sam's devotion for dean is so unshakeable it's holy. in point of no return dean runs away to say yes to michael, says repeatedly that he will say yes when given the opportunity, tells sam that he doesn't believe in him anymore, that if the situation was reversed he would have locked him up (again), and STILL sam has faith in dean, has faith that he will not say yes, that he will do the right thing, and frees him, even when dean didn't give him the same treatment. because he's dean he's his big brother and he's good and always does the right thing and that's just how it is and how it's always been since sam was a little kid looking up to his big brother and that has never changed.
