In 1900 Albus curled up on the floor of a St Mungos secured room, having given up on life and felt quite ready to die. It wasnât his time yet, although he couldâve sworn he caught a glimpse of a young woman wearing an ankh necklace smiling comfortingly at him.
In 1901 Albus found himself again longing for death, unable to cope with his newfound freedom yet inability to control his own magic, let alone his more lucid moments. He found himself sitting on a bench outside his dear friendâs house in the garden, feeling the ice cold rain freeze him to the bone. It wasnât his time then either, but he couldâve sworn there was that same young woman looking understanding yet sad, as if he reminded her of someone.
In 1906 an alchemy experiment went horrifically wrong. All his works and plans destined for defeat and obscurity. His brilliant mind cut short and his heart stopped its last beat as he considered his last thought, fearing yet longing to see his long dead parents and sister again. It was his time. She is supposed to be there, to hold his hand comfortingly at last as they made their way to the Sunless lands.
Death did not come to collect him. He didnât see a single glimpse of her face until one day a week later she sat down across from him while he drank his tea, wherein she told him she had no desire to take him away and would rather meet up once a week for tea and goodies. Iâll find you, no need to fret she had remarked.
116 years later and he hadnât aged a day. He suffered other accidents and injuries and swiftly recovered. Had learned to âageâ himself as if he was still a mortal until he could fake his death properly. Albus had met other immortals and realized he was a little special in that Death specifically chose him for herself as a friend and companion rather than a brother she felt she needed to care for or a charge whom needed her path as much as she needed their humanity.

đ€THE WARMTH OF THE WATER helped remove the coldness that the London morning had caused on him. He felt liberated of the stiffness of his wet cold clothes. Under the steam of the shower his muscles relaxed and flexed until they started to feel better. Morpheus closed his eyes and let out a soft groan of pleasure. That moment was the best part of his day so far. Though he realized he would have to ask for clothes to his unexpected host, considering his own were still wet and cold.
With this thought in mind, he turned off the shower, and dried his body. The towel was wide - and long enough - for him to wrap it around his waist, as he made his way outside of the bathroom, trying to find Al. But what hit his attention was the smell of food, he remembered that smell⊠he almost could taste the salad in his lips. However that memory seemed nothing but a dream. âAlâŠâ He called out. âCan I borrow some of your clothes? Mine are still cold and wet from the dew of the morning.â
From the dew of the morning. His new acquaintance was more and more of a difficult puzzle every time he thought he found pieces that fit. Albus knew no one who talked like thatâŠsave for himself at times and a few older members of the community.
âHelp yourself,â he called back to him. âJust not the stuff in the wardrobe, yeah? Dresser clothes only, please.â Albus didnât know who or what this enigma was, but regardless it was better safe than sorry to keep him digging too much into the few wizarding robes he had left in the back of that thing.

đ€NODDING HIS HEAD MORPHEUS THANKED the man and made his direction towards the upper floor where the bathroom seemed to be. Upon climbing the stairs, he looked around finding the bedroom first. He felt out of place intruding in the room, even though his curiosity was guided him there. The room felt nice and incredibly like Al. Smiling to himself, after hearing the caw-caw of the raven, he waved at the creature and departed the bedroom.
Back to the hallway, Morpheus walked towards the bathroom without another stop. He made it inside, turned on the light and looked at himself in the mirror. He couldnât recognize his face, couldnât remember who he was - who he truly was - but he was aware there was more to him. Grey eyes returned his gaze as he undressed. Once he was completely bare, he stepped into the shower, the hot water gracing his skin. It made him close his eyes in pleasure.
The bedroom was small yet cozy, walls covered with bookshelves that overflowed with books, parchment, bound journals, etc. The bed had a soft dark purple comforter on it with silver and gold stars that seemed to twinkle if you looked too hard. On a few of the shorter bookshelves were some statues and instruments that defied no magical description.
While Morpheus was snooping and showering, Albus put together a simple salad with a light dressing made from olive oil, fresh rosemary, and the lightest bit of balsamic vinegar to add a slight tang. Next he started on the omelette using a recipe his friend Nick gave him.

đ€HIS MIND WORKED QUICKLY FOR ONCE that day to create a map of the rooms that Al was describing. Anyone who may have not been paying enough attention would have probably gotten lost in the house or in thoughts. For some reason - unknown to him - he managed to picture the house exactly as how Al mentioned it. âI will be back in some minutes.â He offered - showering wouldnât take long.
Matthew looked between the two once more, but specially looked at Al, it seemed that he was trying to find out if the man was to be trusted or not. After making up his mind, the bird flew away. Morpheus on the other hand, stood up and frowned as he was asked what he wanted to eat. Almost in autopilot he answered. âAn omelette, a light salad, and a glass of white wine⊠if possible.â
This stranger was found to be curiouser and curiouser to Albus. The lack of most all memories yet clear and present knowledge of what was going on, the distinctly not muggle name yet not a wizard either, the raven who seemed even more aware than ravens usually are, the oddly specific food requestâŠ
Grinning, Albus answered, âIâll do my best,â you beautiful and fascinating nutter wasnât uttered but definitely thought. âTowels are in the cabinet to the left of the shower. One omelette with a light salad and white wine will be whipped up in a jiffy.â

đ€HE WASNâT SURE WHERE ALL THAT FLIRTING was going to go - probably nowhere except some amusement, and that was fine with him. Romance didnât seem to be something that motivated him. Right now his desires focused elsewhere, but apparently there was a longing for something else. Yet, he wasnât looking for anything important.
âKeep that up and maybe I will end up blushing in your shower.â He decided smirking. But he was content with the decision of being joined in his adventure. âIâm not quite sure which itâs his deal with me. I never had a pet before.â He shrugged his shoulders. The raven in question seemed to hop inside the kitchen and look between both Al and himself. âI think I will shower first, show me around?â
âFairly straight forward,â Albus started. âWeâre in the kitchen, obviously. Up the stairs and to the left is my room, up those same stairs and to the right is the living room, and down the hall from both rooms is a study on the left and the bathroom on the right.â
He looked from the raven to Morpheus and back, determining that thereâs something going on but he didnât know what yet. Perhaps he wasnât meant to know. âIâm going to quickly lock the shop part up, feel free to help yourself to the shower. I know your memory is a little wonky at the moment, but do you recall if there are any foods you do or donât like? Allergies so I donât accidentally kill you via innocent food?â

đ€HE CAUGHT THE SCONE AS SOON as it flew in his direction and gave a bite to it, before laughing. âItâs good to know others have been attempting at that before me.â He shook his head still amused by the otherâs reaction. âI could have gone for a loaf of bread, but lemon seemed to have captured my attention.â For what reason he didnât know, but figured it was not important. Things like these happened.
Leaving the rest of the scone on the counter, he shook the hand of Al. Al - that was a nice name, a nickname he figured but didnât know of what yet. It could be Alfred, it could be Alan⊠there were many possibilities. âA wise woman your mother.â He smiled. âMorpheus⊠thatâs my name.â That was exactly all he remembered as well. âSo Al, will you close earlier for me, and join me on an adventure?â In that moment he heard the tell tale of a visitor that has been following him ever since he woke up. The caw-caw of a raven, that made him close his eyes in annoyance. âIâve been followed by that one all morning.â
Closing early, Albus mused, wasnât the worst thing he could do that day. Especially with such an interesting person to close up shop for. He ran a hand through his auburn curls, then shrugged and took his apron off. After a few years out of the wizarding world, adventure was in short supply in his life.
âA great name for a lovely man. Sure, Iâll go on an adventure with you and your ïżŒraven stalker,â Albus teased, tossing the apron over a hook behind the counter. âBut first you should eat something, and maybe have that shower. Whatever happened to you mustâve done a number on you, huh?â

đ€HELPING OTHERS WAS NOT HIS PLAN FOR THE DAY though he could argue he had anything planned. He was trying to find experiences, or it was his biggest motivation, for some reason. His mind only focused in two things, the desire that he seemed to have wrapped in his heart for adventure, and that black empty void that the back of his mind seemed to be. A door he couldnât find the key to open.
âArenât you worried I steal more from you? Now you invite me over to take a shower in your own bathroom.â He pointed out with an easy smile on his lips. âYou will have to show me around though.â Morpheus decided. âBut first I need to know your name. Canât go out with someone whose name itâs a mistery to me.â He was boldly inviting him to join him on his explorations.
He laughed and tossed him a scone. âYouâre not the first would be thief in my shop, although certainly one of the most pleasant looking. No one steals a loaf of bread without actually needing it, or in this case attempts to steal a muffin.â
Albus leveled him another calculating glance, albeit this time not bothering to try looking into his mind. After a brief moment of this, he smiled and held out his hand for the other to shake. âAl, my nameâs Al. How about you? My mum always told me not to wander off with hot blokes without knowing their names firstâŠnot thatâs that stopped me once or twice.â

đ€IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT HE HAD judged him as well without even knowing him, which was why Morpheus decided to just drop the subject. He had seen first hand the way people behaved towards those in the streets, and wondered if society had lost its way. Deep down it was something that would stay with him, but not something he could change. In answer he just nodded once towards the man.
âHungry, cold⊠and may be in the need of a shower.â He said shrugging his shoulders as he followed the other around towards the back of the bakery. âI donât⊠I donât exactly have a place where to go to.â Morpheus explained his situation. âNot that I want to go somewhere, especifically. I just⊠I want to explore everything.â Perhaps he shouldnât be saying this, but he wanted someone to join him in this adventure. âAt what time do you close?â
The subject was a sore one for Albus, and so he was grateful for the other deciding to drop it. The world could be a cold hard place, unforgiving and cruel in its workings. Albus just wanted to run his pastry shop and help random people, apparently.
âI live upstairs, you can borrow my shower for a bit while I put something together for real food,â Albus offered freely with a soft smile. âMy shop closes at around six, youâre free to come back after hours though once youâre doneâŠexploring. Are you a tourist or some sort?â

đ€âI HAVE SEEN HOW PEOPLE GETS TREATED.â Morpheus said then, placing the muffin back on the counter where he took it from. He felt his hands dirty from the action of stealing. It was not on him, and certainly it wasnât who he was. He should have asked first instead, but now there was nothing he could do about it. âMoney seems to be more important than anything else. If you donât belong to a certain class then youâre less than human.â
At the implication, Morpheus looked away. Yes, he had a reason as of why he didnât have money, and he didnât know that reason at all. But it made him look embarrassed of even saying it. âI woke up this morning with nothing but my clothes⊠in the streets.â He offered. âAn old lady told me⊠that it was always overwhelming the first time⊠but Iâm not quite sure what she meant by that. I think she knows me though⊠from a past life perhaps.â He snorted.
âI certainly know how that goes,â he replied quietly yet somewhat bitterly. Many of his classmates were classist and blood purists, and he certainly didnât miss the wizarding world because of it. The muggle world was fraught with these same issues as well, but he benefited from a lack of the usual gossip about his father and family tragedies here.
So perhaps not a wizard, but definitely someone not muggle. Where that leadsâŠAlbus had no idea. âSounds like youâve had a rather rough morning, no wonder youâre hungry. Come âround back, Iâll make you something a little more substantial than a muffin,â he offered.

đ€QUICK TO JUDGE HE FIGURED as lips pursed in both disbelief and anger towards the accusation. If he had the means he wouldnât have had the need to resort to sticky fingers - as the man had mentioned. âHunger, perhaps.â He said looking at the muffin in his hand. Though now for some reason that he couldnât quite tell, his stomach had closed itself to the idea of eating. Given the circumstances of his encounter with this piece of food. He should have asked instead.
âAre you always this quick to judge people only because of the way they look or itâs just me?â He couldnât help the bitterness of his words like snakeâs poison. After all it wasnât the first time humanity had treated him wrong, even Morpheus - an Endless without memories of who he was - knew to be weary of people. âFirst I am cute and then I look too rich to be poor⊠havenât you learn a thing or two about not judging a book by its cover?â
Albus blinked a little, surprised at the sudden hostility. They went from flirting innocently to Albus being accused of being judge mental. He leveled a calculating look at him, then didnât react when he found himself unable to look inside his mind. Whoever this man was, he wasnât just some random muggle.
His spine stiffened, and he raised an eyebrow at him. âAnd are you quick to judge as well, to immediately react to continued flirtations with suspicion and assume the worst about a person?â he asked back. âButâŠperhaps you have a reason for not having this areaâs money.â
@capaciousllextremisâ cheating on Gellert sent this to an Endless, the audacy!;
â youâre lucky that youâre cute. â
đ€HE HADNâT MEANT TO STEAL ONE OF THOSE LEMON pastries if he was honest with himself, but he got caught. The problem was that Morpheus didnât have any money on himself - consquences of being otherworldly. Even with this day planned in the Dreaming, it always escaped Lucienne or himself, for that matter, that his human body required what his Endless form didnât. Food, water, warmth.
So he had been walking by - and sneaking into a bakery - tempted by the delicious smell of lemon. Not that it was his favorite, but he did liked the warmth and the smell was inviting. He had taken one of the pastries when the owner - or so he figured, of the bakery caught him off guard. Morpheus couldnât help the smirk on his lips at the words from the man. âYouâre not too bad yourself, mister.â Morpheus said innocently, even when he had the stolen object in his hand.
Albus tilted his head at the raven-haired guy in front of him, arms crossed and an ill-disguised smile on his face. He didnât look like someone lacking in the money to buy a simple lemon poppyseed muffin. Then again, Albus himself in his own bakery didnât look like heâd be a wizard of extraordinarily magnificent power and intellect, so who was he to judge?
âAny particular reason why youâre helping yourself to my baked goods? You donât exactly look like someone who would need to resort to sticky fingers.â Albus asked, leaning against his counter. âFeel free to have it, by the way. Like I said, youâre lucky that youâre cute.â
Iâm alive I swear Iâve just been busy and tired
capaciousllextremis·:
đźAS HE SAT DOWN IT WAS EVIDENT TO HIM that Albus was truly annoyed by something that it escaped him. He was being sincere with his worries and wanted to help his husband to feel better. Despite not wanting to talk about his cause and how things have escalated as of late, he knew it was a subject that Albus would bring up no matter what. He couldnât help himself, he couldnât separate what they had from his movement. And rightfully so, as Grindelwald himself had troubles doing such.
The voices in his mind prompted Gellert to move his head to a side as he paid attention to the words. He didnât answer such, but raised his walls to protect his mind even more so. Albus was a skilled legilimens but he was rather good keeping him out of his head. The walls he had created were unbreakable and yet it seduced a legilimens to try and peek. What they would see however were faux thoughts, not his own.
As Albus finally told him what was bothering him, Gellert nodded his head. âSeems youâve a lot in your mind right now. I can always lighten some of those thoughts.â By removing them from his mind. âBut Iâm certain you wouldnât prefer such action.â Gellert continued unmoved and unaffected from his position. âYou keep claiming I donât have time for you, but it was me who asked you to come this weekend. Itâs always me who calls upon you to meet. So how is that I donât give you enough time?â He paused. âHowever, that doesnât answer your initial accusation about your culpability.â
His thoughts and emotions raged like the storm outside, and long ago there was once a time when those same emotions would rage around him in flurries of destructive magic, but Albus was an adult now who had to learn and then relearn control the hard way. As much as he wanted telekinetically throw objects at his husband right thenâŠhe had to have a cooler head.
At any rate, the moment he succumbed to emotional outbursts (even the regular kind) was usually when Gellert had the upper hand, which Albus hated with a burning passion.
âI know what you mean by lightening my thoughts and the very idea sounds vulgar,â he countered calmly. âOur thoughts and emotions are what make us human, as painful as that may be sometimes.â He drew in a deep breath. âYou tell me to come, I rearrange my schedule and life to come. You take little sneak trips to Hogwarts and I accommodate accordingly. It is always you calling for these visits, because I rarely ever know when your cause will finally allow you a moment away.â As for his earlier words regarding how everything was his fault, if Gellert wanted him to spell it out heâd have a long wait ahead of him.
