Sora's Sacrifice
"What?—Um.." He was taken aback a little. When it came to that word, he had always associated it with two people. Sora, Namine, and others were his friends of course, but consciously referring to them as the word never crossed. Friend had always been ice cream at the clocktower after a long day of missions.
"I guess we could do that first.." His voice quieted, sounding sheepish.
Kairi laughed and tugged lightly on one of the boy's dirty blonde spikes, chastising him without really commenting on his obvious surprise. Roxas was her friend, just as much as Sora and Riku and even Naminé were! She'd never thought of him as anything different.
Of course, she didn't expect him to think the same of her. He was probably still getting used to the redhead but, maybe because of his connection to Sora, Kairi felt like she'd always known him.
"Yeah, I guess!" she said, jokingly mocking him.
"Only problem is... I've never exactly unglued someone's hands before."
/whispering/ "Sora's buying Splash Mountain for all of us."
"The whole thing? Cool!”
"Ugh fine. What is it?”
"That's the spirit!"
"You know those inflatable swimming pools? I need one of those! A really big one!"
"Thanks, but isn’t the thing you were going to make important too?"
"Roxas, your hands are glued together."
"What kind of friend would I be if I just left you here?"
"I… I don’t know, actually. I have some feathers from the arts and crafts store." If only I could open my front door.
"That's great, but..."
"I really... think we should focus on fixing your situation. Somehow."
He eyed her briefly from the corner of his eye before smiling. “Okay well — Twilight Town’s pretty small. Probably wouldn’t even take two hours to see the whole place. Unless we go to Sunset Hill — uh but we can save that for later if you want.” He shrugged as they turned the corner into The Sandlot. “This is probably where you ran into Seifer and his lackies.” Hayner didn’t see him though so it’d be a quick pass. Good. “And over that way — he pointed in the direction they were walking — “Is the Market Place.”
"I've got all day!"
"If you're willing to take me there, I'm willing to see it! That is, if you really don't mind being around me for hours."
Kairi laughed, twirling a lock of red hair around her finger as they entered The Sandlot. Now that Hayner mentioned it, it did look familiar. "Yeah, I think this was the place. Seifer was alone though!" Not that that had made a difference. He was plenty intimidating on his own, and Kairi didn't scare easily. Still, she did like the feel of Twilight Town. Compared to the Islands, it was... calmer? So far, anyway.
"I have some super glue but uh.."
/reveals hands super glued together
"Roxas, how?"
"Who's willing to get me some super glue and a bunch of feathers without asking questions?"
"Yeah — No problem. Leave it to me."
Hayner began walking, waiting for Kairi to catch up before continuing. “Ok so wait. How long are you staying here for?” he inquired as they walked.
Kairi nodded happily, and quickly jogged a little so she could catch up to her new tour guide. She clasped her hands behind her back as she walked beside him.
"Hmm, I'm just here for the day, I guess!"
"I mean, I wasn't planning on staying too long...."
"Absolutely," the blonde replied cheerfully.
As the both of them set off in the direction of the coordinates, Naminé decided to start a conversation.
"I haven’t been here for very long. In truth I’m not sure how long I’m going to stay." The other girl was younger than her, she still looked like she could attend high school. What an enviable experience. "But I need something to keep me entertained, and exploration helps."
She threw her ombre hair over her shoulder, thinking about the shell the other had produced. “You know, I’ve never seen a seashell like that one before. Did you just find it?”
Bright eyes watched the sunset change colours, running over the spectrum with ease, “This place is so beautiful. Do you live around here?”
"Terrific!"
Kairi cheerfully walked alongside the girl, her happiness evident in every step that she took. Finally, some excitement! And with someone completely new, no less! The day couldn't get any more perfect. The redhead listened as the older girl made small talk, nodding.
"Well, you should stay for as long as you can!" she said, absentmindedly running her fingers over the smooth surface of the pink shell she still held. Kairi truly loved it here. She couldn't think of anywhere she'd rather live. At the mention of the shell, Kairi looked back down at it. "No, I found it the other day. Super pretty, though, huh?"
She ran thin fingers through her dark red hair, blue eyes glancing at the blonde.
"Yeah, I've lived here since I was 5! I love it."
"I just realized, I haven't introduced myself! My name's Kairi."

"Crap — S-sorry! You’re right. Maybe I should give you a tour too huh?"
"If you had the time, that'd be great!"
how could i resist
She motioned for the other girl to follow her, feeling weird to be in contact with a female close to her age for the first time in a while. But she wished for an adventure, and an adventure she would provide.
"I have an app on my phone. It shows the geological location of caches, little boxed filled with treasure. We’re meant to find one, collect whatever’s inside, and replace it with something else."
Naminé flashed the phone so the girl could see they were twenty meters from the next treasure chest. “You don’t have any weird nicknacks on you, do you?” The blonde laughed goodheartedly, “The first time I found one of the treasure boxes I replaced the mechanical pencil inside with a lightbulb I’d found earlier.”
Kairi nodded as she listened, eyes wide with interest. It was sort of funny, actually; as a kid, she'd always dream of finding real treasure, gold coins and rubies and sapphires. And she'd thought she'd find that on the beach but, unfortunately, the most she ever found was broken glass, the occasional starfish, and shark teeth. Not exactly treasure, but it was better than nothing. What this stranger was offering still wouldn't lead her to real treasure but, still, who was she to turn it down? An adventure was an adventure, and treasure was treasure.
At the girl's question, Kairi reached into the black bag she kept belted around her waist. She rummaged through it, her auburn hair hanging in her face. She didn't have a whole lot in there, because she typically didn't need much. But now that she needed something at least slightly interesting, she wished she was one of those girls that carried around all of their possessions.
She did find something, though, and she lifted her head to smile at the girl and held out her hand. In her palm was a small pink seashell she'd found a few days ago.
"I have this!"
"Would this work?"
"Oh — Seifer. Pft. Yeah so he says. All the time. Anyway — you should have swung by! I’m sure everyone else would have said hi. Everyone was really worried…”
"I definitely would have if I... hadn't gotten lost."
"It was my first time really being in Twilight Town, you know? When I met you guys, I was really only in that little room. I didn't know what to look for."
"She apparently just moved into Twilight Town. Huh. Well — she seems nice."
"You and Sora ever comin’ back to visit?"
"Naminé's super sweet. You're lucky to know her."
"I actually visited not too long ago! I met this guy... I can't remember his name, but he called himself the leader of some committee?"
