Hello friends,

Imagine life of a paralytic patient..... Struggle at every point of life....They live an extraordinary life, depending on others for even smallest of there daily chores. They , like you and me, cannot walk, run, dance and enjoy those beautiful moments of fun and joy, which we cherish for the rest of the life. As a small contribution towards making there life comfortable, we , a team of five electrical engineering students have developed a low cost smart automated wheelchair, specifically to paralytic patients in developing countries like India. Friends, this is the first time we feel proud and great that we were able to apply our knowledge for constructive change in the world and making it a better place to live!

Hello ENS Friends,

Today I had a chance to watch the video of Nick Vujicic on TED Talks. Nick is an extraordinary human being from Australia, as he is not gifted with four limbs as we are. He accepted this as bitter challenge of life and survived to become one of the most influential motivational speaker that the world has seen. In this podcast, he tells how he had to endure differential treatment from other people, who either ridiculed him or showed great sympathy towards him. He also describes how he tried to commit suicide at a very young age and how a ray of hope and love for his parents made him live again.

Nick tells about how we people complain about our lives and waste time in trying to find perfect skills, resources and opportunities in our life.He says that a persons value is not dependent on physical appearances or his wealth, but on what are his actions. He preaches the power of hope and its miracle. With a short and motivating statement ‘If you miracle doesnt happen to you, you can make one..’, he tends his great speech.

Your goal in answering this question is to show the interviewer that you had good

reasons for leaving your last job - your previous position. You want to minimize

any problems that you had; that is you don’t want them to think that you were a

bad employee or that your old boss hated you. That would not be a good reason

for leaving your job because it may indicate to them that you will not be a good

worker for them. So, the important point here is to look for the positive reasons

for you wanting to leave your job right now and look for a new job.

One thing that you can continue to improve your speaking is to continue to focus on your pronunciation. Specifically, you can focus in improving your pronunciation of words beginning with the letter W (ex. worker). Listen to your podcast again, and you will notice that W often sounds more like V.

How fast can you solve a Rubik’s cube? The world record for a human is 5.55 seconds, set by Mats Valk in 2013. The world record for a non-human solving a physical cube is 3.25 seconds, set by CubeStormer III, a robot built using Lego Mindstorms and a Samsung Galaxy S4, according to Wikipedia. But the question also has some mathematical relevance. Just how many moves does it take to solve any Rubik’s cube?

A group of researchers dubbed this “God’s number”, alluding to the idea that an omniscient being would use the most efficient method possible. Using what they call about 35 CPU-years of processing power donated by Google, and a bag of mathethetical tricks to reduce the number of positions they had to solve using symmetry to rule out positions that are, mathematically, the same, they determined in 2010 that God’s number is 20.

Seen above, from a variety of angles, is one of the estimated half-billion or so positions of the cube that require at least 20 moves to solve. That is out of 43,252,003,274,489,856,000 possible positions of the cube.

outstanding” - they’ve been excellent - “and are the best” in “the market. I want

to work in a company where I can be challenged and where I can make a

contribution.” Here is the reason why she wants to work in this company. She

says they’re a good company, and she wants to work in a company she “can be

challenged.” To be challenged means that someone gives you a problem that

you can solve. Someone gives you something difficult or interesting to do, that’s

a challenge. So, she’s saying that she likes to be challenged and she wants to

"make a contribution." A contribution "contribution," is something that you give to

someone else. It’s something positive that you are able to give, usually, a

company or an organization. In this case, she says she wants to “make a

contribution” to the company - she wants to help the company do what they do.

Here is one tip for how you can improve your speaking:

Focus on the pronunciation of the letters TH, especially when they occur in the middle of a word (someTHing). Listen to your recording again, you will notice that TH often sounds like S. So, you can focus on improving this specific skill!

Importance of Habit of never giving up

Hello ENS friends,

Today I would like to share ideas about never giving up in your life. Since childhood we are hearing the phrases like 'Never give up' or 'try try but dont cry' and similar ones. But do they hold significant in our day today life?. Well different people may have different views. People who accept failure as a natural and first step towards their goal, never quit. But people who are doubtful and depend too much on what other people say, believe that they deserve everything what they desire. So they become victims of depression, anxiety and ego. Hence its important that failure should be accepted positively and learning from it empowers oneself to prevent his or her mistakes to happen in future.

Same goes with English. Many of us feel extremely shy and awkward to express in English. Even I felt it initially. Key to improvement is coming out of our comfort zone and daring to speak with whomever we meet in whatever broken English we could. Only then we will feel confident about the language. If we work in team, then its sure that one day our collective efforts will bear fruit and we would master English language.

The thing that she learned, in part, was “to formulate new ideas.” To formulate,

"formulate," means to come up with - to think of - to invent new ideas. So, she

says she “learned how to formulate new ideas and how to communicate those”

or tell those “effectively to the rest of the development team.” Effectively,

"effectively," means the same as quickly and thoroughly - to do something with

the most amount of efficiency.

These are two personal characteristics that she has that are related to

the job. Then, she’s going to tell us how she used those personal characteristics

or why those personal characteristics were important in the jobs that she’s

already done. She’s still talking about her one-year internship at Lotadoe

Industries. She says, “I’m a very focused person.” To be focused, “focused,”

means to have a very clear idea about what you are doing - to have very good

concentration on whatever it is that you are doing. That’s a definite positive

personal quality; “I’m very focused” - I can ignore everything around me and do

my job effectively.

About Theory of everything

Hello friends,

It was a great Sunday and I had a chance to read about movie review of the movie 'Theory of Everything' in the entertainment segment of the newspaper. Its a biopic based on the life of theoretical astro physicist Stephen Hawkings and his ex-wife Janes. It describes his early life before he was contracted with paralysis disease.It also depicts the hardships Jane had to go through to make up with her husband.

A friend of mine is actually a hardcore physicist so I have been knowing about Hawkings since my childhood from him. So I will be looking forward to see this movie next weekend. It will be a good movie I think, and interested ENS people can too watch this and then we can have a discussion on it

Great work ! English is necessary for scientific research that's absolutely right. Only one suggestion from me,use 'took great efforts' instead of 'conducted a lot of personal efforts', it sounds grammatically correct.

Something I’d say that you could practice a little more is punctiation, Yunghua… You used too many sentences for a text that you could have used fewer. If you use fewer senteces and can say what you want to say in a single and fluid sentece, your text gains in fluency, I believe. When you keep putting small setences and too many full stops your text will surely become boring. I would suggest that you could use more linking prepositions, like “so”. LOOK:

“I worked with a team that was developing a new version of a piece of popular software called Rototype, SO, I asked to be part of every step of THE software DEVELOPPING.”

There are there two last words missing (THE and DEVELOPPING) for making your text coherent and grammatically correct. Both sentences are very connected to each other, there is no necessity of full stop and starting a new sentence. It’s actually, in my opinion, advisable for you to have a single sentece with the use of “SO”. It’s more comfortable to read.

Hello friends,

It feels great to be connected back to the ENS community. I was unable to access internet in between. Today, I had a conversation with Mr.Jeff and Anton form Russia. As a part of my strategies to improve English, I have been reading newspaper daily and I will try to post podcasts of my personal views on international news and new vocabulary words.Talking with Mr. Jeff was really motivating. Anton, from Russia is a self-employed web developer and we had a great conversation. He shared his different methods of English improvement with me. I feel more enthusiastic and confident for improving English here.
