“There is a big possibility that it wouldn’t really take off from the ground, Shafiq. Unless you charm it, that is.”

Em was in a mood to forget. To forget everything - her name, her parents, that damn smirk on Zita Goldstein’s face when she’d won the Harpies games. Everything.Â
Without anyone familiar, she at first felt slightly lonely, but after several drinks everyone was her friend. There were no boundaries, no strangers, no bad dance moves. All that mattered was the pounding of the music and the swirling lights. Her body moved as if in a dream, in fact, everything was a dream. Well, until someone very frustratingly crashed into her.Â
Em turned around and the dream should have come crashing down around her, but instead it intensified. There stood Zita Goldstein and her smirk. That smirk that infuriated Em beyond belief. But it wasn’t infuriating right now, at least not in a way that made her angry. It fascinated her, drew her in like a moth to a light.
“Hey yourself,” she said, returning the smirk.Â
Biting her own lip, the brunette smirked. Blue eyes glazed, partly because of the alcohol in her system and mostly because of the object that beckoned her desires. In this little bubble, there was nothing stopping Zita. There were no cameras, no press and no inhibitions. It was just her and it was just Em.
So, the girl reached for the other’s hand. It was a soft gesture, her wish to lead her to the dance floor. Her cheeks were ablaze, and the beat was flowing in sync to her heartbeat.
“Join me..”
“Cris likes a little makeup now and then, so I guess I can understand the vanity. Fair earned, I’ll give you that. If you don’t look like a sweating tomato after practice normally anyway, you’re not working hard enough, y’feel? Photographers seem to forget how hard we work.”
“They really do. I remember reading this headline, and then it hurt so much. Like, you never really get used to the attention. And the scrutiny. I sometimes forget that everyone’s watching us, and it’s scary...”
“Fair point. You can never go wrong with a bit of a splurge, after all. Is MAC your usual brand, or have you tested out others? With a complexion as fair as yours, I’d bet you can pick up shades anywhere.”
“I’m dipping fingers into this whole makeup thing. Honestly, bless Angel and his advice.” Zita took a moment to gush about her team mate’s keen eyes and experience. “You’d wish. Like, if I don’t apply the right shade, I could look like a pale reflecting pole, or like a really bad tanning job. It’s a hunt, and Quidditch is way easier.”
“My sentiments exactly.”
“I was so glad to have left Beauxbatons when I did. It was too stifling for my flow. How bleak did it become after I left?”
“Wait, muggle make up?”
“Yuck, why?”
“Adventure is a spice of life. It’s always good to look around for alternatives. Like brooms, if you must compare.”
“Yeah? And I have plenty of skill to back it up.”
“See? I’m glad we’re both on the same page.”
“You shouldn’t feel cheated. Anyone else would charge you the same. Or is my time not valuable to you?”
“That is not what I meant, Beau. I thought we were on friendly terms...never mind, I’ll take it.”
“Well that is certainly good to know,” Dani said, grinning, “Oh, I like that. Sometimes I do something similar with my chocolate frog cards. Shuffle them and then reorder them. Do you have a favorite flavor?”
“I have always disliked them. I don’t know why, it always felt sad to bite their heads off. Well...I do like the hot chilli flavour, always makes my ears steam, woo! And there’s the berry flavours, which I have a weakness for. And it’s probably because I’m used to it, but the earwax flavour just grows on you after a few years of mistaking it for gooseberry flavour.”

“Wow. Okay. Be that way then.”
“Why be a sore puppy, James? I’m just saying, luck has very little to do with winning.”
“You definitely sound like you’re ready and from what I’ve heard from your players, they’re very prepared. As a beater specifically, or just personally, do you have any special rituals before the match begins?”
“Let it be known, that Beaters don’t beat someone up before a match for powers. I don’t why that even became a rumor, really.” Zita laughed, leaning back. “I...well, I do this strange thing where I sort all the flavours in the small box of Bertie’s Jelly Beans. It helps me calm down, I don’t know why...”
“Of course, I can do that. It’ll take maybe half an hour, at the most. Fifteen minutes at the least.”
“Polishing is 20 galleons. Trim is 10. Balance is 15. So that makes your total about 50 galleons, if I were to include time.”
“I’m not one to bargain, but I feel cheated. I’ll pay, but I’ll grumble a lot.”
“Madame Arnaud would applaud you.”
“Madame Arnaud can go shove her applause up her...” Zita coughed, covering all her expletives. “Well, at least I learned how to paint my face like she usually instructed. That sexist cow...”
“Wait you did what?”
“I’m lost.”
“I bought make up, Shafiq. To put on my face. Nothing confusing about it.”
“The one everyone wants to be? Yeah.”
“I have no idea, really. I just feel like a loser who bought herself some crayons to feel happy again.”
“… Is that some Muggle makeup thing? Haven’t you ever heard of a glamour charm? I swear to god, Goldstein, you’d think you weren’t a witch at all with that nonsense. We’re better than that.”
“Besides, have you looked in a mirror recently? You’re fucking sexy without that nonsense. I sincerely doubt a girl like you needs even a little glamour charm to draw attention, really. You drew mine, and the world knows how difficult that is.”
“A glamour charm only stays for so long, Travers. But this setting powder? Probably forever. And I’d like to keep this look intact; I didn’t jab my eye this morning for nothing. Besides, haven’t all the naysayers seen me on a broom? I don’t even know why it’s a question.”
“Hey, hey now Travers don’t sell yourself short. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder and whatnot, and honestly...I don’t need eyes to admire what I do for myself. Sometimes, a girl’s gotta look pretty for herself.”
