ruinaa
[ She slides into a booth in Josephine’s section, anxious excitement boiling just below the surface of her skin as she hides behind the brim of her hat and the menu that hasn’t changed at all in the months she’s been gone.
As Josephine approaches, Paige peeks over the top of the menu before slowly lowering it, all smiles. ]
--miss me?
H e’s more than happy to see her. His best friend, his little sister, the little girl in a too big coat all grown up and one of the most beautiful people he knows. Sometime — sometime, he has to tell her how proud he is of her, of how she had managed a hold of her gift and used it. How she wasn’t scared of the wind anymore.
But he supposed maybe not at this moment, her face buried in his shirt. It hurts, just a bit, but he doesn’t care.
“ I’m alright. I’m alright.” He assures her, holding her as tight as he can. After Rayo, he knows the fear that comes with it. “See? Just a few bruises.”
He's so flippant about the whole thing, it's hard to stay upset for long. Eyes still brimmed with moisture, she smiles, and its a bit shaky, but its there and its true.
"I missed you, E," she says, catching herself laughing softly at how inadequate the words are. "God, I missed you."
She takes a step or two back to put a comfortable amount of space between them, but she keeps a hand on one of his arms as if to prove he's still there, standing strong and more or less whole.
"I--" Whether or not it's the right time, she opens up about her plans. "I'm planning to stay, E. Here."
[ She still doesn’t feel right here.
She doubts she ever will, really; the mansion, for all the change it has gone through, still makes her feel too small in her skin. ]
No.
No, I’m just — I’m not staying. I’m here to see Elliot.
[ A sliver of hope, small as it is, gets crushed at Josephine's answer. Deep down, though, she'd known the answer before the question had even passed her lips. ]
Right, of course.
My old room's been taken and I was planning to stay in yours, if that's okay.
[ Her stuff--all of it, not just enough for a visit--is already set up, taking up a bit of space alongside Robin's. ]
If you aren't staying the night, that is.
[ Unspoken, 'he'd like you to stay longer than just the day' hangs in the air between them. She'd like it, too. ]
[ this is the last person she expected to see. ]
— oh.
Josephine?
[ Suddenly she feels strange sitting here in the mansion again. It's been a long, long time since the both of them occupied this space at the same time. ]
Are you--? Staying, I mean?

all of y'all better watch yourselves
She doesn't know exactly how to handle Elliot's homecoming, how to handle the injuries painted clearly over his skin in angry reds, sickly yellows, and violent purples. Nothing prepares someone for seeing a friend in that state.
Approaching him wordlessly, she hesitates before carefully wrapping her arms around him, afraid to cause him any addition pain. But once she's hugging him, she finds herself burying her face in his shoulder and clutching the back of his shirt.
It's more difficult than it should be to pull away, to look into his eyes.
"Elliot. When I heard--" Paige has to steal herself against another too-tight embrace, but it's hard because suddenly she's too young and too scared all over again. "I thought we lost you."
I can't lose you, too.
