Book Review #1 ... Stolen Things by R.H. Herron
*SPOLIER ALERT!!!* My first read of 2026! I checked this book out from my public library recently and can I say what an excellent read to start off the new year! It is about a 911 operator, Laurie and her teenage daughter, Jojo. The story begins with her daughter, calling her telling her she's been drugged and raped and doesn't know where she's at. She's inside the house of an acclaimed football star and her friend Kevin, who's friend Zach was also found killed inside the closet, and who they immediately suspect is the culprit. They soon find out her best friend Harper, is missing as well. The story follows the mother and daughter as they uncover conspiracies within the police department who Laurie's husband and Jojo's father is the chief of connecting the officers and JoJo's underage friend. This book had me audibly gasp at the twists and turns it takes you down. I also loved the bond the mother and daughter have with each other through out the story. Laurie is a bit off the rails at points but its understandable given the information she and her daughter discover throughout the book. The book is very fast paced and has you jumping from the mothers perspective and the daughters and i loved how it made the story flow and you could feel what they were each going through. In my opinion it was an amazing book and i really enjoyed reading it! The ended wrapped it up nicely and although it doesn't out right say what ends up happening to the whole "situation" with the officers and Harper, one can infer that it will work out in Laurie, Jojo and Kevin's favor in the end. i would rate it a 4.5 out of 5. Cant wait for my next read!
