Day 45: halfway done with my time on Moorea, it feels like I’ve been here much longer than I have.
Today I had my dive test which I was supposed to take a month ago before I dove for CRIOBE. Not surprisingly, I passed. We went out to a mooring line that the instructor (who doesn’t speak much english) had never been to. On the descend down the contour we were surprised with a wreck that we briefly surveyed.
After my test we went to the lagoon to collect corals for a lab that apparently needs the corals we collected last friday for ourselves. It took us a long time to find the Acropora colonies and even longer to find those with eggs. While I was scouting for corals I found a huge school of fish that quickly darted in one direction and a blacktip darted in the opposite direction. After swimming probably around 2km away from the boat, Fred swam back to get the boat so Hendrikje and I didn’t have to swim all that way with our laundry baskets of corals.
In the afternoon we had a 4 hour meeting scheduling exactly what we spent all day yesterday scheduling. Once we finished our planning I was sent to work to collect all the things we need to autoclave in the morning, fragment the coral plugs and filter the seawater.
