This past week was a harrowing one for our family. We kept Ezra home from preschool on Wednesday with a stomach ache, thinking he might be getting a stomach bug. By Wednesday afternoon, his symptoms had gotten bad enough that we were concerned. He was holding his side and told us he needed to go to the doctor. So, we decided to take him to the emergency room, where they determined that it was appendicitis. He had to be transported to Mass General in Boston by ambulance (90 minutes away) because that was where there was a pediatric surgeon on call. I stayed home with Luca and Eva rode there with him. The next morning he had the appendectomy. Because of his age, it had to be open surgery rather than laparoscopic. Ezra was very brave throughout the whole ordeal and we’re very proud of him. Luca and I drove down to Boston yesterday to pick them up and Ezra is home safe now and recovering. His classmates and teachers at preschool put together a wonderful basket full of things he loves, which was so sweet. It’s been a very scary few days, but this experience has put things in perspective for me. There’s nothing more important than our families and I’m so thankful to have mine whole and home again.
