if you’ve considered tattooing arabic for the pretty aesthetic, listen: arabic is characterized as a savage and barbarous language in the west, and many arabs are harassed or even killed for speaking it and writing it. i cant count the number of times i’ve stopped myself from speaking arabic in public out of fear. every shooter game that wants to seem “scary” sprinkles nonsensical arabic lettering on the walls. movies about violence will have extras shouting random arabic phrases, regardless of whether it’s accurate to the region or not. no one puts in the effort to learn about the beauty, history, and poetry of the language, because that would require looking at arabs as human beings. 

i of course want to share the beauty of my language, but putting it on your body in a standard typeface because you find the letters exotic is not respecting the language. do the research. arabic is calligraphic, and you can find extremely talented arab artists to work with. show that you care about arab people and don’t just want to use them to seem more interesting.

but whatever! it’s nice that there’s some weird different alphabet that you can put on your body to look exotic. who cares about the connotations of the words or if the letters are combined correctly! arabs aren’t THAT deep, are they?
