I love your work so much. I actually let out a squee when I saw the adventure time pieces! Any advice for a beginning paper crafter, especially with those tiny details? I can't wait to see what you do in the future!
Aw thanks so much! It really means a lot :D It’s such a joy to not only share my work, but to hear that people actually like it, so thank you again! Some advice I can give is EXPERIMENT!!!! I’ve been doing this for only a short while and have no formal training as an artist, but I’ve gotten this far by experimenting on my own and studying all kinds of art, all kinds of mediums. Like, it’s great if you’re only studying Brittney Lee’s work and creating paper art that looks just like her’s (style, subject matter, and everything), but your artistic voice and identity is lost and you end up really limiting yourself. I want people to look at my work and recognize it as my own, not confuse it with someone else’s.....but, to each their own. It just kinda depends on what it is you want to accomplish with your work. Hope that helps!
My piece for the Be My Valentine exhibition at @rivetgallery opening next week ✨🌱✨
Is it Halloween yet? ✨🎃✨
I opened up the backpack and all this fun stuff was inside✨🍓✨
A tiny backpack for tiny adventures🍓
Hey there! I don't say this often because I'm pretty jaded, but I discovered your work the other day and I absolutely adore it! I've just recently started doing some cut paper animations and I was wondering what you use for adhesive? If you don't mind me asking! I use sticky tack because I need the characters to move but I wanted to start making more sculptural stuff, like yours.
Thanks so much! So wonderful to hear that! And best of luck with the stop motion animation! When proposing to my now wife a few years back, my first idea was to ask her to marry me using stop motion paper, but DEAR GOD was that difficult....so I have great appreciation for those who have the time and patience to do that sort of stuff :) As for the adhesive I use, right now it’s PVA bookbinding glue, which is great, non-acidic and everything, but what I hate about it is that is dries super glossy so anything that dries on the visible surface of my piece will show if the light is hitting it right. So I usually have to pay reeeeaaaal close attention to how much glue I’m applying and where I’m applying it. Hope that helps!
1) YOUR BLOG IS AMAZING I WANT TO CRY EVERYTHING IS SO TINY. You are a super amazing artist!!! I am blown away. This isn't really a question. 2) As a fellow cut paper artist, I was wondering -- what paper do you use? The colors are lovely! And what do you use for the "3D" effect? I mean to support the paper so some things come into foreground? 3) Is everything hand-cut? I think the answer is going to be obviously yes, but I have to ask, because it looks SO PERFECT. YOU ARE AMAZING, THANKS :)
Oh no don’t cry! Thanks so much though! Your second question is a bit tricky.......early on I got into the habit of buying just about every sort of paper I came across and lots of it. The nice thing about this medium is that, other than frames, materials are fairly cheap. Unfortunately a lot of the paper I use, I have no idea who makes them or where exactly I got them, but I suggest hitting every craft/art supply store you can because in my experience they more often than not carry very different selections. As for creating the sense of depth, I literally use whatever I can that’ll get the job done. Right now my favorite thing to use are old framing mats because 1) it’s cheap and on hand 2) they’re thick and sturdy 3) I can easily dictate how much depth I’d like for individual pieces.....long story short I use whatever scraps I can find. And finally, yes absolutely everything I do is both hand drawn and hand cut. You have no idea how happy it makes me to read that you think my cuts are perfect now I wanna cryyyyy you’re too nice
Made a tiny haunted house with lots of little fun hidden junk all over it :)

This piece was for Q Pop Shop’s “Harajuku Halloween in LA Starring Milpom” show back in October. If you don’t know what Milpom is, you should google it....basically it’s a new stop motion animated show from BN Pictures in Japan......just google it.....

This piece was done for the "Guillermo Del Toro: In Service of Monsters" tribute show at Gallery 1988's west gallery space back in September. Really wanted to do a Pacific Rim piece, but it just didn’t work out so I went with Hellboy II The Golden Army instead and got back to my roots with tiny paper weapons.
