slowly nodding his head.

“Right… Sorry, Felix…” He mumbled quietly. “I.. Guess I just forgot.” He sighed quietly, holding his hands together, kicking his foot slightly as he thought for a moment.

“…Why aren’t we allowed to play like normal kids, Felix…? We’re not even allowed to work an actual job, why can’t we play in the meantime?”

     For some strange reason, it really took a lot out of him to explain all that. But it was simply the truth, wasn’t it?  No matter. Felix knew he was above ‘playing’ like ‘normal kids,’ and that was enough.

     He frowned at his twin’s questions,  “ Well-- Because!  Father said so. That should be reason enough for you. ”  He huffed, crossing his arms.

     ———  “ Besides, we’re Huxleys. And the Huxleys own Applesoft, and that is an important business. Business itself is important, and we should learn it as soon as possible. ”  That was just more parroting of what he’d heard their father saying.

     theo’s smile faltered at the mention of father, but very quickly brightened at the suggestion . he gently brushed a bit of hair out of felix’s eyes affectionately, still staying close in a loose embrace .

     “ that’s a great idea ! i’m sure he’ll be tired . we should get him some food, too ! and we can all play a game when we’re together . th - that’s okay, right ? “ he suddenly became sheepish, realize he had gotten carried away .

     “ i mean … we can do whatever you want . it’s c - certainly not up to me . “

     It wasn’t much of a big deal for Felix;  after all, he was used to the treatment he got. But he knew it worried Theo and Ted, so he tried to reassure them back as much as he could. Besides, he really was fine!  He had his brothers, and that was enough.

     Felix smiled from the affection, hugging Theo. He gave a squeeze of finality before pulling away just enough, reaching to grab hold of Theo’s hand again as he nodded,  “ Yes, that sounds perfect. That’ll be so fun. ”

     ———  “ Oh, but it’s your decision too. We’re going together, after all. ...So, um, shall we get going, then?  I think the family driver won’t mind taking us, if we want to get there sooner. ”

     ———  “ Might I have been so sleep deprived that I swallowed my pen whole?  Perhaps. Would I dare tell father and risk having him know about something so embarrassing?  Absolutely not. ”

Ted… To be fair, was genuinely startled that Felix didn’t have an answer for his question instantly. He was used to Felix having all the answers possible - Unless it was a question the adults didn’t have an answer to either.

He frowned slightly as Felix listen the few things he knew, and poorly at that. He tilted his head, poking his bottom lip out in a little pout. He didn’t understand why he couldn’t find new fun things to do, if all they had was… Well, that.

He did like drawing though, and he supposed television was entertaining- As well as chess sometimes, the rare times when his twin would play with him. But he didn’t find reading all that fun- Nor did he particularly enjoy the practices their father made him do for the piano.

“I don’t think most kids would consider those fun, Felix…” Ted mumbled. “But… If that’s what you like doing, I guess I could try to stick to those things!” He chirped out after a moment of thinking, smiling at his brother again.

“As long as it makes you happy!”

     Ugh. That was embarrassing. Humiliating, even. Felix was supposed to be the smart twin-- The one who knew everything Teddy didn’t, and yet, this small matter just utterly complexed him. On the other hand, could you blame him?  Felix didn’t need to be knowledgeable about fun things. That had nothing to do with business. As the future heir, he only needed to know about business. 

     ———  “ Well, we are not ‘most kids,’ Teddy. ”   Felix scoffed. The very idea of doing things that common children do disgusted him.  “ As for me, I don’t particularly care about leisure. ”

     He had to not care, really. Because even if he did, when would Felix ever have the time to actually do anything fun?  What with all of father’s lessons, school, and everything else he was meant to do to further his business and academic knowledge.

     ...Happy?  Felix frowned at that.  “ Teddy, business isn’t fun. It’s basically work. Work isn’t supposed to be fun or happy. Perhaps it’s different for you and you can spend your time doing whatever unimportant rubbish since father clearly prefers me more. Either way, you wouldn’t understand. ”

     theo gave an affirmative nod, hugging his brother quickly before rushing to put on his yellow sweater . it had practically become his trademark, and one of the only ways that anyone could tell the three brothers apart . sweater secured, he returned with another hug for felix .

     arms still around him, theo spoke a little quieter . “ did you want to bring ted ? is everything okay ? are you okay ? “ he asked softly . theo made it a point to check on the both of them as much as he could . he worried about them, and didn’t want them to be sad if he could help it .

     As Theo hugged him each time, Felix hugged back gladly. With the sweater, he felt it was even softer and warmer and smiled to himself a little. He nuzzled his brother affectionately. But at the questions, he looked at Theo as he gave it some thought. Was he okay?

     ———  “ Well, I asked Teddy, but he said he was going to be busy with martial arts stuff. Practicing kicks and all that. Hm... I suppose I am okay. I mean, father has been in a better mood lately so, y’know... ”  Felix trailed off, not really wanting to dwell more on that.

     ———  “ Anyways-- Perhaps we can get Teddy a surprise present of some sort while we’re there?  That’s a good idea, right? ”

     theo brightened up when one of his brothers approached . his smile only grew when felix suggesting spending time together - how thoughtful ! theo grabbed his brother’s hand softly, giggling . 

     “ of course, felix … i’d love to . all of it . maybe we could play our new games together after we get home ! “ his smile suddenly got a little shy . “ i - if that’s okay . we can leave soon, just let me get my sweater, please . “

     Seeing him accept the offer, Felix’s own smile grew brighter as well, happy to be spending time with him. When Theo grabbed his hand, he gave a gentle squeeze back.

     ———  “ Oh yes, I would love that! ”   He grinned, nodding at the suggestion excitedly,  “ Of course. Take your time, don’t worry. We’re not in a rush. ”

     ———  “ Oh, um, Theo--? ”   He shuffled up to his brother, a timid smile on his face,  “ What do you say to going to the mall with me today?  We could perhaps buy some new outfits or games, maybe even get some ice cream or something... Is that alright with you? ”

Ted sniffled quietly, rubbing his eyes as he watched his brother tend to the wound. He whimpered at the idea of their father finding out he had done something improper, so he nodded.

“Yes, Felix…” He muttered, before perking up a tad and tilting his head to the side.

“What other fun things?”

     Now that the bandage was in place, Felix had begun to put away the first aid items-- genuinely this time. What a nuisance, having to look after his mediocre twin like this. But at the question, he looked back at Ted and flusteredly replied, not having expected that.

     ———  “ ...What are you asking me for?  How should I know? ”   Felix frowned. 

     He didn’t exactly... do any ‘fun’ things himself. He rarely even had any hobbies;  why on earth would Teddy think he could recommend anything fun for him to do!?

     Still, he stammered, attempting to come up with a response anyway. He was the one who told his twin there were fun things to do without getting hurt...  “ Erm... There’s, uh... Chess...?  Drawing?  Reading?  Practicing instruments?  Uh... watching television...? ”   ...Yeah, that’s about all he could come up with. And he didn’t even do a majority of those himself. He was really struggling there.

     though the words were harsh, ( and admittedly stung ) he smiled brightly, expression soft and affectionate . he truly did adore his brother . despite felix’s treatment of him, he could never pretend that he hated his brother . he didn’t .

     “ yes . of course . and i’m grateful . if it weren’t for you, i’d be even worse than i already am . we wouldn’t want me to end up punished by father more than necessary, right ? “ the last question was followed by a light laugh . an odd thing, considering they both knew what happened to ted when father was unhappy .

     the mere mention of their father made ted instinctively pull his sleeve down, as if to hide the bruises he had on his arms even more . they were already hidden, but pulling down his sleeves had become somewhat of a nervous tick .

     “ you’re really a good brother, felix . you deserve being the better twin . “ he said, not a hint of being anything but genuine .

     ———  “ Right, right. I’m already aware of that. ”  Felix brushed off his brother’s gratitude, shifting his weight uncomfortably as he just kind of... stood there. 

     Why were Teddy’s words giving him a sort of... queasy feeling in his gut?  As if Felix felt almost guilty for the fact it seemed Ted really believed what he was saying?  It was uncomfortable. Felix did everything he could to step all over his brother, and here Teddy was, still thanking him as if it were a good, fine, welcome thing to do. ...Surely it was nothing. This feeling was merely nothing, and he should ignore it like he always did.

     His expression fell for the briefest moment Teddy had called him a ‘good brother’, that he ‘deserved being the better twin’. It was a crack in the mask he constantly wore, giving way to something that looked almost distraught. But just as quickly, Felix regained composure, stoically frowning.

     ———  “ I-- I know that. ”  His voice might betray him. Felix paused to clear his throat and look away. Look at anything but Ted right now.  “ You, er... You really believe so, don’t you? ”

     ———  “ How dare you, Teddy. Why would you say something so disgusting. I told you it is simply a perfectly unguessable password. Nothing more. ”

“ why , thank you for the apology ^^ “ he beamed .

this kid is speaking more formally than what you would consider normal for a child , and though simple , the outfit looks formal and expensive . do they come from a wealthy family ? and , why , not allowed to eat sweets ? that seems a little strict . of course too many is unhealthy for you , but it’s good to treat yourself to a yummy dessert once in a while ! and the young ‘un definitely looks like he really wants the treat .

sammi looked around the parlor , searching for anyone that might’ve looked like their caretaker , or at least dressed somewhat fancier than the other patrons . “ well , is your father here right now ? “ he whispers , “ you’re eyeing the éclairs quite closely . “

“ if you really want one , i promise i wont tell . “ he made a gesture of zipping his mouth shut with a smile .

     ...Well, it was true that father was not here with him at the moment. Felix was meant to wait for him around the area while he finished up with important business in private company, so he had done just that. And sure, perhaps his gaze settled on the éclairs, but that didn’t make it okay for this man to point it out so bluntly.

     It took Felix some effort to pry his eyes away despite knowing father did not allow him and his brother to eat sweets. He replied quickly, “ Tempting, but I shouldn’t disobey my father... ”

     But the scents and colours on the baked treats really were giving him second thoughts. It just looked so appetizing... He battled against conflicted emotions, frowning gently as he found himself asking in a small voice, anxious.

     ———  “ ...Would you really promise?  ”

     Perhaps there was a part of Felix that didn’t want to admit he’d gotten hurt in any capacity. After all, he wasn’t some fragile weakling, and who knows what his father would do if his precious heir was injured?  Then again, his ankle hurt so much, and he had the feeling if he didn’t get any help, the pain would only get worse.

     Hesitantly, Felix began to mumble,  “ ...My ankle. ”  He pointed towards his left ankle. He wasn’t sure what happened;  he must’ve twisted it when he fell. How annoying.

     Other than that, however, it didn’t seem he was making any move to make it easier for Pico to help him. He was just kind of... sitting there, not moving.

“take your time. slow, slow. you’re doing great.”

“you could have a concussion. ”

“i’m okay. you can stop hovering.”

“you’re lucky. you could have gotten seriously hurt.”

“how exactly did you manage to give yourself a black eye?”

sammi turned around to find whoever had said such foul language , and to his surprise—

ah ! it was a young child ? my word , do they not know the context of such wording ?

“ that’s not a very nice thing to say ! it would be kind of you to speak more politely . “ he said with a smile, leaning over the counter a bit.

“ which pastry did you want ? they all have their own price , so you’ll have to pay accordingly ! “ 

     Oh. It seemed he heard that. Felix was more so mumbling that to himself, but it was his honest truth. Who would pay for some pastries made by a total nobody anyway?  This wasn’t some international conglomerate of a pastry shop, and yet it seemed to be more popular than Felix thought.

     ———  “ ...Fine then, I apologize. ”  Felix frowned, though the apology was more of a formality than anything.

     He shook his head, a mildly disgusted look on his face.  “ Father rarely allows my brother and I to eat sweets. I’ll have to decline. ”  Though, the way he was eyeing the éclairs said otherwise. He was clearly holding himself back. He was still just a kid, after all.
