Naomi Sims was a pioneering African American model, businesswoman, and author. Born on March 30, 1948, in Oxford, Mississippi, Sims rose to fame in the late 1960s and is widely regarded as one of the first African American supermodels.

Sims modeling career spanned over two decades, during which she appeared on the covers of numerous top fashion magazines, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, and Life. She also walked the runways for top designers and brands.

In addition to her modeling career, Sims was a successful entrepreneur and author. She wrote several books, including "All About Health and Beauty for the Black Woman" and "How to Be a Top Model." Sims also launched her own line of wigs and cosmetics.

Throughout her career, Sims was a trailblazer for African American women in the fashion industry, paving the way for future generations of models and entrepreneurs.
