“Yessir.” He’d rather avoid that too. In fact, any excuse to not come in and avoid Knives and his pet psycho was welcome.
“Should I recognize these messengers? Yanno, so I don’ accidentally shoot ‘em or somethin’.”
“Chances are, you probably will.”
It wasn’t like he was about to send any human just at random, at least not without Legato’s influence in place over them. But even just a simple messenger had the highest of standards placed upon them -- leaving things to chance wasn’t an option. “No doubt they’ll remain concealed, for obvious reasons. Even you might not manage to fuck things up so badly as to openly pick fights with other Gung Ho Guns.”

“-- are you so sure you’ll last out there?”
Not that he was concerned for their well-being, but there was definitely some sort of personal investment involved.
“You’re trying to fight a war against gods. There’s no hope for you surviving what’s to come.”
nicholas-wolfwood:
Of course. Well, he’d much rather take the verbal taunting than any potential punishment, so he keeps his tongue in check for once.
“…In Octovern. Not sure where he’s stayin’, exactly, but it’s in the city.”
Unlike the rest of his lot, this man had faced -- on multiple times -- the overwhelming power of the plants. It was almost that he had become desensitized to the constant sensation, hanging heavy in the air, numb to the world around him. Humans were just a sad & pathetic parasitic bunch, weren’t they? Their methods of survival all varied only slightly from one another, but in the face of a superior being, the equalizer, there was no chance that any of those would outlast him.
“So you should be in Octovern too. In the future, you can expect messengers. Too many meetings like this, and you know he’ll start asking questions. And I’m not sure you’re ready to tell him that his friend works for me quite so soon.”
cyborgnazivampirehunter:
Quite an unhappy fellow. It was a curious question as to why this was the case. “600 Miles hmm? What? Are you from england?” He chuckled gently. Even strohiem was capable of quiet, limited quiet. “Ah. Tell me, what brings an Englander to wonderful Germany so close to war?” He said. “Did you wish to see your defeated foe? With the army? Some special forces?”
The other’s words rang initially of unfamiliarity, but it took him only a second to dig up old memories consisting of images and narration -- the history of Earth.
Not all humans were like Rem.
Which war of theirs was this? There were so many, and he hadn’t the chance or full-hearted desire to commit their history to memory, more interested in what was the present for him. But then a mild, if cold, smile graced his pale features. Humans killing each other was nothing new, and this wasn’t his conflict.
“Something like that.”

AW, FUCK! ABORT MISSION! ABORT! ABORT!!
“I uh… thought ya weren’t comin’ back fer another few weeks, Sir…”
“I guess someone like you would worry about a few mere weeks.”
Indeed, it was a stab at the man’s nature. A professional baby-sitter in his field of work, with the modifications known to his organization just didn’t have much time. The man was just too busy to yet make his mad scramble for continued existence, or perhaps had perished the thought long ago, an amusing idea to Knives.
“Where is Vash right now?”
no one touch him!!
It’s very clear: no one else is allowed to truly inflict harm upon his brother besides himself. Indirectly, the Gung Ho Guns have permission, but Knives cannot account for the horrific scars he has witnessed upon Vash’s form. He knows those are caused by humans, compounding his desire to save his brother from the twisted ideals implanted by Rem.
Humans can’t accept and coexist with plants peaceably. Their history upon Earth has proven as such, and the fact of the matter is that Vash is all Knives has left to truly cherish. His care for all plants, his brethren, is always present, but the connection with them does not run as deeply as it does with his twin.
Knives’ frustration with Vash’s ways may at times be misinterpreted, such as Legato’s early-on attack that resulted in Knives nearly wiping him out in a single movement, but his anger over the years has been redirected towards Rem. She is the one responsible for this. He will save Vash from himself, no matter what it takes, for killing him is the absolutely last resort.

Why were they on her family grounds? Her Granddad’s cabin was only down the unbeaten path.
She was raised with manners though, she may feel defensive but she would talk first.
“Are you lost?” A legitimate question. This forest was no camp site. It wasn’t safe for normal people.
The question was simple in itself, and the answer even more so despite his own set of questions. Though it was difficult to read the woman, he would act with caution until he could further discern the situation.
“No.”
Beneath his feet, he could feel the vibrant biosphere humming with life, images only seen in photographs and in dreams materialized to reality through the forest around them. “Not lost, but I have to admit that I don’t know where I am.”

╞ ϟ ╡ “Yes, Sir.”
Much of the Lieutenant’s life was dedicated to informal military. Discipline was not even second nature; it was his nature. Even if being around such power was beyond intimidating. His only hope of having any use to the other was to prove he was nothing like other humans. After all he had a skill that was all his own. Luu used his form of bending to help the dependent Plants many times already. But to show Knives? And how? He wouldn’t dare even attempt to do it to Knives himself. Only where else was there going to be Plant energy around here?
“…I will need to ask for access to your energy. I can only manipulate Plant energy, not create it myself. A touch is all I require.” It was a dangerous thing to ask. Luu did manage to find the courage to look Knives in the eye. Hopefully his goggles would keep that touch of fear hidden.
So far, he was wholly underwhelmed by the aging man before him, someone who was past their prime and only knew their survival by sucking up to those in power. Perhaps the only reason Knives found himself still listening to him was not because he was a part of the Eye of Michael, but rather an interest in seeing how the man had survived for so long with his so-called claims of resourcefulness.
“The answer is no.”
With that request, the stranger had garnered the nerve to look him in the eye, bold in overcoming the natural fear that most felt -- and though perhaps that had impressed him, Knives’ view and was unyielding. “The plants have already contributed their lives and more to humans -- what makes you think you have the right to ask for even more, even for just a simple demonstration? Your kind is already wasteful and greedy, unable to exist without reliance on others like parasites.” His tone was as icy as his gaze once more, irritation giving way to thinly veiled anger, disgust bubbling underneath his skin. But even upon just a simple exhale, he was capable of bottling up his emotions, to restrain from slaying the human where he stood. No, there was an opportunity yet, for research, and given time, for further development, building off of what may come before if at all.
“If you’re as resourceful as you claim, you’ll find a way to utilize your abilities without plants.”
The deadline had been set, but he wouldn’t tell Luu Hai that.
“ I'm just killing the spiders to S A V E the butterflies. “

“Unbelievable.”
Cities were already a cesspool of pestilent, greedy humans, most unawares of the concept of personal space. Yet even he was afforded a wider area than most, even for how phenomenally crowded this particular city was, most sensing something off about him. ( It was a human’s instinct to try to avoid what may very well kill them, a basic instinct for most animals, really. ) And while he could’ve ignored the man who was almost insistently shoving people out of his path with his head in the clouds -- he couldn’t ignore the fact that he was sneezed upon.
“You’re the lowest of the low, right?”
╞ ϟ ╡ It sent a cold chill down his spine. But nothing more then a swallow would show. If he was going to unravel so quickly in the Plant’s presence then Chapel was wrong about him. Luu’s one desire was to prove himself useful. If he could gain Knive’s favor of all things… The idea was shaken off as the other spoke. Luu only shifted to hold his stance more firmly and dared not look him in the eyes.
“My expertise lies in other areas over killing, Sir. If you would allow me to show you it would be easier then explaining.”
Discipline.
Ever was that an obvious tenant of the Eye of Michael, and even now Knives was not disappointed. But it did nothing to deter his irritation directed towards the man, nor did it impress him by any measure. Some humans were capable of remaining calm when facing the very manifestation of their doom, as if ultimately resigned to their fate. The other’s gaze remained adamantly away from his own, refusing to let their eyes meet, the idea amusing the plant -- perhaps this one’s resolve was not yet so strong, but submission was better than rebellion.
At the words spoken, curiosity was piqued -- as well as caution. If this one preferred to show, rather than tell, there was no precise way to predict where his demonstration would be directed, and should this be a sad ploy to try to attack him, then the man would deserve the retribution surely to come.
“Then do so quickly.”
Strohiem found a calamity victim
calamiitied started following you
Stroheim looked at the man on the street. “Who is this I wonder?” He said curious. “Well. How interesting.” He said simply, noting the outfit only. “Tell me sir, where are you from?”
What a confident attitude!!
Hardly what he wanted to face, let alone anyone in particular, the man’s questions as unwelcome as his presence. The scowl painted upon alabastrine features hardly concealed his thoughts, but the stranger was correct -- he was perhaps out of place, more so than he initially bargained. And though this man did nothing to earn his honesty, there was yet no reason to conceal the truth, even if there was a slim chance it could be presented in a vague, incomprehensible manner.
“-- far. Over 600 iles.”
As much as he would have liked to, he couldn’t ignore her presence. Daresay it was akin to Vash, though with an unsettling undercurrent to the sensations he gained from simply existing within each other’s proximity.
He didn’t like it.
It wasn’t the same as Vash; there was no relation or basal emotion that he could share with his sisters -- this woman was a source of suspicion, plain as day. Best it was to cut to the chase, for his patience towards the game of cat-and-mouse had died out decades ago.
“You. What is your name?”
