“Franchise 3” at Gallery 1988.
“Franchise 3” is a group exhibition curated by Scott Listfield opening virtually at Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles, California today - Friday, December 4th, 2020.
Listfield says of the exhibition: “[T]he kind folks at Gallery 1988 have let me curate Franchise 3 into a large group show with around 50 fellow artists that I really admire. I will have 5 new pieces in the show myself, but I'm very excited for you to see what the other artists have done with this Franchise theme. For the last couple of weeks I've been getting sneak previews of the work coming in, and it's going to be a really fun show. It's been a real treat for me to see other artists take the reigns of this idea and do some amazing things with it. Some of the work has genuinely made me laugh out loud. Others have moved me almost to tears. Which is a weird thing to say about a bunch of artwork about burgers, pizza, and fried dough. But we're living through a real tough time right now. Largely isolated, stuck in our houses, in some cases very far from home and family. We're watching in real time another extinction of businesses and restaurants, both small and large, and it's sad to think of the places that won't still be around whenever we make it to the other side of this thing. But it has been incredibly fun and dare I say it, uplifting, to make paintings that remind me of my childhood. And it's been a great surprise to me to see what memories the other artists in this show have conjured. I really hope you'll enjoy it as well.”
