As they walked, Beth clung to Carter, not wanting to let go of him. She was hesitant to be rolled around in a chair, but with Carter pushing it, she felt more at ease. Carter? She tipped her head back to look up at him, though it was hard to see through the tears collecting in her eyes. Am I going to be okay?
Seeing her cry was like jabbing a knife through his chest. He hated seeing his sister hurt in any kind of way-- which made him good when it came to boyfriends breaking her heart and the sort. But he hid it and instead he simply smiled down at her, patting her shoulder. Yeah, sis. You're gonna be okay.
