I'm curious, is there any reason that gray coloration for cats is named blue?

I don’t know how or why specific names were chosen for the official colour terms. Some people think it simply sounds more interesting and desireable, maybe it was as easy as that.

That being said it sort of makes sense when you try to differentiate the different tones. Blue is a cool grey with a blueish tint, while lilac is a warm grey with a pinkish/purplish tint. And then there are also the silver variations which look more crisp and bright, depending on the base colour.
