So, I’ve been seeing some folks compare this man to Rorschach and that bothers me…because he is in definite purposeful contrast to Rorschach, who was never intended to be character fans like or ID with by Alan Moore.
YES, both had serious trauma which lead to mental health issues and odd coping mechanisms.
…But here’s the difference.
Looking Glass, A.K.A Wade Tillman actually tried to live a life, he got married and seems to have had a healthy enough divorce. He’s still friends with his ex, to the point where he can ask her for favors. She also clearly cares about his well-being. He’s also doing his best to help himself and others experiencing a similar trauma, via that support group he runs, which is what you’re supposed to do when you’re dealing with mental trauma.
…While Rorschach self-isolated, blamed, and judged the world. He was ultimately self-destructive and controlling. It’s why he begged the Doc to kill him… He’d been massively depressed and suicidal. Even their masks show the difference in who they are. Both are worn as protection and as a symbol of their trauma. The reflectatine in Glass’ mask, literally is protection from any other psychic squid attacks in Glass’ view, but it also reflects truth.
Rorschach’s was more about reflecting what the viewer saw as truth.
