JANE FONDA in Barefoot in the Park (1967)
I started using Head and Shoulders ten years ago for itchy scalp and dandruff, and then for ten years I have not had itchy scalp and dandruff, so I thought "why do I still buy shampoo to combat itchy scalp and dandruff when I do not have itchy scalp and dandruff," so I stopped buying the shampoo for itchy scalp and dandruff and can you guess I have now? Can you predict what currently afflicts me? It's alright if you can't because apparently I fuckin couldn't either
Cutting something out of your life because you think you don't need it any more only to realize that it was in fact working as intended and preventing a problem that will return should you stop doing this is a good experiment to run periodically with something small like dandruff shampoo, lest you start to think it would be a good idea to do this with like let's say public health and the social safety net and vaccines
I had a liver transplant when I was 14 and like six months later I was chatting with my surgeon and he said “there’s gonna come a time, probably when you’re a teenager, where you’re gonna think, ‘I feel great, why am I still taking all this medication? I haven’t needed it in years.’ and you’re gonna want to stop taking all this medication. Guess what’s gonna happen then? You’re gonna go into rejection and your liver is gonna start failing, and you’re gonna be dying again, and we’re gonna have to find you another liver. So don’t do that.” And I said “why the fuck would anyone do that?” and he said “people are stupid.”
every once in a while when I get annoyed by a pharmacy or don’t wanna get out of bed to do my drugs I think “ugh, this is dumb, why do I do this?” and that conversation slams into me like a truck and I remember that I am, in fact, stupid
Please please please I know we all love Friends and Chandler was our favourite character and Matthew always put a smile on our faces and that’s all amazing but can we please please please talk about this:
“I've had a lot of ups and downs in my life. I'm still working through it personally, but the best thing about me is that if an alcoholic or drug addict comes up to me and says, 'Will you help me?' I will always say, 'Yes, I know how to do that. I will do that for you, even if I can't always do it for myself! So I do that, whenever I can. In groups, or one on one.
And I created the Perry House in Malibu, a sober-living facility for men. I also wrote my play The End of Longing, which is a personal message to the world, an exaggerated form of me as a drunk. I had something important to say to people like me, and to people who love people like me.
When I die, I know people will talk about Friends, Friends, Friends. And I'm glad of that, happy l've done some solid work as an actor, as well as given people multiple chances to make fun of my struggles on the world wide web...
but when I die, as far as my so-called accomplishments go, it would be nice if Friends were listed far behind the things I did to try to help other people.
I know it won't happen, but it would be nice.”

L’alphabet phonétique

This vowel diagram shows the inside of the throat from the left side (pronounce /i/ “eee” and /ɑ/ “aaa” to feel the difference). Antérieur: front, postérieur: back, aperture: opening of the lips.
Les voyelles nasales (when followed by a consonant except -h- or ending a word)
[ɑ̃] > am, an, (é)en, em, aon - temps (time, m)

[ɔ̃] > om, on - ombre (shadow, f), bonjour (hello)
[œ̃] > um, un - humble, un (one, m); dying, turning into [ɛ̃]
N.B. When a nasal sound is produced, despite being made of two letters, they are to be pronounced as their own sound: in Bonjour, the /o/ and the /n/ shouldn’t be heard at all since they are followed by the consonant /j/, as opposed to the usual dragging of /o/ then /n/ like in Bonne journée.

Les consonnes nasales

Voiced sounds are those that make our vocal chords vibrate when they are produced; voiceless sounds are produced from air passing through the mouth at different points. Fricatives are consonants with the characteristic that when they are produced, air escaped through a small passage and make a hissing sound; plosives are a type of consonant produced by forming a complete obstruction to the flow air out of the mouth.
Movie: Le fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain - Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001
Why would you want women to have more power in an unjust system? Because the unjust systems are the only ones available. Because the exclusion of women from power is one source of this injustice. Because women gaining power is a prerequisite for them to become free. “Why would you want women to have more power in an unjust system?” isn’t a bad question. But it raises another one: Just how perfect does the world have to be before women will deserve to take their equal place in it?
And how did she become feminism's problem?

Emotional Regulation DBT Skill: Opposite Action
The goal here is to change your state of mind or emotions by changing your actions.
Every emotion has an action. Typically the action for anxiety is to either shut down, avoid, or run away. Sadness or depression’s action is hiding away, moping about, sleeping, some people self harm, etc.
The idea is to act the opposite of how you normally would; not to hide your emotions or deny that you’re having them.
First, think of what negative emotion you are currently having, that makes you do things that are unproductive, or even do things that make you feel worse. The example I’ll use is Depression.
Next, pin point what action you are doing because of this emotion. Personally, I sleep or do something self destructive or self sabotaging when I’m depressed.
Now you do the opposite of that action. This gives me a few options. The opposite of sleeping is doing an activity. The opposite of self destructing is self care. And the opposite of self sabotage is self help. So I can do an activity that is self care - taking a bath or shower, doing a face mask, washing my hair, etc. Or i can do an activity that is helping myself - journaling, doing homework, or anything productive that will help me feel better later.
The action that goes along with the emotion is going to be different for everybody, but the goal is to do the opposite of what the negative emotion wants you to do, so that in the end you’ll start to feel less of that emotion.
Note that you can feel sad, depressed, anxious, scared, etc. while you’re doing the productive opposite action! Allow yourself to feel the negative emotion while you’re doing the productive action! It’s okay to feel those things, but hopefully you’ll notice the longer you do them, the better you’ll feel.
It’s science, y’all. Your behaviors communicate to your brain what emotion to feel. It’s the same concept as laughing to feel better. When you do what you’d typically do while you’re feeling good, it’s like telling your brain to feel better, and you’ll find yourself feeling less of the negative emotion.

“this is how you see us, isn’t it?”
I think language does matter to a certain extent because one time my grandpa asked me “So are there a lot of bums where you live?” And I asked him “Do you mean unsheltered people?” and he hasn’t said anything about homeless people around me since
Try hitting someone in your life with the phrase “unhoused people” and see if they shrink back from that insensitive thing they were about to say. It does work on some people.
Also try “state enforced pregnancies” in any “pro-life” debate. That’s what it is.
