It's hard work being a student, what with those grueling three hour days and harrowing 11am starts. So it's only fair that we deserve to take some time out for ourselves and catch up on some hard earned z's. And when the car's too far away or you've only got half an hour to spare, where better to nap than your own fine campus?
The concourse is reputable for its nappers, usually strewn haphazardly across the lawn, using backpacks and shoes as a buffer between the soil and their hair. It was a beautiful day the day I gave it a go, and expected to be lulled into slumber by the warm sun, soft breeze, and cooing nature sounds. However, the closest to a coo I could discern was "What a fuckin' babe! He's covered in like skull tattoos and shit, oh, such an alternative babe!" crowed from one of the two girls smoking on the bench behind me. Clearly they hadn't read my previous post. As I sat up to exhale the second hand smoke, I was nearly trod on by an enthusiastic team of society students participating in an easter egg hunt, too busy trotting across the grass stuffing their bags and pockets with Cadbury eggs to notice the people trying to sleep on it. I saw the purple glint of an egg from the corner of my eye beside me, and before I could reach for it a girl scooped it up and placed it in her skirt. I then turned to take a bite of my lunch to find a baby magpie proudly standing with a ring of my calamari dangling from its beak. Not the best spot ever. Didn't sleep a wink.
Building 9 curtain labs (behind 9B22)
Many a night (or day) have I spent with my head on my hand, eyes closed, dreaming of rendering and aspect ratios, waiting for technology to do its thing. But not usually by choice. The curtain labs offer privacy, substantial soundproofing, and carpeted floors, and the lack of airflow is comparable to taking a desyrel. If you can deprive a media student of getting work done and snag a curtain lab, bring something soft and cozy up into a corner for some solid sleepy time.
N.B. Campus review holds no liability for accidents or inflicted violence caused by misuse of these labs.
The Refectory - Building 1
Along the back of the refectory lies a haven of long, comfy lounge suites. Though usually coffee stained and occupied by students with backpacks and laptops, if you for some unfortunate reason find yourself at uni before 9:30, these lounges are comfortable, roomy, and even come with pillows. Lie on your side and watch the flow of alumni, tradies and mature age students sipping their shitty coffees and biting into their overpriced, undercooked morning bakery treats, it's just like counting sheep.
Student Centre - Building 1
The student centre, too, is filled with luxurious long couch seats, and at the right time of day is quite quiet, if you can handle the automated woman's voice calling ticket numbers and the steady tapping of construction outside. All you need to do is take a ticket for student card enquiries, and you can be sure that your ticket won't be called for at least long enough to take a power nap, nothing suss!Â

For University of Canberra Students! -
I used to nap in the library group study rooms. There was a great couch in one of them Unfortunately there’s locks on the doors now…
I also suggest the Science Resource Center (great couches)
Many an afternoon have I spent with my head against a table on the top floor of the library. It's just so quiet and warm up there!
