if one of them is dead.
for @ashwrths !!
There was a lump in her throat as she paced the Ashworth kitchen. She’d come over to speak her truth to the only person who couldn’t judge her, after all Emily had slept with her brother in law of all people. Finally though, Caroline stopped walking, leaning against the counter as she sharply inhaled, stress lines coming to take over her features. “Em.. I’m in love love with.. someone else,” thank god Luna was at a play date because risking her youngest hearing this was too much for Caroline. “But, you can’t judge me! Mines less worse than yours.. I’m just sleeping with a police officer, not my husbands brother.” Okay, relax with the dig. “But, it’s bad. Still bad, I’ve tried to end it but I can’t. What the hell do I do?”

The words she hummed were everything he’d wanted from her. They could be together, be able to go on dates in public. Could she really have meant that? They hadn’t even talked of the future much beyond a work schedule, but he meant every word to come. “You have me, Caroline, and Casey for as long as you want us.” His lips met hers and his hands met her hips, pulling their bodies close. I love you. Words clear in his mind but they hazed with her being so close. He knew the affair was wrong- he knew he shouldn’t have allowed Caroline to grow so close to Casey- but when they were together, the rest didn’t matter. They could forget the world while enjoying the solitary time. Moments like this, Nick was thankful for what they had. He deepened the kissed, licking across her lip.
There was just something that she couldn’t shake about him. She needed to, she should have wanted to.. but she just didn’t want to. Ever. The thing was though, she just didn’t know how to go about it, how to make this right for them, for her. Nick made her feel something her husband hadn’t made her feel in ages. Cared about, perhaps? His words rang in and out of her ears and she seemed to groan in the back of her thought, granting him entrance to her mouth but unlike him she just couldn’t shake it off. For a few moments the kiss continued before she realized she couldn’t ignore it any longer before she slowly pulled back, her finger tips dancing over his chest, lips ghosting over his as she swallowed her nerves. “I’m terrified but I love you, Nick.” She didn’t mean to say it, not really but with her mind so cloudy with his kiss, she couldn’t stop herself. Not this time. "I love you and I can’t make it stop so..” She trailed off, quick to lean in again, her lips finding his in get another heated kiss. She didn’t want him to answer her, too scared he would tell her no, tell her it was wrong.
what does your boo give you that your husband can't?
Attention, conversation, the will to live??? should i keep going on.
do you like casey more than your own kids?
Casey is my student. She’s a sweet kid, I like spending time with her and her dad.
What's your safe word?
Why would I tell the whole world my safe word?
If you could only have sex with one person for the rest of your life would you choose your husband?
No.
brooke.

Caroline tried her best to conform to the small town’s ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ policy but sometimes her true feelings floated to the surface. She fit in with her silver tongue as much as he did with his drawl. “Answers are answers, though. Something when you didn’t have anything before.” He tried to show her the glass half full sometimes. His fingers locked together behind her back, his tongue flicking over his bottom lip on reflex. A gentle smile that twisted with a hint of desire. “Oh, yeah. You can have anything you want.” His eyes flickered from her eyes to her lips then back to dark irises. Damn, he had it bad for this woman, and he knew it.
For a moment she sighed softly, her eyes floating up to his as he spoke. She was ever the optimist but here he was, turning her into something else so she simply gave a nod in his direction as her fingers began to coast through the hair at the back of his neck. “I always want you,” she hummed in return, her eyes holding a glow that she was sure only he got to see anymore but for once? Honesty coated her lips and Caroline almost froze. She did, just him, and admitting it out-loud? That terrified her, so as his eyes flicked to her lips she did the only thing that she could think of, pressed her lips to his. Anything to get herself to shut up.
getting attached to a student and her dad just to hurt them both?
how will your kids react when they find out about your affair?
My what? Who knows, am I a mind reader?
seeing the affair drama going on, how's that make you feel?
Am I meant to care about these other idiots lives? ‘Cause I don’t.
don't you have a conscience?
Sorry?

Was having an affair with your daughter’s married teacher a smart plan? Probably not, seeing as he was intending to keep a low profile. Still, the closer they’d gotten, the closer he wanted to get. Casey liked her, and from what Nick could tell, Caroline enjoyed spending time with the two of them. “Sometimes, answers- knowing why, makes all the difference.” His words seemed like they might come from experience but he pivoted quickly when her lips met his. His arms tightened, holding her close. “Oh, really? Well, you know, flattery will get you everywhere with an officer.” A twitch of his brow and genuine smile curling his lips told her that he was thankful her husband was out of town for the valentine’s holiday. He didn’t think he’d love anyone after his wife took her life but Caroline had blindsided him. Casey’s teacher wasn’t afraid to speak her mind for sure, but Nick liked a woman with realness. It was something that lacked around Fairview in comparison to back home, in Savannah.
Caroline knew this wasn’t the best idea, this whole affair thing but something about Nick? Even if she tried to stay away from him, it was like the cop was pulling her back in. She’d never been one to be so attached to a man but there was just something different, maybe it was because he really, truly knew her like her husband didn’t and maybe that meant something. “The answers aren’t always what we want to hear though..” Trailing off as her back arched in his arms, almost to get closer, she hummed. “Oh yeah? And what do I get for this flattery?” She teased, her fingers playing with the hair at the back of his neck. She really did like this, being with him but she just didn’t know what to do with her life a few blocks away.
distvrbia:
She and Nick met at a parent teacher conference and were friends for a few weeks before it turned into something else. He had no doubt in his mind that he loved her, but she was married and he knew what this was to her. He didn’t pressure her to leave him, no matter how much he wanted her to. Truth be told, he’d done something illegal to keep Casey. It was a toss up really if he would overlook Caroline’s drug problem and keep it to himself. Her words were somewhat ironic since he wasn’t even a flashy detective, or a detective at all yet. “Alright, I’ll tell you what,” He started, taking a few steps towards her as she stood in his kitchen. “I’ll look into what they find out if that will make you feel better.” His southern drawl made his voice so much more comforting somehow. He’d closed the distance between them by now and wrapped his arms around her waist. “Whatever you want.”
It wasn’t like Caroline could be honest about her feelings, if she did her whole life would implode but here, in Nicks kitchen? She felt more at home than in her own house, and the more time they spent together, it wasn’t just about the sex for her anymore, it was more than that but the words just wouldn’t come out. Yet, her time spent with Nick and Casey were important to her, not that Casey truly had any idea why her teacher was spending time at her house all the time. Setting her coffee cup down on the counter as he stepped closer to her, she couldn’t help the widening smile on her features and how she seemed to relax. How he didn’t get it was beyond her but yet he was a man and men never understood unspoken feelings, it seemed. Arms tangling around his neck, she hummed softly before nodding. “It’s a start, I guess but I doubt anyone will find out anything.” Stepping up slightly on her tiptoes she pressed a chaste kiss to his lips, “you’re the best, you know?”
