Aristophane's Origins of Sexuality
In the beginning, there were not two, but three genders: male, female, and androgynous. Each person had two heads, facing in opposite directions, four arms, and four legs. Now, these humans were a very ambitious lot who thought they could compete with and challenge the Olympian gods.
Zeus decided to not destroy these humans, but weaken their spirits by sending a thunderbolt to cut each human in half. Instead of competing with the gods, humans now focused all their time and energy on finding their other half.
The formerly androgynous beings sought out members of the opposite sex, while the formerly all-male and all-female beings sought out members of the same sex, all in an attempt to recapture the wholeness they had lost.
Pretty much. Miranda being amazing as usual.
Athens is named for Athena, the badass goddess of war who was born from the head of Zeus (after he swallowed her mother whole, but that's a story for another day).
Athena and her uncle Poseidon (god of the sea) were in contest for the favour of the city we all know as Athens. Athena offered the city a domestic olive tree - the fruit of which would go on to become Greece's chief export, bringing economic prosperity on the land.
Poseidon, on the other hand, gave the gift of a salt spring. So, it's no surprise that the town voted in favour of Athena. Poseidon was so pissed off that he retaliated by flooding the entire city.
Now, myth has it that Athena beat out Poseidon by one measly vote - the vote of a woman. In an attempt to appease Poseidon, the men of Athens decided to punish women and take away their right to vote, their right to pass on their names to their children, and even their right to called Athenian.
Women are credited with making Athens the favourite city of a badass, powerful goddess, yet blamed for pissing off the male god, and stripped of all their rights as a result.

Discussions about misogyny are not “adult content”.
it appears i’ve been flagged yet again, presumably by anti-feminists. i rarely had issues with it before, but ever since i openly used the word “feminist” to describe myself, i’ve had to appeal 3 or 4 videos that were taken down.
