Mon appart' in Oslo

I'm a french architect and lighting designer, living in Oslo. I love renovation, interior design and of course architecture. In the last 5 years I lived in Oslo I already bought, renovated one appartement. Last summer, on a pretty spontaneous kick I decided to sell it and start again for better and longer. I realized that all my research could actually be interesting for others; at least for my friends and family. So here I am trying out tumblr.

I’m starting to see the end of the project. Having people over for new years eve helped the motivation to get things done. The pictures are showing the hallway ceiling and lighting. The problem is that I only have 60 square meter…and when you work with lighting and architecture you get so many ideas that you cannot always use at work but so desperately want to try…. so I squeeze as much of them i can in my tiny place! The appartement had this beautiful brick wall originally. I wanted to show it. The lighting designer book says that you should use integrated wallwasher from the ceiling….but the young designer wallet said otherwise…so I started thinking that pendants hanging at the right distance would work the same. And could be pretty nice. Then I saw these perfect integrated baldaquin somewhere on pinterest and decided I had to try that! And yes they cost a lot, but still less that if I had to settle for Erco wallwashers….and they are fairly easy to install as long you have a wooden layer under the plaster board. On the other side I also very much wanted to lit up the curtains around the entrance closet with white light to give a feeling of bigger when you come in and daylight. To give more effect I doubled the white coton curtains with white tulle,it catches the light perfectly and gives a cloudy effect. While I’m using halogen light to enhance the brick wall I’m using led stripe of 4000 kelvin. In order to don’t have a too big crash of color temperature , I thought I had to have pendants only oriented towards the brick wall. And while Menu produced a perfect lamp last year for it, my wallet didn’t get bigger so I started to look for side mirror light bulb and found out it existed….they will last only 2000 hours. But it makes time for finding a Led bulb that do the same. I think they are pretty stunning, I could have done without the patterny reflection on the ceiling, but OK. And the most important: pendants and led stripe are not connected together. They are both fully dimmable separately. It gives me so many possibilities in a tiny hallway….

Change of color in the guest room....we didn't manage to get use to the darker peach/salmon/pinkish....so less bold I got....now it is beige/salmon pinkish orangish.... Changement de couleur dans la chambre d'amis. Nous ne parvenions pas à nous habituer au saumon foncé!

Today I fixed the high bed that was threatening to collapse and fixed myself a night stand with led light...pretty happy about it. Comfort is slowly coming.... Aujourd'hui j'ai réparé le lit et dans le même temps me suis arrangée une petite table de nuit avec réglette lumineuse....très contente! Le confort s'approche à petits pas

Just finished the final touch of joint on the kitchen tiling.

The windows of the living-room are finally painted. The lamps are in. I want to do some painted details in gold, on the side to create a small play of light. But, we tried first by hand and it was not very easy...so I'll order stencils. 

 Les fenêtres du salon sont enfin peintes. Les lampes sont montées. Je veux peindre des petits détails dorés sur les côtés pour refleter la lumière et créer un petit effet de surprise. Mais nous avons essayé à la main...vu la maladresse du dessin, nous avons avisé pour commander des pochoirs.

The kitchen is taking form, I forgot to take  pictures before we had protected the fronts, sorry for that. I’m spraying the handles in gold so they fit with the sink, we will see how long they last.

La cuisine prend forme. J’ai oublié de prendre une photo avant que nous ayons mis une protections sur les portes de placards, désolée. Je peinds les poignées en dorés, pour qu’elles aillent bien avec l’évier, on va voir combien de temps ca tient.

The hallway is taking form, the windows opening to the bathroom and bedroom are in place, as well as the light points. A few days more and it will start to look more like an apartment, less like a construction site. Le couloir prends forme, les emplacements des fenêtres sont en place, ainsi que les trous prêts à accueillir les baldachins en plâtre pour les suspensions. Dans quelques jours ça va ressembler a un appartement je crois.

Painting painting...getting upset because the contractors...getting happy because of the contractors....seeing the end of the tunnel but still a way to go.

Peindre, peindre...s'énerver sur les artisans...être contente des artisans...je vois le bout du tunnel mais il y a encore un bout de chemin à parcourir.

Details are taking place in the living room now. I’m very happy about the kitchen bench, I’m the one that is going to do the finition so it might take some time.

Les détails sont en train de se mettre en place dans la pièce à vivre. Je suis assez contente du plan de travail, mais c’est moi qui va faire les finition, ca risque de prendre du temps....

Bathroom tiles with the grout this time. Very happy about the result. 

Le carrelage de la salle de bain avec les joints cette fois. Très contente du résultat.
