After putting the girls to bed, the twins were finally permitted to see their room.

"'ere's where you'll be sleeping." Cook said gruffly, ushering them into a small room with two beds and a wardrobe that they would be sharing. "You 'ave to share a room, obviously, we were expecting two girls."

"It's fine." Jo said quickly, sitting down on the bed and reaching for her bag. "You've shared a room before."

"Good." Cook nodded. "Alright then, I'll see you two at dawn." 

He closed the door behind him as Josephine retrieved her nightgown from her bag.

Cook crossed the threshold of Charlie’s new home carrying two decently sized trunks. “She packed light.” Came Cook’s sarcastic tone as he set them down in the livingroom. It was the night before the wedding and Cook had come to deliver Chessa’s belongings and run through…

"Oh, I know. I’m genuinely surprised." He smirked. "So big day tomorrow."

"Yeah…I really didn’t think we would make it. Some other worldly power would end up splitting us apart. " Charlie chuckled and shoved his hands into his pockets. "But it’s happening so maybe fate is on our side."

"Yeah I think so too, especially with your awful luck." Cook chuckled. "Do you remember what time you’re getting up at?"

"Eight, that is if I get to sleep." Charlie paused. "My luck can’t be that bad!"

Cook made a non-commital noise as he shrugged. "Well, it used to be. But things ‘ave been looking up as of late, you got yourself a pretty woman, a nice ‘ouse, a good job…yeah." he sighed. "You know, i’m a bit proud of you. Despite your bad luck you made all the right decisions."

Charlie just smiled and patted him on the shoulder, After so many years of being alone Charlie had some how managed to adopt a fatherly figure for himself and for that he was thankful. “I have to admit, you helped with the change in luck.”

"Huh, yea, I suppose I did." He grinned, placing his hand on Charlie’s shoulder. "So ‘ow’re you feeling mate?" He asked, a small smirk on his face.

"I’ a little nervous." he admitted.

"What about?" Cook asked, sitting on one of the couches in the livingroom.

"I don’t know. That fate decides to get in the way. Maybe Chessa doesn’t show up. I don’t know. I’m just nervous bout something."

"She’s probably in the same state as you are, so be brave and show up. That’s all you’ll need to make tomorrow perfect."

If anything Chessa was probably in  much worse state of anxiety. “That’s the best advice you can give to me right now.” Charlie said honestly. He looked round the house. “Chessa will love this house.” he said changing the subject.

"Yeah, it suits you both. By the way, were swinging over to the pub after your wedding tomorrow. Maybe you’d like to join us after the two of you ‘ave settled in?"

"We’ll join you right after the wedding. Who all is coming?"

"Gwen, Philip, Jeremiah, me, all of us really. The boys are being watched by a neighbour."

"Great. We will be there." Charlie nodded.

Over the past few weeks Charlie and Jeremiah had bounded quite a bit and considered themselves as friends. Gwen and Phillip had adopted him as nephew in a way and the triplets as a big brother. It was nice having a little family away from actually family.

"Good, well it’s late, and you need your rest." He stood from his chair and stretched. "Jer and I’ll be here around half-past nine, then the carriage’ll pick us up around ten."

"Nonesense." Gwen said as Philip started taking everyone’s empty dishes.

Jeremiah hummed in understanding as the triplets excused themselves. "Can I get you boys a drink?" Gwen asked, getting up to fetch some drinks. "Just a beer for me please." Jeremiah requested, leaning back in his chair.

"I’m fine thanks." He shook his head. "You don’t drink?" Jeremiah asked, raising an eyebrow. "No, never liked the taste." That and the first time Charlie had ever had a sip of liquor he was beaten senseless about ten minutes later.

"You’re odd." Jeremiah smirked. "But you’re pretty alright too. If you’re having a rough time, you can count me as a friend; I’ll do whatever I can to help." He took a swig from the mug Gwen placed in front of him. “Thanks Gwen.”

Gwen smiled as she settled back down at the table. "Now who's up for a game of cards?" "Oh! I am!" Jeremiah said eagerly. Philip joined them and dealed the cards, they helped Charlie along as the game progressed and had a few good laughs. Gwendolyn smiled, she'd always enjoyed having a full house.
