INTRO
Greetings, I call myself Cathy Deadskin and I currently reside in San Jose, California. My music is from the heart and occasional my brain helps out here and there when it feels like it. Often, my songs forms from many different emotional experiences or events.
I rarely played outside of my bedroom until recently. I would like my music to help others somehow, whether it sympathizes, comforts, inspires, informs, or challenges.
For now, this site shall serve as a place for you to see my stuff, find out more about me, or follow what I am doing. Explore and definitely read! I am also working to make it interactive, hence the ability to make comments on posts.
The meaning behind the name, "Deadskin"
Surprise! Deadskin isn't my real name. I put a lot of thought into it and there's a lot of symbolic meaning behind the name despite the initial unpleasant imagery that may be conjured upon hearing the words.
Since I was a wee little child, I have had a slight skin disorder that makes me shed more dead skin than the average person, especially on my hands and feet. I felt conscious about it for a long time and sometimes still feel nervous in some situations. It doesn't bother me too much medically but growing up, several people around me found it unsightly and recommended change. The biggest problem I have had with my skin is other people's nonacceptance. From school kids calling it disgusting to adults trying to find a "cure" to it; I guess people never understood that their judgment was the worst part of the condition.
All of us shed skin. My dead skin isn't a big deal but many people I've met found it so and this concerns me. Not that dead skin prejudice is a serious issue in itself (I'm not planning to form a movement for it any time soon) but when people spend their energy and time focusing on something that's not important and creating suffering in the process, I don't think it does any good, not for me, not for society.
Deadskin doesn't sound catchy, appealing, or cool but neither do most things in life. I was hesitant to choose this name out of fear that it drive away potential listeners but realized that popularity is not the point.
As we grow and mature, we are constantly peeling our layers off. There's a metaphor somewhere in there. o.o
In short, I have more dead skin than the average person but it's no big deal unless you make it so. It's just a name so let's focus on what really matters, the music.
