“I have the perfect solution to our cat problem.” Nico announced as he stepped into the house, carrying in the groceries, and continuing to speak as he made his way through the house and into the kitchen to set everything down. “Let’s get a dog. Hear me out, a dog keeps the rest of the pets in line, right? That’s totally how it works, Gard. Think about it.” He grinned, looking over to where Gardner sat, reading a book that Nico was certain went entire over his head, if he ever would try to pick it up and follow along. “What do you think about that?” He asked, walking over and bending down in front of Gardner, leaning up and kissing his forehead, instead getting a mouthful of the hair that fell over it and grimacing as he stood back up. “I’ve always wanted a dog.”

Gardner had known Nico was home because he’d heard the car, but he was trying to finish the chapter he’d started before getting up to help with the groceries. So when his husband entered the house announcing that he had a solution to their cat problem, he didn’t look up when he responded. “Oh yeah, and what’s that?” The older male’s eyebrows rose when he heard the younger’s suggestion but did as requested, and listened to all he had to say before responding; even going so far as to close his book.
Listening intently, Gardner found plenty of fault in Nico’s argument that a dog would keep their cats in line, especially because everyone knew puppies were destructive before they were trained. However as he looked up at his husband’s face, he knew with every fiber of his being that they were getting a dog because he could never say no to the man he loves. Setting the book aside, he stood up to give his husband a proper welcome home kiss, before giving a response. “I think whatever my love wants, he gets, and if you’ve always wanted a dog, and you think one will help corral the cats, then we’re getting a dog. I’m not really sure how to go about it, but I assume we just go to the shelter and bring home whomever we like best?”
