Agnes Aubert's Mystical Cat Shelter, by Heather Fawcett
Are you looking for an inoffensive book to gift someone who loves cats? This book is for you! It has cats in it…and it's inoffensive. And… there's really nothing much else going for it.
I cannot say anything bad about the book. Not because I'm being paid to write this (I'm not) but because there's nothing bad about the book. There's just nothing to rave about either.
Did I like it? Sure. It has cats. And it's a fantasy. The fact that midway through the book, the shelter keeps running out of cats for people to adapt? Fantasy.
It's just that everything is low-stakes. Which is fine. Which is nice. It's cozy. And books should be able to just be cozy. My only problem is that it's hard to review a book that just is.
So short review made even shorter? You won't regret buying (or borrowing) this book. It's perfect for rainy days with a mug of hot chocolate (or coffee, or tea) beside you, with a cat curled up on your lap. But if you're looking for something that will move you (whether in a good way or a bad way), maybe choose something else.
