They said they have Donna Tartt's new book
Donna Tartt for the NYT, 1995, photo by Stephan Haskell
i forgot how insane the ending of the little friend is. it is so abrupt and bleak, there’s no closure, just a new terrible understanding for harriet of the world in the transition from childhood to adulthood and already beginning the distillation of the experiences she had during the summer into a narrative where she can process her grief and justify her guilt. even very basic plot elements don’t get resolved such as whether her family will move to nashville with her father, what happened to libby’s will, what’s going on with allison and pem’s relationship…. even danny’s arrest at the end is inconclusive as suggested by edie when she says he’ll probably be out of jail in no time. let alone what happened to robin. the real progression of the book is the slipping of life irretrievably into loss (of loved ones, of innocence, of money and property, of sense and reason) and intractability of actions — the book isn’t a murder mystery, it’s just one long consequence of the death that starts the book. so much has to do with memory and the construction of storytelling often in a negative way
i love it so much
“A mousy girl who bruised and sunburned easily and cried at nearly everything, she had grown up, unexpectedly, to be the pretty one: long legs, fawn-red hair, liquid, fawn-brown eyes. All her grace was in her vagueness. Her voice was soft, her manner languid, her features blurred and dreamy…”(Pg. 20)
Hl. Willehad
gefeiert am 8. November
Hl.
man fuck adhd why did i spend 3 hours making this in the middle of reading
my used foucault came with this monastic prayer card in it. hm
Hey sorry for the random ask but what do you think about Foucault probably being a pedophile? At first I didn't know if it was true but by reading his history of sexuality there's many instances where it looks like he defends pedophilia? Idk idk
bait used to be believable. foucault made a shitty defence of youth liberation because he was at core a libertarian who conceived of freedom almost exclusively as a series of individual negative rights. he consequently had a chronically underdeveloped theoretical understanding of why & how power is exercised repressively, and tried to sidestep the whole issue by condemning any expression of authority or social/legal hierarchy prima facie rather than investigating whose interests are being protected at any given point. certainly this was informed at least in part by his experience witnessing blatant legal hypocrisy in french age of consent laws for heterosexual vs homosexual relations.
