culture shock .::. intro
imbalance the internal energies, huh. hawke thinks back to when leandra was still alive to tell her off for all the drunken parties at the estate. she remembers a particularly memorable night of oil wrestling, even. those nights had been forced out of the mansion eventually, which only lead to a dramatic increase in the number of pub brawls in the hanged man. can’t win em all.
maybe it is a good thing that the girl did not know about the devils of drink.
"stay golden."
she blinks. what she’s talking about sounds like mana.
"so you’re a mage? are your powers sealed off too?" with any luck, she’ll find someone in this place who would know how to get the restriction off.
"woah, what?" say what you wanted about hawke, but she isn’t a fool. "why on earth would that be necessary? i think i would have to charge you a lot more than a bit of gold if you’re going to kill me outright" she wasn’t even sure if she was really afraid of death, but she knows a shit deal when she sees one. being ripped off was never on the agenda.
"What is a may-jeh?” Xiaolongnü asked, frowning. “I am simply a disciple of the Ancient Tomb Sect. I suppose I am a wuxia warrior too, though I haven’t been in the jianghu for years now…”
"But I know I haven’t been able to fly since stepping into this town," she added. "It is very slow, having to walk everywhere. That is why I am looking for help."
To be honest, the woman’s sudden outburst surprised her. Deals in the jianghu could be tricky—she knew that much, after being the unfortunate victim in a few betray-and-backstab scenarios. A little caution and sacrifice seemed prudent.
"You will not die from the poison," Xiaolongnü reassured her. "There is not nearly enough in these needles—and besides, I have the antidote."
"And as for the reward—well, if I knew where my tomb was, you could have all the treasures inside. There’s an entire room, and I don’t need them." She tapped her lip thoughtfully. "Hmm…I don’t think I’ll ever need any gold, besides to ‘buy food’ and ‘hire services.’"
An idea popped into her head.
"Oh, I know. If I find any jewels and treasure, I’ll just give them all to you! Would that work?"
Ah, perhaps she should sacrifice something of herself too, in return?
"And…hmm. Do you have any poison on you? You could give me some, too. Then we’d be even."
"flying? is this the part where you tell me that you're a dragon?"
it's all very complicated, even for hawke. she didn't like complicated.
"i do like gold. i'll admit i've done a lot worse for it." between a bit of poison and meeting a ten foot drake in the underground, it's not a big deal. "i just feel like not poisoning anyone would be a lot easier to go about it, especially since you're really not risking anything but time." though hawke would say that there isn't a risk in any job that she's taking.
