A Folk Witch Library
Hidden like Viking gold under the landscape there is a rich body of nearly lost folkwitch tradition hiding in plain sight on the internet. Particularly in the 18th and 19th century antiquarians, folklorists and ethnologists documented the rural and occasionally urban folk beliefs of practically all of the UK and much of Europe. Organizations like the Folklore Society, founded in 1878, were created to help catalog and publish this body of collected ethnological data. A vast repository of a spectrum of witch and cunning craft practices.
Below are a list of links to various sources on the internet. The non Abramhamic roots of British folk traditions date from an era of Celtic settlers, and thus much of the spirit tradition concerns beings we now collectively call “fairies”, though their origins and nature differ greatly.
Books Available Online for free:
Folklore Society/Folk-Lore Journal:
Over 100 publications made by the Folk-Lore Society can be found on Archive.org. Unfortunately these are mostly unsorted, although they represent a massive amount of folkwitch information. Particularly in the realm of curses, hexes, salves, second sight, and boundary magic.
I will be launching a separate blog dedicated to delving into the contents of the Folklore Society’s publications in the next few weeks. In the meantime - Happy digging: Link to archive of FOLKLORE JOURNAL

When you shout your truth with NO filter, you’re activating your inner Explorer (aka Knight) of Swords. Are you thinking critically and carefully articulating your opinion? Or are you ranting, raving and shouting into the void? The Explorer of Swords can go either way, so check in with your thoughts and words. The crow here has a lofty vantage point which may lead them to assert that they know it all. You are called to utilize the knowledge you’ve gained so far, while remaining open to new or contradictory views. Uphold the value of your current ideas, but know that you are very much still learning.

“Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there-on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam.“
-Carl Sagan
The Hanged One card from The Spacious Tarot: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thespacioustarot/the-spacious-tarot
It took us a very long time to settle on a concept for The Lovers. The Spacious Tarot has no humans and only a few animals, plus I really felt like our Lovers needed an unconventional take. I got so stuck and unable to figure out how to approach this card that I finally said "okay, Universe, I'm stuck on the Lovers. Please help the right imagery for this card come forward." And only a few hours later, the Universe delivered, giving me a vision of intertwining light beams. Annie does amazing things with light in our deck and I really feel the ENERGY of the Lovers when I look at this card. It's one of the cards I was most nervous to debut because it's so different! A few people have been baffled by this depiction but it has generally been well received, which is "lovely." 😉💛
DYNAMIC is one of the first words that comes to my mind when I think about the Two of Pentacles, and we really wanted to bring that energy into this card in The Spacious Tarot. 🌿 I love the motion at work in the pentacles themselves, to me they seem to be spinning, dancing. Annie had the genius idea to bring hummingbirds into the card - they are such vibrant, fast moving creatures and they fit perfectly in here. I also love the earthy, autumnal colors. 🍂 This card is just bursting with life and it's definitely another of my favorites from our deck! 💛
15 days left to preorder your copy of The Spacious Tarot on Kickstarter: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thespacioustarot/the-spacious-tarot
The Six of Swords is a card that I see often when I read for myself. To me, the energy of this card is a mix of fatigue and perseverance, heaviness and hope, weariness and brightness. The concept here in The Spacious Tarot is these huddled swords, looking like they've gone through something rough but they're still standing, and they are together, relying on each other. The sky is stormy but the sun is breaking through the clouds in the distance. The most jarring part of the storm is over but you might still be reeling from the impact and it could be a bit more of a journey before you're really basking in those rays of sun.

We have 18 days left in our Kickstarter for The Spacious Tarot, and I've picked 18 of my favorite cards to highlight one each day as we approach the finish line! 💥 Starting with the Ace of Wands. This was one of the first cards we created a concept for and at first I thought it might be too simple - just a wand and a spark. But the further we got into the deck creation process, the more I craved simplicity. I love how this card turned out - it says so much with so little. I've always thought of the Ace of Wands as the initial spark which could go in any direction from here. It could burst into a bonfire, or it could fizzle out, it could light you up or burn you down. Annie did an amazing job on all of the cards and this is a great example of the unique "flair" of our deck.

I don’t care how silly it sounds, Bob Ross is absolutely part of my pop culture pantheon, so I made this tarot spread in honor of his wisdom.
