I hope you all enjoyed reading ‘Captain’s Tangled Adventure’!
And here you thought I’d forgotten about that thing Cap picked up a few strips back! (It was nearly cut, but I found it fit perfectly well here).
Tomorrow I plan on posting the ending page.
Ah, Cap. You came all this way only to find you have to go back.
Ah, and we come back to it all - this was the first sketch I did for the comic. I was kicking around the idea for a bit and then thought ‘well, where would it end?’ and so I did a quick sketch of that middle panel. And from there hundreds more followed! Funny how that works out. This was delayed way longer then I wanted. I’ve been feeling very under the weather for a few weeks - nothing serious, just an earache, but it has made concentrating on art difficult. Anyway, these last few strips are just wrapping things up now.
Starting off the new year with some fancy panels! Sorry for a bit of delay on getting these last few panels finished - been a crazy few weeks, and I decided to redo this whole strip, but I’m very glad I did. I’m really happy with how it came out!
He can tell a lot by looking into a man’s eyes! Ah, I love Edmund so much - it’s always treat to draw him, and I finally got to draw Domino! Even if she’s a bit hard to see back there. Overall, a rather satisfying page 100! Whoo!
Ah, the last double digit page.
A mysterious figure appears. OooOO!
Sidenote: Edmund's footwear is absolutely fabulous and I want a pair. I don’t know if they’re boots or greaves, or what-have-you, but they’re wonderful.
Finally arrived.
Horse grabbing Captain’s cloak is still one of my favorite gags. It never ceases to amuse me. Don’t be surprised if you see me draw more characters in cloaks for the sole purpose of having that cloak be grabbed by their horse companion.
It’s always an interesting experience seeing sketches you finished months ago finally come together with color and shading. There’s a lot that came out better then I hoped, and other parts that still feel rough, but I’m pleased with it overall.
Onto the final chapter! Whoo!
Cap brought Apples!
This strip gives me such joy for some reason. You wouldn’t know it from all the sad horses I’ve drawn lately, but I love seeing a happy horse.
So many choices...
He did it! Captain found Bigfoot! I’m kidding, of course, but I do like to imagine people coming across Rapunzel’s footprints in the woods and being convinced that there is some kind of wild woman running through the countryside. And... I guess they’re not fully wrong.
You ever feel like you keep working and working and your to-do list never gets any smaller? That’s been my whole month. Wait, it’s October, now? Where did September go?
It always surprises me how complex a lot of the designs in Tangled are. I guess because I’m so used to drawing Cap (I’ve gotten it down to a pretty quick routine) I don’t think about it much. I simplify a lot when I’m drawing and coloring them, but there are so many different shapes and colors and details. Still, all those shapes and colors are really easy to read (they’re literally just simple, colored shapes), but it amazes me how long it take me to reproduce those shapes so it resembles the character.
All that to say, I love drawing Vigor tormenting the poor Captain.
Sometimes when we’re at out lowest, the universe sends us a sign. And that sign might be... a monkey in a turban. Okay.
