Date Night

Between the house, the kids, the constant guests, the new dogs.. Adalynn and Conrad haven't had any time to themselves. Adalynn suggests, for once, they take a night off just for them. A "date night" if you will. Conrad agrees.

They never really spent time out in the great world before settling down, so they only know the one place, really. Where they had their first date, their first drinks, their first moon, their first.... time (outdoors, at least). It's their old haunt, Grimtooth's.

For a second, they worry they'll run into everyone, but luckily, it seems a quiet night. And, with the right company and the right lighting, even Grimtooth's can be romantic.

Being together like this, they start feeling a little frisky. Adalynn gets a great idea.

The two find a nice bush, and sparks begin to fly.

Unfortunately, it's vampire night at Grimtooth's.

And Lucinda loves herself a vampire night.

Out of anywhere in the bar, she finds herself right at the very bush Conrad and Adalynn find themselves in.

Lucinda's not pleased to see her son like this. He gets a talking to, about decorum and public places and how he was raised better than this.

(Conrad isn't sure about that, because he and Adalynn have always loved spending time in the bushes.)

Eventually, Lucinda gets tired of yelling, and the three of them head to the bar, where everyone gets food and drinks. The mood lightens significantly.

In fact, the mood lightens so significantly, that Conrad has another idea.

The two head to the werewolf base. It's not a full moon tonight, so it should be empty.. and they sure don't see anyone on the way in.

The twin sized beds aren't really conducive to.. lightened moods, but the Conrad and Adalynn have never really been picky. The shower will do just fine.

While the two got.. reacquainted, Rory decided to drop by the base, see if anything needed looking at. She heard some strange noises coming from the bathrooms.

"Rats? Again? We gotta tell people to stop leaving food crumbs all over the floor- oh. Not rats, then."

She politely excuses herself.

Adalynn and Conrad consider the night a huge success.

Puppies

The Shaws have a good little life, Conrad thinks. But he wants his kids to have everything he's never been able to have. A real, wholesome suburbian life.

And what does every suburbia dream need? Dogs.

Conrad calls the adoption agency.

They bring by a few little creatures. Adalynn falls in love with one of them immediately.

It takes Conrad a little bit, but eventually he falls in love with a dog too.

And then, the little family of four, became a family of six.

Maybe Conrad just really wanted a dog for himself.

Another Birthday

The treehouse is done, and Valkyrie is growing up.

Aunt Kacey comes to visit to help set up for the big day. Elvis loves his aunt. He talks her ear off.

But Valkyrie is fussy. She doesn't want a bottle, she won't be changed. It's like she can sense it's her day today.

It isn't long before the whole family squad arrives, and Valkyrie is blowing out the candles.

Even Grandpa Shaw makes an appearance, straight from the afterlife. Conrad is overjoyed to see him again. They spend the whole party catching up.

Work, work, work (in all forms)

Adalynn isn't meant for a career. She knows this. Her werewolf side hates the 9-5, hates following rules and wants to tear its hair out at the IDEA of "work".

But Adalynn, who was called a genius since she was a child, who can solve complex equations in her head, who wanted to be a scientist her whole life, isn't ready to give up.

She's gone through multiple careers. She can't hold any of them long enough, since no boss wants to keep you when you leave your shift halfway through due to a case of werewolf.

But finally, she found something that could maybe work. It's not being a world-saving scientist, or a doctor. But she's good at it, and her boss lets her leave early almost every day.

The one downside? She's not home. She only sees her kids at night and early in the morning. Is it worth it? She's not sure.

Well, that, and the uniform.

While Adalynn is being a career woman, Conrad is the stay-at-home-dad. His job lets him work from home, so he spends his days with the kids.

There's always a gaggle of toddlers at his house, with their parents. It's good for the kids to socialize! Elvis is a regular friend magnet.

Little Valkyrie tags along with her big brother whenever she can.

Conrad even does day trips with the kids, taking them out to the water park on warm days.

Elvis loves the water. Valkyrie doesn't care one way or another.

Conrad loves being a stay-at-home-dad. He loves his kids. But sometimes, after a long week, when Adalynn is raring to spend time with them, Conrad spends a little bit of time on his own.

Just a few minutes from his house, there's a lake. He met a wonderful fisherlady there, who taught him some of the finer points of the trade.

Conrad fell for the hobby: hook, line, and sinker.

He doesn't quite have time for it now, but maybe one day.

The treehouse still isn't quite finished, but soon, Conrad hopes.

Birthdays and New Years

A new year passes. New years bring new experiences, and the Shaws are ready.

Conrad's still building the tree house. Little by little, more and more each day.

Rory still visits, spending quality time with everyone. She's the children's unofficial godmother.

Day by day, the kids are growing bigger.

And then soon, it's Elvis' birthday. The whole family turns out, most of the pack too.

And little Elvis gets a little older.

He's ready for his next adventures.. after a little nap.

He grows his hair out long, just like his dad. (And grandpa, though he doesn't remember him). He's a little menace, curious about everything. He moves quicker than Adalynn or Conrad could have ever expected.

A few times he almost gets into trouble.

Luckily, he's got the best dad in the world watching out for him.

Winterfest

It's strange not having snow on Winterfest. Back home, the snow was thick, and so were the snowball fights. In this new neighborhood, everything is calmer. Quieter. Warmer.

The family starts the morning cuddling on the floor. Eventually, everyone will learn to sleep in their own beds, but for now, Adalynn doesn't mind cuddling with Valkyrie and Elvis. It reminds her of her childhood, with her triplets.

She can see her own face reflected in Valkyrie's. Hopefully her life is kinder than Adalynn's own was. They moved out here for them, after all.

The house isn't quiet for long. Family arrives, and brings the festivities with them. This is the first Winterfest in a long time that Adalynn hasn't spent at Conrad's family house. Maybe this is a new tradition.

Conrad cooks the turkey. He isn't quite the cook Guy was, but those are big shoes to fill.

Family friends meet family. They bring gifts.

Even the vampire half of Conrad's family behaves. Their relationship was never top notch, so Adalynn is glad things stayed cordial. They haven't spent much time together since Guy passed. He was always the glue that held them together.

In the end, magic of Winterfest brings everyone together.

The Terrible Twos

Two little ones in the house at once is nothing to sneeze at. There's learning to be had.

There's diaper changes, feedings, and hugs.

Cuddles.

Toys to play with.

Family naps.

Conrad and Adalynn enjoy it the best they can. It won't last forever, so they try to treasure it while it's here.

Even with a few mishaps.

They spend as much time together as they can. Sometimes just sitting and talking. Sometimes doing... other things.

Friends pop in and out.

And Conrad's got himself a project: to build a treehouse for his kids. They can't use it yet, but one day, they'll love it.

Moving Forward

Guy's passing left a hole. Not just in Conrad's life. The pack was leaderless, and someone needed to step up. Conrad knew it was what his dad would have wanted.

Someone also needed to plan the funeral. Jezebel was deep in her studies, Lucinda couldn't be trusted to keep herself together. Conrad was going to have to step up again.

Naturally at the funeral, it was only right that Mana, the vampire that hated his dad the most, got herself burned up the sun. Conrad couldn't have planned it better. They dug two graves that day.

Lucinda acted like it didn't hurt.

They were divorced.

It's not like things were getting better.

She didn't wander around sadly, waiting for someone to fix everything.

She didn't miss him at all.

Beginnings and Endings PT2

Adalynn and her dad never had the best relationship. But now that her family was out on their own, Conrad thought every relationship should get a second chance.

Unfortunately, not all second chances are easy.

And soon, there's a new baby in the household.

Adelynn's entire family comes to help - something that brings both joy and absolute annoyance. There's no room for them, her dad is annoying everyone, everyone is underfoot, the house is filled with laughter and joy.

There's a fire, but Conrad quickly comes to the rescue, and no real harm was done.

Everything seems almost peaceful..

And in the middle of all of the festivities, Conrad gets the call.

He travels home as quick as he can, hoping that it's not true, that it was all a mistake. His dad, his brave, strong dad - the man that was always there for him, who taught him everything he knew, who was the strongest of them all - was gone.

Beginnings and Endings

The house was getting crowded. And with a second baby now on the way, Adelynn was getting nervous. She loved Moonwood Mill, and the community around it. But was it really going to give their kids the best chance in life?

After long discussions and a few arguments, Adelynn and Conrad decide to break away, and try living in a more... "normal" neighborhood.

Conrad starts up his garden again, and Adelynn settles into the mom life.

It's stressful. Back home, they had their families to fall back on. Here, they're on their own.

But not for long! Guy stops by to help his son out.

Little Elvis loves his grandpa, and Conrad and Guy get some much needed 1:1 time.

Conrad was very thankful to see his dad. He just didn't expect it to be the last time he'd see him.

What now?

Two bored kids.. just married...

What else is there to do?

Time passes quickly, and one day, little Elvis Shaw was born.

Little Elvis is everyone's favorite.

He goes from being the littlest baby:

To a happy infant almost too fast.

Meanwhile, in the throws of his mid-life crisis, Guy makes the biggest change he can think of to try and get out of his rut.

He asks for a divorve.

Lucinda refuses to leave. Guy refuses to leave. They have separate bedrooms anyway (Guy never could handle sleeping in a coffin), so things don't really have to change that much...

..do they?

The Wedding

Today's the day, and Conrad is nervous.

Werewolf weddings are traditionally held on the full moon. And Conrad is feeling it. He decides to go for a pre-wedding jog.

He runs into his friend Jakob, and things get a little.. heated.

Conrad pulls things together, and makes it to the ceremony. Adelynn's mom is officiating.

And the deed is done, the two are married.

They share their first dance, with nobody but a chicken to watch them.

In the other room, the full moon is grabbing hold of everyone.

After the bartender and cook ran in terror, and the cake didn't arrive, Guy saved the day by taking over drink orders, and baking the wedding cake.

And then that's it. The day is over.

The Bachelor(ette) Party

The day of the bachelor(ette) party, Adelynn discovered she became an aunt. One of her sisters adopted a young girl. It's love at first sight.

After the quick, heart-warming meeting, it's off to the local watering hole for the party.

It should have been a werewolf only affair, but the local vampire club showed their gross faces.

Only a few fights broke out..

Adelynn couldn't quite make it through the night.

The party raged on around her.

And then, at the end of the night, Conrad and Adelynn celebrated the best way they knew how.

Wedding Daze

First, the engagement party.

His and her family, mingling together for the first time.

With such famous families, it's no surprise that a few fans snuck in.

Please leave.

The bartender didn't show, but Guy wasn't going to let that stop the party.

Rory said some very nice things.

Overall, a great night.

Changes

One day, everything is different. High school is over. Things are changing.

You're growing up. You're changing your look.

Your dad is asking the intentions of your SO.

You're turning your hobbies into a career.

Your valedictorian speech still needs practicing.. along with your speech and debate skills, because you're a college kid now.

And then sometimes.. you gotta make the biggest leap of all.

Jezebel - The High School Years

High school is everything Jezebel dreamed of.

She's got the grades.

(She's got an immortal life and no need to sleep. Homework is no big.)

She's got the boyfriend.

(He's not so bright and he doesn't love it when she acts too vampire, but that's fine.)

She's got friends. Good ones, even.

She's mastered the violin, the arts, dancing..

Jezebel is taking life by the horns. She could even graduate early, but she wants to stay with her friends.

Come Prom, she and Orange are nominated royalty and jester. It's a beautiful night she'll never forget.

And at the after party, she leaves her stupid brother sleeping in the dirt.

Everything is perfect.

Conrad and Adelynn

Conrad is not very smart.

That's not an insult, he'll tell you himself. It's the wolf brain. It makes reading, thinking, everything hard. He's failing school, he just can't concentrate in class, especially on the full moon. And homework? His brain feels like it's melting out of his ears if he tries it.

But fitness, that comes easy. Listening to your body, and letting it stretch and move and fight, nothing easier than that.

Gardening, that's easy too. The earth will tell you what it wants, you just have to listen.

Conrad loves being a werewolf. It's great, really. Sure, there's some downsides. Like when you ask your dad for advice in the kitchen and his wolf instincts take over and he marks his territory right there.

Probably not going to eat those pancakes now.

And sometimes you get overexcited at school, turn feral, and have to hide in the bathroom till it's over.

Conrad is real familiar with those bathroom tiles. Skipped many a football practice for them.

But all of that, every single missed class, angry human, hated stare, cold bathroom tile.. all of it is made up for by Adelynn.

The adults said they were fated. Conrad doesn't actually know what that means, and he doesn't care. The single best girl in the world, loves him. Him! And not just the human parts. The wolfy, angry, hairy parts too.

He may not have found all those friends everyone else had. Or gone to parties, or whatever else normal people do in highschool. He got to slow dance at prom with Adelynn, and that's more than enough.
