i wrote a really short story i'm not too confident in, but some people on facebook enjoyed it so i thought i might share it here too. i'm not much of a writer, but the tone matches a lot of the kress stuff i make, so some of you might find value in it.

I see art of it sometimes and it's always really cute! I do like the thought of how the dynamic between the Graves siblings would change if one of them was younger. What it might look like for each one to have to step into a more active caretaker role and how that would blend with their personalities and all their flaws. How the younger sibling's personality would change in small ways as it blends with the older one now that they aren't growing up alongside each other as peers, but are looking up to the other as a role model.

I have to imagine there's fics that do this really well, but I'm too lazy to go digging lol.

I know you like Kress, but what's your opinion on Desselle?

It's interesting, I normally have a big thing for incestuous ships but don't really think about Desselle much. I guess because my fixation on Kress comes mostly from my interest in Kris.

That said, I do have some notes on what I guess you could call an AU, something I can reference when writing scenarios with the characters. Within those notes is an implied incident that doesn't go far enough to leave any lasting scars on Noelle before Carol and Rudy catch them, but it does throw the family's dynamic off balance and sparks a guilt-ridden depressive spiral in Dess, all of this happening behind a thin veil that Noelle is too young and naive to see through. She continues to view Dess as a cool older sister because she never really understood what was happening to her. But that tears Dess apart because she knows she's undeserving of the affection. She tried to misuse it once, so it's not fair that she gets to hold onto it.

Random reflections on Kress that I hope you'll maybe enjoy. (And am very curious about your own headcanons of the same type.)

I like to imagine Kris's puppy thing was originally from the positive reinforcement Dess gave them for it, and now even as they try to move past everything, they still like being treated like a puppy, and kinda have an irreversable kink about it.

Even if seriously reflecting on it makes them feel sick, they still like being being held and petted and called "good dog," and now everyone calls them a puppy and like a pet dog as a cute little joke because it seems to make them smile, with absolutely zero context of any of the sexual trauma behind it.

And, I love so much the idea that Susie, maybe isn't even too much like Dess, but still constantly reminds Kris of her, when she's violent towards them, when she laughs, when she puts her hand on their head and smiles...

i love this a lot, the way it perfectly ties into the complicated feelings Kris might have about Dess, the craving for the affection she provided despite knowing it's wrong and feeling sickened by that wrongness, but still shamefully finding some comfort in it. it's too good! i've certainly considered leaning into some pup/pet stuff with some of my art of the two (i'm a big fan of that kinda thing, it shows a bit in my older drawings) but i have to assume the world of Deltarune wouldn't have the same culture around dogs and their role as a pet given that they instead seem to be separate species of monster with comparable intelligence to everyone else aside from the annoying dog, so i begrudgingly stayed away from it this time. As for Susie, I like to think of her and Dess being a bit similar but only really on the surface with similarly tomboyish presentations. Just enough for those occasional glimpses of Dess you mentioned to really hit hard in a way that even Noelle would recognize, and it's why the two take to Susie so quickly and comfortably.
