open starter @amorestart· location: casa’s
since opening at six, the bar had been pretty empty. though sometimes groups of younger students and teenagers made their way in for the cheap drinks before ten, the first few hours were often the slowest. avi was working; his first time this week in the bar. it didn’t exactly come as a surprise that not many people listened to him play a few sets, before deciding on a break and a stronger drink than the glass of warm soda that accompanied him on the lid of the grand piano.
he ambled his way to the bar, and took a seat in the very corner. the bartender already knew what he wanted: the usual. scotch on the rocks, easy on the rocks. avi gladly accepted the drink, and paid for it out of pocket. his tip jar was still unfortunately empty. not a surprise, considering the crowd.
it took him this long to realise an unfamiliar face was sat next to him at the bar. well, not necessarily unfamiliar, but someone he didn’t particularly expect to see here, at this time. he smiled, and placed his glass down onto a coaster. “i didn’t know you liked jazz,” avi said, “or are you just here for the free drinks? i wouldn’t blame you.”
in the last year, casa’s had become a safe haven of sorts for calvin. monday through thursday and every other weekend he was there, sitting in the corner, sipping on whiskey or whatever else he fancied for the evening, and mulled over his own self-pity. he preferred to take up the corner area of the bar so that he didn’t run the risk of being bombarded by familiar faces or bridal parties sullying up to him for free drinks.
it took him a moment to realize the stranger- or maybe acquaintance, he could never recognize people after being a few drinks in- was speaking to him and not someone else. he cleared his throat and sipped at his drink again, side-eyeing the man to make sure it wasn’t someone from the aquarium or even worse, one of Aloyse’s friends.
he had to admit the background music was nice, it reminded him of his childhood and his dad putting on smooth records after dinner then pulling his mother close for a dance. he gagged at this as a child, but now he yearned for that kind of love again. there he went reminiscing.
“I’ve always been a fan of jazz. not that the free drinks aren’t a plus.” he realized now that the man he was chatting with was the musician from the stage, “your set is good.”

❛❛ DON’T MIND THE SMELL i’ve showered six times and still can’t shake the smell of grease and smoke. ❜❜ Milo smiled apologetically, fingers running through the strands of his still damp hair despite the furious attempts at towel drying his hair after finishing his shift. Their last call had been a kitchen fire, someone’s child had tried cooking their parents breakfast in bed and by the time Milo had reached the house, the breakfast in question had resembled charcoal more than it did bacon. The family made it out unscathed, the only harm done was a blow to their son’s pride — and the pieces of bacon that had been burned to a cinder — but Milo was certain he wouldn’t be stepping near another oven anytime soon. @amorestart
Calvin hadn’t even noticed the smell that was emanating off the other with a force that invaded the nostrils. The wiff of burnt eggs made a question poise on his lips right as Milo answered it and a soft smile spread across them instead.
“So long as you don’t mind my own.” Today had consisted of cleaning the otter habitat, scrubbing the rocks of feces and all, “Otter’s are cute, but their stink is deadly.”
calvin vega - 34 - separated - heterosexual - aquarist & tattoo artist - the lanes
The Skinny:
- Calvin grew up in Denver, Colorado, spending his weekends hiking, camping, and during the winter, snowboarding with friends when he could scrape together the money for it.
- His early childhood was spent in poverty and that’s led to him being a bit of a penny-pincher as an adult, living below his means and saving as much as he can.
- After spending most of his high school years playing hockey, he was awarded a scholarship to MSU Denver and went on to obtain a degree in Biological Sciences with an emphasis on Marine Life.
- It wasn’t until he got married at twenty-five that he and his wife decided to move to San Amore to escape the bustle of the city. Five years later they welcomed their daughter into the world- Fae.
- To the outside eye, this would seem picture perfect, but things fell apart in the years that followed. Calvin began to spend more late nights out and his wife turned to others for comfort while he was away. In the end, they legally separated and have been living apart for six months while sharing custody of their daughter.
- Without his wife’s income his savings began to become strained, so he picked up a side gig designing tattoos at the local shop on the weekends.
Headcanons:
- His personality is charming bordering on egotistical. He thinks highly of himself and what he’s built up in his life.
- A tad bit of an alcoholic, he can mostly be found at the local bars on the nights he doesn’t have his daughter. He’s careful to keep that aspect of himself away from her.
- Moon sign is Scorpio, sun sign is Leo
MBTI AESTHETICS: I N F J (8/?)
The INFJ personality type has an inborn sense of idealism and morality – their real passion is to get to the heart of the issue so that people need not be rescued at all. INFJs indeed share a very unique combination of traits: though soft-spoken, they have very strong opinions and will fight tirelessly for an idea they believe in. They are decisive and strong-willed, but will rarely use that energy for personal gain – INFJs will act with creativity, imagination, conviction and sensitivity not to create advantage, but to create balance.
