(update: since the project ended I've answered a few asks etc. the original run happened in 2024)
Well, it's been about a year since this project have ended. let me explain what exactly it was and how it came to be (under the cut)
K colors: A couple of months ago I've learned about k means algorithm, which can take a broad array of data points and distil them into k categories. well, it just so happens that this algorithm also works on colors in an image. I just used RGB values as inputs, and so k colors algorithm was born.
Why CHM: this is a piece that was frequently on my mind, and it just so happens that it works well with the theme I wanted to imprint on it. also, at the similat time hitting metal 17 times got popular, which was technically a catalyst for this idea.
"the same image every day": well, as you might guess, they are not. the first image was created using 64 colors, and then every day it lost 1 color. so, I've run daily posts for around 2 months, until I've hit 0 colors, and then there was nothing left to do.
"it's not the same image?": to be honest, the change between 64 and 63 colors is basically not noticeable. in the few last images the damage is clearly visible, but in reality the image has been deteriorating since the very beginning. huh, I wonder what this could mean?
Impact: as you might guess, the whole project haven't seen that much popularity. I'm not surprised, and I'm also not that sad about it. it was still a lot of fun to do, even though almost no one saw the entire process. though, funnily enough, one of the posts from the middle of the run is still being reblogged even today.
