Hi, I'm a new postdoc at UC Berkeley with a rating of 2250. What is the level of the players in this club?
The level of the club is pretty diverse. The actual team that competes is about 2000-2500, but there is open rec for recreational players as well. The team plays in divisionals, regionals and nationals, which are all really fun & good experiences. If you are interested, email us at [email protected] and we can set up a date to practice/get a feel of your level.
Hello, is there any way to just join in free for one day just get a feel whether or not I want to commit to it?
Yep! Just come and try it out :)
do you guys know where I can buy a Cal table tennis paddle?
Hi,
This is a good website to buy good, cheaper paddles:

Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Sylvan
Hi, I'm new in Berkeley as a LBNL guest worker and I like to play tabletennis. Today I wanted to participate your training, but I did not find it. A man at the front desk of the RSF said, there is no training for tabletennis at the weekends. Is this correct? If not, when and where can I find you to play tabletennis?
During the Fall semester there will be open recreation from MWF 4-6 and TuThurs 4 -8. Sometimes there is no one at open rec even though tables are out. There is usually more people during Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. We play at the back of the basketball court at the back of the first floor of the RSF.
what is the age limit
there is no age limit
Hi. your hours are great for my schedule, i rate about 950, i was wondering if you are open to all members of the public, and also how much it cost to play and what is your location.
Our club is open to the public. Our club does not charge those who play during open rec hours (MWF 4-6, TuTh 4-8). However, UC Berkeley's RSF, the place where the club plays, do charge fees for entering the facility. I do not know how much the RSF charges people from the public who wants to use the RSF. You can get further information about that from their website probably and certainly from the front desk.
Hi, I am a postdoc at Cal and have an RSF membership. I would like to come play a few times, do I have to be a member of the TT club. I would like to know since I am still a beginner, but I would really like to learn more. Thanks, Subu
You do not have to be a member to play at the club during open rec. Open rec happens from 4-6 MWF and 4-8 TuTH in the fieldhouse of the RSF. Although tables will be available at those times, club members are not always present at those times because its the summer. Club members generally try to organize meetings with each other during the summer through the club's facebook page. The club's facebook page is Cal Table Tennis Club.
Whatsup with next year!?
Hey everyone! Hope you all are having a bombass/crazy/amazing summer back home so far :) So Mark Wei, our previous president just graduated, so Ray Liang, Trevor Chou, Sean Qiao and I will be taking over next year! Some of our goals for next year include the following: 1. More structured practice- We will most likely be having group training every/every other Saturday and round robin every Sunday. The Cal Team will provide drills and coach/play with anyone who comes to group training so I hope most of you guys can come! 2. More playing with other schools/clubs- Other schools and clubs have asked if Cal would be interested in scrimmaging & practicing with us so I'll keep all of you updated on that! 3. More socials- This would include dinners, kickbacks, banquets or events where we would all just hang out with each other and get to know each other beyond the court! Ideas include going to dinner after practice sometimes like Taco Tuesdays or Wing Wednesdays at Cafe Durant. OR...PARTY AT MARK"S NEW HOUSE. Google employees should feel free to donate money and or their living space for us ♥ just saaayin. If any of you guys have any more questions feel free to just facebook us & have a great summer!
Mucho love,
Sylvan
Cal Table Tennis Club Spring 2012 Semester-End Banquet
Thank you everybody for playing with us this year! Before the semester ends, we want to have one last get-together before all the seniors leave, and everyone disappears for the summer.
So please join us for the Spring 2012 Semester-End Banquet, scheduled for 6:30pm this Saturday at Le Petit Cheval. RSVP immediately so that we know how many people to expect at http://www.facebook.com/events/445831512097422/
We are hosting the Western Regionals at the RSF on Saturday! The event starts at 9am and ends around 6pm. We encourage all the club members to come and cheer us on! It'll be really fun to meet all the players at the other schools too.
We'll be playing against San Jose State University, UCSD, University of Utah, Washington, University of Southern California, and Stanford University. 7 CoEd teams total, top 3 advance to Nationals.
For UC Berkeley, we'll have Mark Wei, Koji Higashi, Sean Qiao, Jessica Lee, Andrew Lin, and Tammy Gu.
Hi,can you please announce when you meet here instead of facebook? I do not use facebook. Also I thought that this club was free if you were a berkeley student. Did that change? You guys started charging $25?
Hi Anonymous,
The thing is, posting on Facebook is no effort from us, while updating the blog is a pain. Especially for these "micro-announcements" like whether we are playing today. I suggest you create a Facebook account only to follow our announcements. It costs nothing and you don't have to "use" Facebook in other ways.
As long as we get lots of volunteers from the club to help out during our 2 bi-annual tournaments, we will not have to charge people. In the future, that might change.
Volunteering for 2012 Western Open
We need volunteers this Friday and Sunday. The 2012 Western Open will be huge as always, so we need as many people as we can get. If you volunteer, you get to join the club for free. Otherwise, we will ask you to pay the per-semester club fee of $25.
Here are the times that we need people to help out at the RSF:
Friday 2/17:
4-6pm trucks will arrive carrying 30 ping pong tables. We need to unload all the tables and wheel them into the RSF. Meet at our usual practice area if you don't see us in front of the RSF main entrance.
8-11pm RSF clears out all the basketball players and we must set up all the tables, chairs, and barriers. Meet at our usual practice area if you don't see us at the Special Events entrance.
Sunday 2/19:
4-6pm as the tournament finishes, we must put away all the tables, chairs, and barriers as fast as possible. Intramural Basketball starts at 6pm so come early so we don't get in trouble!
We will be checking names off so that we know who helped out. Please talk to me when you arrive. You can let us know that you will be coming by leaving a comment here http://www.facebook.com/groups/237419926307295/
UC Berkeley #2 in Northern California
The UC Berkeley Co-ed Team was ranked #2 last weekend at the second NCTTA NorCal Divisionals. We lost to San Jose State but beat Stanford and UC Davis.
Next, we're looking to get into the NCTTA West Regionals by getting a wildcard slot.

Hi, How good do you have to be to join the club? Thanks!
Nope. We have lots of beginners at the club. I've trained a few myself.
Hi, I am a visiting student and study at Berkeley during this semester. I really like playing table tennis. So how can I join you?
Please join our Facebook group here http://www.facebook.com/groups/237419926307295/
We always announce when we are going to play, and once we have our daily schedule set-up, we will let everyone know too.
You can find us playing at the RSF basketball courts. We have paddles and balls for you if you do not bring your own. Come check us out some time!
