Bobby Kennedy
you should start a Kennedy book club. It would be interesting to know your thoughts
wait I actually Love this idea but I have no idea how to go about it. I did do a post on some Kennedy books I've read here but it didn't cover every book I've read on them so I was thinking of doing a part 2 to that post. if anyone has suggestions regarding a book club I'd love to hear
Did jack and Jackie have sx disease ?
Jack got an STD while he was at Harvard (allegedly chlamydia) and was treated for it and was apparently no longer contagious but he did occasionally feel pain when urinating and cumming (he also had UTIs). He likely had other STDs as well but the college one is the only definite one. There are rumors that he gave Jackie an STD and it resulted in her difficulty getting and staying pregnant but that isn't confirmed. I'd say it's highly probable that she contracted something from him but again, there is no confirmation or credible documentation of such
For his part, Jack had few, if any, illusions about the book. He understood that circumstances more than his skill as a writer and analyst had given the book its resonance. But he also understood that seizing the main chance when it presented itself was not to be despised; he was more than happy, then, to devote his summer to publicizing and selling Why England Slept.
Kennedy friend Charles Spalding remembers visiting Jack at the Cape shortly after the book has appeared. "Jack was downstairs with a whole pile of these books... it was just a wonderful disarray of papers, letters from Prime Ministers and congressmen and people you've heard about, some under wet bathing suits and some under the bed." When Spalding asked how the book was selling, "[Jack's] eyes lit up and he said 'Oh, very well. I'm seeing to that.' He was seeing that the books were handed out and he was really moving the books... It was just a sort of amusing pragmatism that he hadn't just written the book and then he was going to see it just disappear. He was going to see that it got sold. He was just laughing at his own success... He was doing everything he could to promote it. And he was good at that... The interviews, radio programs, answering letters, autographing copies, sending them out, checking bookstores."
Robert Dalleck John F. Kennedy: An Unfinished Life, 1917-1963
Did joe jr and jack really bully their mother because their father was having affairs with other women ? and she basically didn’t do anything about it? Cause i read about it in book that discussed the fact that they didn’t really respect their mother and took their father side all the time
I think it's fair to say that Joe Jr. and Jack generally sided with their father and did not sympathize with Rose. That attitude stemmed from a much broader family dynamic. Joe Sr. was a lot more involved in the older kids lives growing up than Rose was and there was a lot of resentment among some of the older kids (namely Jack) for how cold their mother could be. You'll even see in letters how to their dad it's always "Dad" or "Daddy" but to Rose it's always "Mother". The younger were treated differently than the older kids. Bobby was always Rose's son while Joe Jr. and Jack were always Joe's. Even when Jack was little, he said to her right before yet another one of her trips "Gee, you're a great mother to go away and leave your children alone." But much on the contrary, Bobby spent his youth doing whatever he could to please his father in hopes that Joe would give him just a scrap of the attention he gave to his older brothers. So that's roughly how the family dynamic played out and it is true that Jack and Joe Jr. were resentful towards their mother– but more so Jack than Joe Jr. Because Joe Sr. was so involved in their upbringing, they came to share his view that affairs were not that big of a deal, which is crucial to understanding their dismissal of what he put their mother through. I'm not sure "bully" is the exact term I'd use but the combination of ideas that the affairs were not a big deal and also that their mother wasn't very loving did result in them being on their father's side.
Uh I just thought your asks were being titled "Got my ear like Van Gogh" was very funny okay thats all
