Let Me Love You

Hello. My name is Caroline Rhodes. I'm an east coast girl at heart as I was born in Boston. I'm 31 years old and come from a family of 4 kids, having one older brother and 2 younger siblings. I was born and raised in a military family which comes with it's pros and cons. Currently I live in the wonderful city of San Diego, married to a fellow military man and working as a well known chef in the area.

“Well, I think it’s better to regret doing something than regret not doing i.” Sebastian offered, “But I think we’re in a similar situation. I’ve never been to anything like this before. Hell, I don’t think anything like this even existed in England.” He laughed. “If you’re thinking of dancing, you should go for it. I’d offer to to be your dance partner but i think you deserve more than a blind man with a limp. I’l cheer you on from the side lines though.” 

“True.” she nodded. “Wow England. A place I would love to visit. It seems so beautiful there” she grinned before turning her attention back to the dancers. “I can’t believe I’m actually thinking of potentially embarrassing myself.” she chuckled. Caroline shook her head. “I highly doubt that but it would be nice to know I’ve got a fan on the side.”

Marco smiled, listening as she spoke, completely understanding where she was coming from —- when you found something you loved, it just took off like that. “It’s nice to find something like that,” he said softly, nodding his head. “I really wish I’d got into cooking a little earlier, but I was so intent on doing everything but what my family wanted. You know how it is when you’re young, you have to rebel.”

Caroline nodded. “Oh I understand completely. I’m the oldest girl in my family so that meant much more pressure from my father to set a good example and be the perfect everything.” she sighed softly. “Although for me, my father doesn’t really approve of my job. He’s always wanted his kids to go into more meaningful work like medical, law, military like him. But of course I had to be different and go for something I really love which is cooking and I’ve never regretted it...even if he probably thinks and wishes I did.”

“Most definitely observing.” Sebastian chuckled, turning in the direction of the voice that seemed to be addressing him. He wasn’t even sure why it had been a good idea for him to attend an event like this. It wasn’t like he could have participated in the dancing, and, being mostly blind, there wasn’t much he could watch. Still, the music was nice and it made a nice change of surroundings. As he was still new in town, this would be a good opportunity to socialise. He pushed his dark sunglasses further up his nose, leaning back against the wall, “Were you looking to dance? Or just enjoy the view?” He asked.

“I honestly have no idea.” she sighed. “Apart of me wants to give it a try where the other would much rather enjoy the view.” That last thing she wanted to do was embarrass herself. “I feel like I’m good at a lot of things but dancing is not one. I mean I don’t think I’m horrible but..” she chuckled softly before continuing.  “Let’s just say this type of thing is bit out of my comfort zone.” she shrugged. “But I have to say the music is very fun and catchy so whether I actually go for it or not at least that will be a plus.” she grinned.

As she agreed with him, Marco’s expression softened and he glanced her way, doing his best to stay upright as he did so. Last thing he wanted to do was end up on his ass all because he was trying to be a good listener. “Painting, huh? Not something I’ve ever been good at. I’m not exactly creative… well, not away from a kitchen anyway. Give me a plate and I can paint on that —- so to speak,” he said with a light chuckle.

Caroline nodded. “Yeah. It started with little doodles and then I went into painting and it’s just something that relaxes and opens my mind more.” she shrugged. She smiled at the comparison. “I agree with that. Cooking is where I feel the most at home and the most passionate and creative. It’s why I went into cooking myself and I’ve loved it ever sense.”

“I hope it’s not cracked,” Veronica said, gritting her teeth after realizing it was a phone that had crashed to the ground. She knew exactly how expensive phones were and how expensive it was to get a phone fixed. She hated relying on a phone so much, but she definitely needed her smart phone for different reasons. If anything happened to it, Veronica wasn’t sure what she’d do. “I’ve had way too many close calls and got one of those super heavy duty phone cases and screen protectors for it.”

“It’s just fine.” she grinned. Thankfully Caroline was good about her phones. After cracking her first one and end up using for years after before she as able to get a new one, she knew the importance of maintaining it and using it for as long as she could have it. “Yeah I broke my first phone and as punishment my father made me keep it until later on down the line when I was able to upgrade. Ever since I get the most steady case I can get.”

Caroline peaked into the room before finally stepping. Clearly the class had started as she seen people moving across the floor and the last thing she wasn't to do was interrupt the and make some sort of scene.. She noticed someone standing on the sidelines and walked over to them before placing her stuff on the ground and against the wall. “So are you here because everyone else was paired up, making you the odd man out or are you just not a dance person and observing.” she grinned.

Red manicured nails tapped against the wooden table as light eyes scanned the room. So many others had arrived and began their sessions in groups, laughing and commenting on the wines they were provided with. A breath blew from her lips as Rebekah waited impatiently; her phone being pulled out, Rebekah sent a quick text before she realized her person she was to meet had approached the table. “Listen, I don’t care why you’re late, I’m just happy people aren’t staring at me with those pity eyes they give girls who get stood up.”

Caroline flattened down her outfit before rushing inside. If there was thing Caroline hated more than anything, it was being late. She was raised on being nothing but early but today was not one of those days for her. She sighed as she finally sat down. “I’m sorry you had to endure that.” Caroline nodded. “My tasting ran a bit late because the people were late and then they had like a a billion questions and requests and I almost thought it would never end.”

That made two of them, then. But Marco couldn’t imagine anyone wanted that to be honest, they’d have to be pretty sadistic —- and he was pretty sure that he didn’t actually know anyone who was that way inclined. “At the moment, no… but you just wait,” he said with a soft chuckle, even though he was going to do his best not to fall. “I get that,” he answered. “My interests were very much in the ocean back in those days.”

“Well luckily there’s one of us here that has faith in our skills.” she shook her head, grinning. “Yeah I guess I would say the water was something of the same for me. That and painting mostly.” While Caroline wasn’t a expert in any of those  things, it was the type of activities that made her have some fond and happy memories from her childhood.

Veronica threw on her jacket and grabbed her bag as she rushed out the door. She was running late yet again, but what else was new? She started walking down the street, unfortunately having to rely on her own two feet since her car was in the shop. As she walked by at a brisk pace, she was unable to stop in her tracks and the momentum carried her into another person. Veronica reached out to steady them and then noticed they dropped something on the ground as they collided. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry. Here. Let me get that,” she said, leaning down to pick up the item. She glanced at it to make sure it wasn’t broken and then handed it back to them. “Are you okay?” 

Caroline sighed happily as she walked out of the building. Another meeting down. She checked her phone on the time and decide to turned the corned and decided to grab some coffee. Before she knew it she felt herself bump into another person causing her phone to drop. “Oh thank you.” she grinned at the girl once her phone was back in her hand. “I’m fine, don’t worry about. It was an accident.”

Sawyer usually had lunch out, regardless of where she was working that day. Whilst most her colleagues knew that Sawyer didn’t like to socialise at work she still avoided eating lunch with them just in case someone attempted to strike up a conversation with her. Standing in line at a little bistro Sawyer’s attention was mostly fixed on her phone as she replied to work emails. Her attention might have been fixed on the screen but she still noticed the person who cut in front of her. “Unless you intend on buying me my lunch and coffee I suggest you get to the back of the line.”

Caroline couldn’t help but look down the line what seemed like every few minutes. Sure she had a meeting with a potential new client right after, but she continued to wait anyway but mainly because she was craving the place and was already in line. Caroline checked her phone for a minute before looking back up to the women in front of her getting upset that someone cut the line. “I swear what is with people?” she shook her head. “I mean they aren’t the only one’s on lunch you know.”

When: January 11th, 2020 Where: Lucky’s Bar & Grill What: Karaoke Night

When a night out had been suggested to him, he had been hesitant to say yes when it felt like his whole life at the moment was a mixture between the gym, his mom and hitting up some bar so he wasn’t sat home alone. But he’d made a promise and if nothing else he was true to his word. Except what he had counted on was a quiet night tucked away in a corner somewhere and instead had been greeted by the full on extravaganza that was karaoke night. Two drinks in and he had yet to feel himself finding any enjoyment in it. After a particularly poor rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart he found himself reaching for his beer again, only to find it finished. Slight shake of his head was given before he muttered to himself as he turned to catch the bartender’s attention. “I need another drink for this.”

Caroline made sure to stay far away from the karaoke scene. She couldn’t sing nor did she feel like embarrassing herself in front of people. She couldn’t help but keep her eyes away from the stage. While she loved that some people were having fun and belting out the words to different songs, the whole thing about people not quitting their day jobs was even more proven tonight. When the guy next to her turned to the bartender, she jumped at the chance to get more drinks. “I’ll second that please.” she raised her hand, hoping to get her order in as well.

“Well let me know when you’re free after the holiday and I’ll gladly pay you to help me mix it up a bit.” She knew that her family would be thankful to have her mixing it up when it came to family meals. “I can try to help with that!” Alex answered with excitement. “Oh I can totally do light blues, whites, creams, maybe even silver or gold. How about you get checked out with this stuff and I can take you to one of my favorite locations around and we’ll get you everything you need.” She told her with a smile. “What do you think?”

“Sounds good.” Caroline nodded in agreement. As Alex was giving her ideas, Caroline couldn’t help but get more and more excited about this. She can cook, create recipes and paint all day but when it came to color schemes for gifts or anything in general, she was clueless. “That sounds amazing. I would love that, thank you.” she started heading to the checkout lane. “This year will be the best for sure.”

“Are you sure about that?” Marco’s brows rose in sheer amusement for a moment, but he soon turned his attention back to the skating, not actually wanting to make a fool of himself. “You’d better.” Another chuckle, his gaze shifting back and forth between her and the ice, trying to stay steady. “I don’t know. Just one of those things. I guess I didn’t think about it much when I was younger. Always more about the non-frozen kind of water.”

“Yeah, I promise.” she chuckled. “Believe me I don’t want either of us falling.” Caroline watched him trying to stay steady. “See this doesn’t look so bad at all.” She nodded. “I see. For me it was more about feeling settled and being able to have a hobby. I grew up moving around so once I was in college, it was nice being able to have something to do in the same place if that makes sense at all.” she shrugged.

“You have certainly improved from when you first started, it looks like you’ve dusted off those old skills of yours.” Kalina complimented with a smile. “So that means you’re going to turn into a regular around here?” She asked softly, she was somewhat hopeful that she’d get to see Caroline around more. “Do you mind if I see or is it a surprise?” She asked curiously. “You know I’m holder a beginner show. If you’re interested you should enter. It’s mainly like high school students, but I can squeeze you in if you’re ready to show your art to the world.” 

“Well thank you. Clearly my practice is really helping as well.” Caroline returned the smile.”Yeah I could love too. I mean I need someone new other than just my place to paint.” She was looking forward to fitting more time into the studio rather than being stuck in her place painting all the time. “No go ahead a look if you want.” she took a step back from her painting. “Wow really? I would love that. I mean I’ve never really shown a lot of people my work before but now that my passion is back for it, I’m kind of tempted.”

“I would love to actually. I’m pretty sure my family and friends are over me cooking the same old things so I wouldn’t mind spicing things up.” She admitted. “That’s at least good. What is all missing.” She asked curiously. “Well looks like bumping into me is fate because if there’s one thing I’m great at it’s color schemes and themes. I do interior designing for a living.” Telling the blonde with a smile. “So okay tell me your vision and I’ll come up with the scheme and help you get everything.”

“Perfect. That’s actually a specialty of mine. I love taking old recipes and mixing them up a bit so I’m totally down for that.” Caroline sighed happily again, she felt some of stress level was going down a bit. “Well I see a winter wonderland, simple yet chic and I think of items and colors that are easy to pair with yet screams the holidays in case they decide to one day expand on the decor. I mean of course the classic red and green are great but I want something different.”

“If that had happened, my life might as well be over completely right this second…” was Marco’s response, a shake of his head accompanying his words. As she continued, he allowed a smile to creep across his features, knowing that she was right. Honestly, he was just glad to be getting hold, not slaving away in a hot kitchen like he usually always was. “Well if I end up pulling you down with you, that’s likely to happen.”

“I promise it wouldn’t have been that bad.” Caroline shook her head, smiling. “Then I’ll prepare myself just in case but hopefully that won’t happen for either of us.” She started making small baby movements wither her skates. “So if you don’t mind my asking, what’s taken you so long to get back out here? I mean I obviously don’t know about anyone else but I tend to find skating kind of relaxing in a way.”

“Hey I’m glad to see you back here, it’s been a minute.” Kali commented as she opened the door to the private studio. “How has the painting been going?” She questioned, she closed the door behind her as she walked into the room. “Painting anything fun?”

“Hi, I’m happy to be back.” Caroline walked through the door into the studio. “It’s been going pretty good I think. I’m starting to fit into my schedule more which is nice.” It was finding an old hobby again. “Well I’m still kind of in the holiday spirit a bit still so I figured I would try and do a winter themed and I’ve only done the basics on it so far.”
