Devlog #1 Ide di balik desain Cat Legends
Sebelum sebuah game mulai diproduksi, desainer game akan melakukan riset pasar dan merancang ide-ide game yang akan dikerjakan berdasarkan hasil riset tersebut. Tim desainer dari Cat Legends juga melaksanakan langkah serupa.
Riset pasar merupakan salah satu kunci kesuksesan finansial sebuah game dan membutuhkan waktu yang cukup panjang untuk dilakukan secara teliti. Tim desainer Cat Legends melakukan riset pasar dengan berbagai cara.
Salah satu langkah awal yang dilakukan adalah menentukan model bisnis yang akan digunakan, karena model bisnis tersebut akan mengarahkan riset pasar ke arah yang lebih tepat dan terfokus.
Dalam industri game, terdapat dua jenis model bisnis yang umum:
Model Bisnis Premium, di mana pembeli harus melakukan pembelian awal sebelum bisa mengakses atau memainkan game tersebut. Contohnya adalah game di Steam atau konsol lainnya.
Model Bisnis Free to Play (F2P), di mana produknya dapat diunduh dan dimainkan secara gratis tanpa harus membayar di awal. Contohnya adalah game-game gratis yang tersedia di Google Play Store atau App Store.
Tim desainer Cat Legends memilih model bisnis Free to Play (F2P) karena sesuai dengan visi perusahaan Dreams Studio yang ingin mendominasi pasar game mobile.
Langkah selanjutnya adalah menentukan genre game. Pada tahap ini, tim desainer mempertimbangkan kapasitas dan keahlian yang dimiliki oleh tim produksi untuk menghindari eksperimen yang berlebihan selama proses produksi nanti.
Sampai tahap ini, tim desainer sudah memiliki gambaran tentang game apa yang harus dikerjakan, yaitu mobile idle RPG Game. Namun, hasil riset ini masih belum cukup kuat dan jelas untuk diproses ke tahap produksi.
Langkah selanjutnya yang dilakukan oleh tim desainer Cat Legends adalah melakukan analisis pesaing (Competitor), yang akan saya bahas secara mendetail di bagian kedua devlog ini.
