So for a while now I’ve been reading HOUSE OF LEAVES and…I just can’t take this [🚽] seriously.

((Some little spoilers ahead))

I heard about the book from videos of the doom mod that it’s based on (MyHouse.wad), & I wanted to see what it was about. So I went to my school library, rented it out over the summer & started reading it. (I had been procrastinating on it for a bit though, me moving & all that)

Right now I’m on page a 72(?) & I’m starting to Get bored of it. Now don’t get me wrong the story is good, but there are 3 things that I’m struggling with

1st - it’s a little hard to read: now I know later on crazy [🚽] starts happening on the pages…but I haven’t gotten to that yet. What I mean is that I’ve had a little trouble finding words & staying on the right lines of text. like I would see a word, start reading the first parts & immediately think it’s a different word. (Sometimes I just give up trying to sound it out & immediately do google text-to-speech)

2nd - I keep thinking about backrooms: when I’m reading the parts about the documentary (the Navidson record) & the mysterious house & long ass hallway, i just can’t stop thinking about Backrooms. & if you’ve read my movie review on OBSESSION (great movie) I said I did not like the backrooms movie, and I still don’t like it. It’s more of a “action” movie then a horror movie & when I saw it I wasn’t really interested. mostly because I got a ton of spoilers online & I only liked backrooms back in 2020 or 2021. (Also I had a traumatic experience around it that I won’t talk about)

And finally 3rd - Johnny’s really annoying: every time he comes along telling his side of the story it’s just him talking about how he smoked a joint, tooks shots with his friend lude and then [🦊]ed this girl named thumper. & whats been really bothering me lately is that when he has an panic attack episode & then immediately goes about his day like nothing happened. (I’m pretty sure it’s like a spirit haunting him, but I’m like “DUDE if you stop taking every drug & alcoholic substance, then this [🚽] wouldn’t happen) 

Anyways I kind of want to keep going but I’m not so sure. If anyone has some advice to help me, that would be great

(Btw I’m working on some OBSESSION artwork at the moment, it’s gonna be a redraw of those draw-over memes. But I’m telling you which…& I’ll post my “scrapped Show idea” some time soon I just need to think on it)

Kat Holloway’s beau, Daniel has always had a past shrouded in mystery. Kat is afraid this mystery will tear them apart, something her heart may not survive. As we move closer to the union of Kat and Daniel, it seems another mystery stands in the way of their happiness. Kat is determined to help Daniel, but at the same time she learns that her darling daughter will be moving with her adopted family out of the city into a suburb of London. Something that Kat knows may be the best for her, but will also make it difficult for her to see her very frequently. This, along with solving the mystery of Daniel’s background really amps up the tension in this story. As a reader of all 9 novels, and a bunch of short stories in this series, I just want Kat to get her happily ever after. A home with Daniel, her daughter, and his son. I feel like we are fast approaching that time which may or may not be the end of this series. It seems like, with the death of this mystery man who said he had information for Daniel, that they would’ve hit a dead end, but Kat can pull information out of a brick. Tracking down info is her secret sauce and somehow she finds a thread to follow. I love it that these threads don’t seem to dangle in front of her but that she hunts them down with the help of her bevy of friends. I like all of the stories in this series but Murder in Blackfriars was especially poignant. Her daughter moving away, and the threat to Daniel’s peace made for an emotional story and one of the better ones in the series. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❣️ I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review and it was honest. Review:

Bollywood body horror mixed in with erotic obsession and parasocial relationships. This was definitely a interesting read and it sucks you in, the ending leaves you a little "huh" but overall the body horror aspect was cool and the obsession was a interesting storyline. I was intrigued by the twist and turns of the story and it makes a really intriguing read.
